$40 per month
"Check out other ISP's"

For those of you that live in Southern Radcliff and some of Vine Grove...there is another option and it is to check and see if you can get wireless service from kvnet.org. I've seen the service at Haynes Greenhouse in Vine Grove KY and it seems pretty fast. Advertised speed is 900k/128k for $40 a month. $25 less then Brandenburg Tele!

BBTel finally expanded DSL service into portions of my neighborhood at the beginning of the year. This was done by adding a remote terminal to one of the poles. Time to live was only one day. Service tech arrived on time, installed a filter out at the NID and then changed out the outlet by the machine to a two jack outlet. Installed modem is a Westell 2000 (non-router model). Only problem was that the remote terminal on the pole was not powered up initially due to a bad pair of wires. Tech quickly fixed the problem and the modem synced up quickly. Advertised speeds are 768/768 SDSL. While SDSL is good for servers and gameplay, many people would be better served with plain ADSL with faster download speeds. Speedtests from the broadbandreports.com yield 650/550.

Pricing is set at $65.95 per month. Installation fee is $139.00. However, if you sign on for a one year contract, this fee is waived. Pricing is quite expensive for this type of service. However, this is the only broadband option in the neighborhood at this time. Insight has not installed cable in here yet, however, if they do, many people will go with them as they have higher speeds and cheaper prices.

So far, the equiptment is good. Being a previous Bell South customer, I had the Westell 2100 series model with the integrated router. With the supplied Westel 2000 with this installation, a seperate router is necessary to provide security...along with a software firewall.

Update 1/13/2005: Have done some other speedtesting and discovered that the advertised speed is good. Downloading large files ex. Linux distos and MS updates download around 750K or about 75-76 Kb/sec. Service continues to be rock solid. BBTel has now sent out a letter to other neighbors letting them know that the service is now available.

Brandenburg Telephone Company's DSL service is absolutely terrible. It's down quite often and you can never get a straight answer from the employees or tech support when asking any sort of question concerning their terrible product.

I was trying to find Brandenburg's website through Google and found this website. I noticed an article by Bill Wolfe, of the Courier-Journal praising their business. I joined this website for the sole purpose of writing a review of their cable TV service to refute Mr. Wolfe's assessment.

This is, by FAR, the WORST service I have ever tried to watch. The cable TV has now been down 25 minutes; the blurb on the screen says; "No Signal - Check Network Connection (4611) please call your service provider."

This service goes down 20-30 times per day. Granted most of the time it is only for 1-2 minutes BUT the audio is totally broken up and the screen looks as if a demented mosaic artist took a really bad 'trip' and created a tile picture of an explosion at a paint plant.

BUT, it goes down 2-5 times per day for at least ten minutes and sometimes for over a half hour. I JUST PASSED THE 35 MINUTE MARK.

If you call them (and get thru) they take your complaint and tell you that they will get back to you. They don't. AND, the service does not improve.

One would think perhaps they should stick to telephone service (if they can manage it.)

I'm seriously thinking of making a protest sign and walking up and down the sidewalk in front of the office until they acknowledge their problem. If you are 'listening' Brandenburg, you should seriously consider giving everyone at least a 5% rebate check every month since your service is down at least that much every day.

    Pricing the Dish in Etown.

p.s., now down 50 minutes and counting.

I have had this service for far too long. The only good thing that I can say about them is the upload speed is higher than what most people have to offer. The bad, well, where do I begin? First, the tech support is non existant, they rarely answer emails. They dont seem to answer mine AT ALL anymore, I assume due to the fact that I've proved them wrong on several occaisions. Their "tech support" guy or whoever he is named Kelley Mattingly is a total moron. I get crappy connections about once a month where packets get almost constantly dropped, which they try to blame on me (this is one point where I prove them wrong with trace route results). I have constant problems with DNS. Some sites will work, others wont. To sum it all up, you don't get anything near what you pay for. Stay away. I can't wait till Comcast rolls out cable internet in my area, it HAS to be better than this crud.

I couldn't agree with you more. They totally ignore my e-mails and I've even had them "hang-up" on me when on the phone. I've been nice and calm with them far too long.

Avoid BBTel's DSL at all costs.

It is by far the worst service I have used.

The only good thing is that it's available across the county and it's 768k up and down.

