Here at South Beach we have pretty much 2 choices DSL from any company , or the cable from atlantic broadband. I had before 8mbit DSL service from pretty decent ISP but the wiring here its so old , so terrible si the MAX i got was around 5mbit in the best case. So when i heard that Atlantic offering 12mbit i was surprised but still kind a worried. I tried before their 3mbit and it was HORRIBLE. So when i call to order it i had mixed feelings. But after few days with their service i loved it. Its fas as they said reliable and no problems at all so far. I got deal 12mbit+landline phone for 49.99$ so its even better. A few friends of mine got the same service as me and all of them feel good about it.
So far so good.

I had ABB as the ISP since 2003. It is the worst ISP you can probably find nationwide. The only reason kept me with them is because of the monopoly that cable companies have over the locations. Unfortunately the new place I moved into recently also serviced by ABB. I wished the location I live was taken over by COMCAST or at least I had option to switch to Comcast, as I would not hesitate to do so.
There is bunch of thieves that own this company and bunch other thieves sitting in the city comission that paid by the first thieves to establish monopoly.
The speed is horrible and was horrible for the last 4 years I had this service. Recently they were happy to annouce 8MB speed "upgrade", first ensuring that they upgraded the service fee by $1. The good speed lasted only 7-10 days averaging to 5MB of download, instead of 8MB, the only upload was close to the promised of 500KB.
Right now, today, 02/05/2008 the speakeasy.net/speedtest shows between 150-200kb of download. Isn't ridicilous? I hope one day the rear end of the folks who own the company and city comissioners who ignore the poor service that this company delivers will get fried.
If you have any other options do not choose ABB!!!!

| Miami speeds Did you call tech support about the speed issue? They will fix that problem. Also, Miami has an offer for the MAX HSI service (now 12Mb); it's only $35.95/month for 3 months if you sign up before Feb 15 and is good for any Atlantic Broadband customer. | |

Started out when they first came out with high speed internet here in Johnstown, Beta tested when it was Roadrunner, then Charter and Now called Atlantic Broadband. I myself have the top of the line service they offer just for the internet which is a 5meg down and a 512k up.
host (atlanticbb.net):::.. Service is still great with them for the internet part of it.
Now i have switched my phone service over to them also. and so far so good. No echo's, Line Noise or anything like i was getting with the other VOIP providers out there, fax work 100% as well as my dish network recievers.

"bandwidth shaping .. torrents kill everything"
"need to switch"
| |
I have been a customer of ABB for over a year. At the beginning I thought it was just a problem with my connection but now i have nailed it down. Whenever I start downloading torrents my bandwidth gets throttled to the point that I can't do anything. If I stop all of the torrents after a while the connection comes back. This to me is insane. I use torrents to download large files like VM images from vmware.
Now I am looking to switch to DSL. Anybody have any good recommendations on the beach. I cannot stand an ISP that does traffic shaping

I moved from Verizon DSL after they price gouged me (And coincidentally, I dropped my old land line afterwards) - And I have to say, for the price - It's WELL worth it. Only had 2 drops in the almost 6 months that I've had it (And once was when the guys were connecting someone else's apartment, I live in a building).
I ordered the 3000 down/384 up package, I average 3200 down and 304 up - For $32 listed (Plus taxes); it's good enough for me. Vonage has NO problem, even with the lackluster upload speed, but more would be nice. The installer was GREAT - Even stayed long enough to walk me through setting up my email; even connected the router to the modem (I knew how, but it's still a nice touch). The Motorola cable modem is alright, just like any other modem - But I miss having a power switch.
The customer service is EXCELLENT - Only called them two times (As mentioned) - The one problem was solved rather easily - They restarted the modem from the office, and it took all of 2 minutes.
I'm glad I went with them; best thing I EVER did (Their TV is pretty darn good, too).

See the previous post from ABALDISH. I have had broadband since it was first offered by Charter 6-7 years ago. Price has doubled, even though I made no changes in service. Verizon DSL not available to me, yet. AtlanticBB took over from Charter several years ago and nothing has changed other than who gets paid and my email address.
Speed is good and have never had a down moment - have had to call TS a couple of time. Problems remedied in short order. Bought my own Motorola Surfboard modem rather than pay rent on theirs.

Sales Reps info was later shown to be completely accurate. No nasty surprises after signing up. Installer was prompt and knowledgeable. Installation went smoother than I had expected. I have the bundle (cable, internet, phone), which costs, including taxes $106.00 per month. Tech support over the phone is great although you must get to tech support because customer service in general is not very knowledgeable. Am happy with the bundle. Jim

Being a network engineer myself, I can usually relate to issues and problems, and understand that not all issues may be resolved immediately.
In this case, however, thorough care was taken to make sure the service that was fading in and out would not be fading back in.
3 appointments later, the company and their techs still cannot follow the simplest instructions when it comes to reading scheduling and contact information. They systematically call the wrong number. And they don't understand that the system needs to be looked at at the time it's off. Not when it's convenient for the techs.
Maybe the work orders are written in a foreign language?
Once on-site, they disappear again without mention of when they would reappear. They leave connections and cables in disarray, for you to guess on what might hapen next.
Trying to get any help from the office staff on the phone appears useless, since no communication seems to trickle down to the actual techs. (are they even listening?)
Finally they make appointments without telling you about it. Nice idea, but it does not help since they need access to the premises.
In short, don't waste your time. Never mind the money.

I moved from Dallas, TX to Miami Beach, FL in June 2006, and was trying to order Comcast when I found out that I can only get Atlantic Broadband in my area for Cable modem service. Since I was used to Comcast and the great service and speed I was getting in Dallas I decided to get Cable Internet Service. Twenty four hours after they turned me on the service was down. The service then was fine but it gets very slow at times, and it goes down once in a while. In the 7 months that I've been here it has gone down about 5 times, which to me is poor service. I had Comcast for years and it almost never went down.
I have also called for strange problems and they blamed my computer settings: I was not able to get to weather.com for 4 days and finally after troubleshooting the problem myself found that I had to turn my MTU for my router down to 600 for me to get to the website, I called them to tell them there is a Black Hole Router somewhere and they told me not to mess with my MTU, I switched my modem out and still the same problem, on all my computers. Fortunately after a few hours of phone calls I got a hold of someone out of the Pennsylvania network center that knew what I was talking about and they said they would look into it but since I was the only one with the problem they could not give it priority. The problem has fixed itself but I have very little confidence in the service. The tech support guys here in Miami Beach are absolutely terrible, but at least the guys up in Pennsylvania seem to try.
I am realizing that if I'm the only one with a certain problem down here then very few people in my neighborhood or close area must be using Atlantic Broadband.
I'm waiting for other options to become available but for now Im stuck with them.

It seems that Atlantic Broadband is slowing down lately. Has anybody had any experiences like mine? I have the fastest connection and sometimes it seems that it is painfullly slow. Please advise,

am a techie, so I never call support. So far, I have been always able to solve any problems at my end. Usually, unplugging the modem, wating 15 seconds or so and then plugging the power back has solved any problems I may have had which are few and far between. All installer had to do was to set a splitter on the cable and 1 cable went to the modem and the other went to the TV tuner in my computer. After Hurricane Wilma I had cable TV and Internet within 24 hours of the power coming back ( I had no power for almost 3 weeks) I have the fastest speed and while I will always complain about the price, just as a matter of principle, I have no complaints about the service. Modem is hooked to wireless router and my wife uses her laptop with no problem. Motorola modem is rented from Atlantic Broadband.
