Scheduling the install date was no problem. Online Chat to confirm details was nice. ServiceTech was on time and thorough. Big surprise: the Motorola Digital cable boxes are smaller than the voice modem! I'm a little disappointed in the low number of HD channels available in my market, and it's an additional $8 a month for a non-DVR HD box. Nov 2009- I just renewed my soon-to-be expiring triple-play bundle to a new one including no recurring monthly service charges for a HD-DVR upgrade, a 16-2 Ultra HSI upgrade, and an all-inclusive 200 channel video/sports/movie package, plus phone for $159. I picked up my new HD-DVR and D-3 modem at my local Comcast Store, came home and hooked everything up. No internet. I had to call in to have the new modem provisioned, and that took less than 5 minutes. Painless. 31/9 Mbps. The HD-DVR had also had to be authorized and that automatic setup took about 20 minutes. Everything works great. The number of HD channels is steadily improving. I usually try to lower costs where possible, but the benefits here outweighed the slight increase. Had I done nothing and my existing bundle "expired" it would have meant a $72 per month jump, up to the regular cost for the services I was already getting, minus a HD_DVR and Ultra and full sports pack. All has been working great. Price went up a little bit but all in all, it is working great. --- Update 08/10/06 --- Got a cable modem from a friend who went to dsl. Comcast wouldn't let me use the modem because it was still associated with his account. They verified that the other account was inactive. They needed him to call anyways. After disconnecting my line, they fixed that problem. But all was not clear. I returned the modem and they wanted to charge me $100 for the modem anyways. Even after 10 phone calls to open 3 support tickets (2 of which disapeared), a return trip to the local office, and a fax, they disconnected my line. Most of the support people were very nice, except for the person who hung up on me. There is just so much red tape that no one could do anything. I was very annoyed by the "I'll raise the priority on this ticket." How many times do you need to hear this before it becomes a joke? ------- original I moved to a new house that did not qualify for DSL. Already had DirecTV and phone service but went with Comcast Internet/Cable. Setup: $50 to get the lines to my house. I wired up inside the house. Each month: $11 basic cable + $43 computer + $3 modem [Motorola SB5120] . Promotion: first 6 months at $11+20+3/month. The sales force were lacking in the personality, and seemed to provide minimal information. When comparison shopping I asked about the typical install wait times. "It depends when I click the button, could be less then a week, could be a few weeks" - annoying. Installer was on time, quick, nice, knowledgeable. He really could not have been nicer. I had a dish, so he ensured all systems would work well together. I signed up for cable to reduce my monthly expense, but did not intend on hooking up to a TV. He understood and did not press the whole setting up the TV thing. Also ran the cables so you could not seem them outside the house. Very impressed with him. Activation try 1 didn't work. Took me a while to find internet explorer for the macintosh but the thing hung. Activation sales call 1. The tech support on the phone was not helpful. End result: move my computer to the basement with the modem. Best part was him asking me to go to the "start menu" on my Macintosh. He paused and clearly his script did not have anything for the Mac. I couldn't help but laugh. Activation try 2 didn't work. I moved a windows box downstairs and tried to run setup from there only to have it fail in the same spot. Activation sales call 2 - Spoke with a very nice and knowledgeable guy this time. After 2 questions he changed gear to try and work better with my technical level and we were up and running in no time. Turns out their servers were having troubles and I didn't even need to setup the Windows box in the first place. Very annoyed with the first guy All in all it took me 1 week to get a new cable line run to the house and 3 hours to setup. Service is great, using a Motorola SB5100. Network is up and running. The order process was a bit convoluted to say the least. The web portal for Comcast offers provided no link for submitting an order, it only provided an 'order confirmation number'. I called Comcast who then stated I had to order by chat session...the chat session helper then redirected me to a special offers line, where finally after three tries was I able to order my service. Install was good. . .with a Webstar DPC2100r2 modem connection in house, and a Netgear WNR2000 switch to complete the combo. One bad thing was the reconnect fee attached to my bill - I'm a new Comcast customer yet they're trying to charge me for a 'reconnect'. That's $32 I don't owe and will not pay. Please beware of reconnect fees if you are a clean install (new customer). All in all, service has been satisfactory and the special promotion was hard to pass up. Followup comments:

