Everything about this corporate tyrant is appalling. From their lack-luster speeds, high latency, and peak-hour crashes to their absent technical support and customer service. My roommate and I have lived in this apartment for almost 2 years now. We've had InsightBB for all of it. About 6 months ago, InsightBB made the move to 10MB speeds and it was fantastic! I live in a college town; in fact, one of the biggest colleges in central IL. Even during peak hours, InsightBB was perfect. They never dropped connections and if they did, it was usually not them at all but related to our router/modem.
About a month ago InsightBB was bought out by Comcast and within two days, no joke, only two days, we were on the phone with them. Of course, our bills still said InsightBB so we were oblivious of the buyout. Needless to say, we were a bit dumbfounded by the "Thank you for calling Comcast Technical Support..." we heard on the other end of the phone. We have had nothing but problems since.
Typically during off-peak hours, we have a constant down/up speed. Our ping is fine and we see no problems. Get a few more people up and using their internet and suddenly our speeds rival ISDN and our latency to Chicago residing servers rise to an all time 300+. We're not talking about our inability to download at our max 10MB or trying to upload stuff on some P2P file sharing program. We're talking about playing games such as Counter-Strike: Source, World of Warcraft, and Team Fortress 2; games which require hardly any network traffic at all.
I know complaining will do nothing as Comcast is a huge corporate entity with no plans to stop prior to being accused of a monopoly in the broadband world. I just can't help but feel a little empty. I don't understand, from a customer point of view, how something that was already in place and established as good and working, could go south so incredibly fast with just the change in the name. I miss InsightBB and definitely do not recommend Comcast to anyone.