    The bad:

The connection is interrupted if the phone rings for example.

Latency randomly comes and goes, with ping times reaching 600-800 ms just to the gateway, which makes it totally unusable for gaming or doing anything remotely. Even web browsing is affected.

And don't even waste your time trying to get it fixed - they won't help.

Go with cable - more reliable and cheaper too.

I have had DSL service from BBTel since it was available about a year and a half ago. It has only went down once, for about 2 hours. I can not complain about that, I've had my Dial up account go down for more than that time. I am about a mile from the Telco, so my speed is really good. They state 768k, thats for both ways TOTAL, but I constanly see DL speed at 70-80K, while my upload goes to about 50K. All in all not a bad deal, but their techs really suck, at least they did when I first ordered my service, of course I knew more than they did.

    8/01/03

Well I dumped BBTel over a year ago, I went to InsightBB. With speeds of 3meg down and 128k up, and the price of 35 bucks a month, it was a no brainer to switch from BBTels 768k line for 70 bucks a month, BBTel has only raised their price, but not their service. It is true they interact directly with you, with personal service from the head tech guy, but that doesnt mean anything for the price, at least to me. Unless BBTel lowers their price and up their service, Ill never go back.

    My Other Reviews·Beasley Wireless
7/01/02 Update: A few small problems, but I have to admit; they have been VERY consistent, I have to think that any connectivity problem has to be the upstream; the equipment is stable, and overall, aside from some disagreement with the Head Guru, I love the service. I had sworn I was going to jump on cable the moment it got here, but now i'm rethinking.

3/02/02 update: about half the time these days I can't even get to hotmail; DSLREPORTS tools (»/quality/nil/688554) shows that the west coast machines are not even reachable. They have also implemented caching. Only game in town, so I'm suffering along until they aren't.

8/17/01 update: They have had consistent problems with bandwidth lately; download still isn't bad, about 256k, but upload is somewhere ranging from 8kbps to 80kbps which really sucks. Looking for other options.

I was really shocked when I moved to this area about 11 months ago to find DSL service; it's a very small pop area. apparently they purchased a off-the-rack solution from Paradyne, using the MVL HOT series. I consistantly get 600K or better download, and 300-384k(384k being max) on upload.

Install was kinda bad, because they insisted on sending people out, when all they really needed to do was get me the modem.

There is a little static even when using the 3 provided filters, but who cares? The IP is static, and up until recently they haven't given me any trouble over running a DNS server on my DSL line.

I think they are going to start seriously curtailing user activity, they seem very paranoid about liability, but for your average user, this is a fantastic deal.

I've had bbtel dsl service for over a year now. I am very happy
with my service. The line is very stable and I average a down speed of
about 550-600 kbs. I pay $70/month for my service with a one time $139
setup fee for modem and install. I think they sometimes now offer to
wave $139 fee with one year contract. They also supply dsl users 20
    hours/month of free dial-up service. Any time I've had a question I
have gotten immediate service. it took about 2-3 for the installation
from the time I called, had to have someone home to let tech in, so it
took a extra day. I would recommend bbtel to anybody who lives in the
    service area.
To summarize, the only things I would change are: Lower price to
the $35-$50/month range and I wish my line was faster as I live only
4/10th of a mile from central office. Bbtel should also offer a
discount on modem to home users who do self install. Overall I have
been very happy and bbtel deserves a round of applause for being forward
thinking enough to even offer dsl in b.f. Kentucky.

Horrible cable service and customer service

BBTC is HORRIBLE!! My cable has gone out daily for months with no resovle. I have been very patient working to correct this and now I've had it!!!! I call them daily and I am told to turn it off, then back on to reboot. I'm so tired of hearing REBOOT! It doesn't work and I am being ignored about how bad it is. I did without service in July for 3 weeks. Yes, 3 weeks with no TV and they would not refund me. They keep telling me it is corrected and it happens again and again. One of their techs told me to tell them I deserve a refund on my last bill because it was down 2 more weeks. They refused! I am discontinuing my cable service, but I'm upset that I have to keep my phone service. Why in 2007 in the city of Radcliff can't we choose our phone carrier? I have been treated so poorly by them I do not want to give them any more of my money for any service. I do not want any service from BBTC.