I'm now getting 8Mb down and up to 1.5Mb up after a few quick checks in the evening. Sweet. I'm paying $42.95 for internet, in a bundle with analog TV. Followup comments:

One glitch (minor) after having Comcast HSI for about a month: One night, my cable boxes all had updated messages about an upcoming channel change. Apparently, as a result of that my cable modem got messed up and was not working correctly. I tried a reset (unplug modem, wait about a minute, replug) with no luck. Called Comcast, they ran me through similar "cable modem voodoo" with no success and offered to send a tech out. No thanks. I unplugged the modem for about 20-30 mins and then when I replugged it came back and has been fine ever since. I am still quite happy, overall, with the Comcast HSI. I have had DSL since about May of 2003 from a local provider and, although I was happy with the service, I was wanting faster speeds. My ISP told me that the 768/128 I was getting was the best they could do (I live on the edge of town in a rural area), and there were no plans to upgrade in the future. Comcast has been offering HSI for the past year or two, so I began to investigate Comcast cable Internet. I must admit that, initially, I was pretty sure I was not going to change service providers because of all the negative comments about Comcast that are all over the Internet. However, I spent a couple of weeks searching on various web sites and found at least *some* information that suggested I could get Comcast's service to work. I decided to buy a new Airport base station to replace my original from 2003 and I purchased a Motorola Surfboard SB 5101 Cable Modem (Comcast charges $3.00 a month for rental and I got the SB 5101 for - no kidding - $51.01. I set up a new network with the Comcast HSI so that, if something went wrong during the install (reports I read on the Internet suggested that was a definite possibility), I could still use my DSL to surf the Internet for information. I picked up my "self install" kit on Friday, August 28 and installed the splitter and had everything else ready for the install but the modem did not arrive until late Friday evening so I waited until the next morning to do the install. I connected the modem on Saturday morning and called Comcast with the modem MAC address and serial number. The first person I talked with had trouble getting the modem to be recognized and, when she tried to transfer me, we lost our connection. When i called back, I spoke with an *extremely* helpful and patient rep who was able to get the modem fired up and, when I was not able to connect with my laptop, was able to help me troubleshoot my connection. (It seems that somehow the Proxy settings were changed in my Network System Preferences. Once we turned those off, things worked fine.) I shut down the modem, went out to run an errand, returned a short time later and connected my Airport to the modem and got the wireless network up and running very quickly. I went from download speeds of around 580-700 kbps and uploads around 120 kbps to downloads of 5000+ (I've been over 7000) and uploads in the 2400-2500 range (and have been over 4000). I will pay $19.95 for the first 6 months, $42.95 thereafter. This compares to $44.95 for my DSL (DSL included a modem, Comcast does not). I still think the deal is very good. It is too early to say how reliable the service will be, but thus far I have had no problems. I will try to update this review if I do run into any problems, Thus far, my experience with Comcast has been good. Followup comments:

Hooked it up, called Comcast to activate it, they offered me 3 months at half price, and then I saw Google's logo. I have had zero downtime since then (8 months ago) that I've noticed. And trust me, I'm not joking about that. I've had DSL before, more than once, at different addresses. DSL always would stop, or pause, sometimes. Not with Comast highspeed internet. | »next review in page (previous review) As the provider changed from MediaOne to ATT to Comcast, pricing went up while speed caps went down, reliability went down, customer service slid off the western hemisphere, and my frustration level went up. At this point, I pay for the highest tier: 8800 DL/768 UL. As far as speed goes, I'm nearly as happy as I was nearly a decade ago at nearly twice the original price. Since Comcast is a de facto monopoly here, I have no competitive choice for broadband internet, which certainly colors my opinion - I expect a high level of service since I have no alternative other than dialup. The service goes down rarely, so except when I choose to talk to customer service, I'm pretty happy. Followup comments:

