I was with a company for phone service that FDN Communications purchased it has been so long ago that I don't remember the company name. Anyway Nuvox purchased FDN Communications and for years I had a complete package for $35.00 a month then it went up $10.00 and in the past year it went up to $67.00 a month. Before I moved into this new location I had all new phones lines installed for the new technology.

A couple of months ago every time it rained one voice line would go out and a fax line would go out. I called them 3 different times and they would call bellsouth to come out and check the lines that was a very bad customer service experience 2 of 3 times and the third time the bellsouth guy said it was a short inside and then a couple of days later the phone lines started working by themselves. He was wrong and I feel like each time the trouble ticket was treated with band aids.

The fourth time I did not call them I transferred the lines to 2 different companies and the phones both still give busy signals. So that tells me that it is not a phone line problem it is something that their servers caused.

About two years ago, our SMB got its first PRI-T1 for voice/data, with a 10K minute bucket for voice. We had USLEC, Nuvox and FDN in competition. USLEC couldn't justify its egregious pricing at the time (three times FDN or Nuvox, with excessive and non-optional bundling of unnecessary services), and FDN had too many complaints from local techs I know. We decided to try Nuvox.

We have experienced some short downtimes of about 5-10 minutes about three times over our time with them on voice and data. Service has always been pretty good, except they lack 100% follow-through. It's touch and go if you get a final "all is well" from them. On the plus side, every ticket is backed by a survey that allows feedback. (Companies that never ask how well they did for you shows that they don't *really* care about service.)

The key question: Knowing what I know now, would I do it again? Yes.

"Much cheaper than AT&T, formerly Bellsouth."
"Could be more thorough on trouble ticket resolution, reporting back to the customer."
"Received advertised service at expected times, Data and VoIP services are very configurable and stable."

We moved from an integrated PRI with Bellsouth/AT&T to a Nuvox PRI during a location move. They were about 60% the cost of AT&T. After 2 months of service, we haven't had a single outage- it's been rock solid.

I'm impressed with the added options and tracking information on each DID, as well as the Nuvox provided QoS integrated VoIP/Data router.

I had a few typical trouble tickets so far, 2 of the numbers ported over were typo'd and ported incorrectly, as well AT&T didn't remove us properly from their network so it took a day or so before the AT&T network could provision and reach us. I also put in a ticket to add 30 DIDs. All the tickets were resolved quickly and I got my DIDs in 3 days time, the only thing was, I never got any follow up calls to let me know they were ready so I had to call-in to confirm the ticket was completed.

I have already recommended them to several businesses locally , and will continue to do so- Nuvox has provided nothing less than what is an expected service level for a business critical solution.

If you're considering the move, I say DO IT.

This review is an initial review, as our service just went live yesterday July 14 08.
So far Nuvox has done a fine job, the cut-over from the old provider to Nuvox was fast and smooth. Everything worked!

The only downside is speeds on the internet side seem slower, with download actually slower than upload, both under 1MB. We were forced to move to a new provider as Sprint Broadband Direct will not be available after July 31 08.

We have a T-1 combo package, and so far tech support has been very good.

I'll update this review once we have been live for a couple months.

I've been running around and around with Nuvox down in our Miami facility. We switched over to them a few months ago. We requested 3.0 Mbit business DSL for our two PCs in that office. Presumably, they did a line test and verified that the speed was possible. We moved forward and signed up on their say-so.

Since signing up, we have had continual disconnection problems. No data could get through on a regular basis.

Tech support was contacted repeatedly. Each time I had to re-explain the problem. They would often say "looking into it" and never get back to me. I finally contacted the salesman that sold us the service and suggested he get his act together.

Tech support finally called me back, evidently without reading the trouble tickets and essentially asking "I hear you're having trouble". The poor tech guy that called me got an earful from me. I was not in the mood to re-explain to a tech who didn't do his homework.

Their diagnosis of the problem was that the 3Mb DSL connection was unstable due to the distance from our office to the CO. (19,000 ft) They would have to downgrade us to get the stability but weren't sure. I asked if they could confirm this would fix the problem and call me back.

    They didn't.

I called the salesperson and mentioned that the possible solution that was told to me was to downgrade to 1.5Mb DSL. He tried to sell me a T1.

We've had more disconnections than connections over the past few months. They finally got our 'downgrade' to 1.5Mb completed and still problems exist.

We'll be dropping them like a bad habit once we have a replacement provider identified. Bell South and Verizon are too expensive.

i feel for you! you got sold a FDN service that Nuvox picked up after their merger in 2007. The rep should have done a "loop qualification" test on your address to check distance limitations. I worked for them in the past...ok company but have lots of issues with that product. A T1 is your best bet. Try Deltacom instead & good luck...

Install kit didn't cite the required subnet mask or IPs to use for gateway, etc. Some of these were derived by trial and error because there was no Saturday (Sunday?) night installation tech available.

Download speed on T-1 seems slow, but could be the Net. I routinely see 700 kbps which is well below the rated T-1 speed.

I need to run some more tests before being certain.

Value for money:

NuVox Communications, which has since the update of this listing, moved to Greenville, South Carolina, is the best ISP I had ever used. Their dial-up package was such a great value. At the time that I had NuVox as my ISP, I was in an area where DSL and Cable were not available. I had a dedicated phone line for dial-up internet and stayed connected to them for days on end. My top connection time was 7 days fully connected with no problems (which, if you're unaware, is almost amazingly unreal for dial-up users). I only had one outage with NuVox, which was after a large ice storm that knocked-out the telephone service in the metro Greenville area, so their dialup services were unreachable from my home. They have competant, friendly staff that are always willing to help you with your issues. I recommend this for anyone who has or wants the internet. There is no better dial-up value.