That totals $35.66/month. This deal advertises a rebate for the cable modem. The cable modem rebate requires 2 copies of Comcast bills. The rebate expires 3 months after service starts. You have about a 2 week window to fullfill the rebate. Followup comments:

Comcast finished their analog repos in October and subsequently added about 40 HD channels to our lineup, with more hopefully to come late November or early December. I'm very content with what we get, and this review has been updated to reflect that. Go Comcast! Update 4/20 Comcast is rolling along now with adding HD and analog repos. It took them a few months, but they added 12 HD channels in the past 2 weeks. MLB HD on 4/1, and 11 HD channels on 4/7. Just announced this past Friday, MSNBC and TCM are moving to digital only next month. Consistency is great, more HD expected. We're getting there... Update 12/30 Comcast is doing some analog repos on 1/27, I expect to see new HD channels added after that date. I'll update my review once they do add new HD. However, I do have GREAT news on the internet front. Comcast never ceases to amaze me. They've bumped my speeds finally to 12/2, and Docsis 3.0 is available. Now, to only convince my father to let us upgrade to the Ultra tier.... Update 12/7 Can you believe it? Still only 26 HD channels. Comcast can shove it for all I care, Verizon bumped up Woodbridge for the FiOS roll out from 2010 to mid next year so I'm jumping ship and will be paying the ETF when FiOS is available on my block. It's the 21st century Comcast, not the mid 1900's! They've failed to step up to the plate, and I'm reflecting my review to show that. Fast forward to August 26th. We still only have 26 HD channels with none coming on the horizon. What gives? Comcast sucks. The triple play is great and all, but they suck when it comes to HD service (of which I have 2 HDTVs). Changing my review to reflect that. Edit 2/16/08: Comcast Technician came out to diagnose VoD problem. Checked out the work that the contractor had done, said it was crap and he was going to report the contractor to his supervisor. Tech will come back tomorrow to run a 2nd dedicated line into our house to fix the problem. Edit 2/5/2008: Alright! Install went great, the tech was REALLY nice. He gave me a free amp and installed it along with rewiring a certain area by the splitters. I gave the tech free reign in where to put the eMTA and wiring, he really enjoyed that. Put it and made sure the wiring was clean and neat. Got everything on the CDV end working within 1 hour or so (the people on the phone were taking forever to pick up to activate everything). The internet was a different story. For some reason they put my modem into a walled garden mode. He couldn't figure it out why it wasn't working (didn't know then it was getting the walled garden config file). Put in a service ticket for someone to come tomorrow. Later I went into the logs of the modem and saw the wrong config file, called Comcast. had them remove the modem, add it back and send the right config file. All fixed All in all so far everything is great. I get all my channels that I'm supposed to, CDV voice quality is just as good, if not better than Verizon POTS. Internet works just as it was before. Amplifier works great. A++ for Comcast. I think I'm going to be staying with them for a while now... ______________ Had no other choice besides satellite broadband, too expensive for that. Have 6/384 for $42.95 with PowerBoost, Self Install Kit from Best Buy (free modem!) Have a SB5120 that I am noticing is faltering a bit. Maybe have to replace it soon. Comcast tech support really nice, have helped me a lot when I needed it. Current stuff I have with them: HSI Performance Tier, Digital Preferred Cable, 2 STB's (1 HD, 1 SD). Ordered Zee TV at $12.95/mth Total cost per month comes to something like $148.xx after all the fees and stuff. Had Comcast come out and replace the splitter at the pole for digital cable problems, noticed my internet speeds have SKYROCKETED. Now getting full PB (12mb down, 1.5.mb up), awesome and stable internet connection. Modem has also righted itself somehow. Totally worth it. Go for it if you have the choice! Edit: I will be getting the Triple Play on Thursday if Comcast can port my number over from Verizon. Otherwise I'll switch to a double play and Verizon Freedom Essentials. Will post back Tuesday or Wednesday updating phone porting situation. Oh yeah forgot to add Comcast bumped us up to either 6000/768 or 6000/1000 for the performance tier. Followup comments:
