I had ABB as the ISP since 2003. It is the worst ISP you can probably find nationwide. The only reason kept me with them is because of the monopoly that cable companies have over the locations. Unfortunately the new place I moved into recently also serviced by ABB. I wished the location I live was taken over by COMCAST or at least I had option to switch to Comcast, as I would not hesitate to do so.
There is bunch of thieves that own this company and bunch other thieves sitting in the city comission that paid by the first thieves to establish monopoly.
The speed is horrible and was horrible for the last 4 years I had this service. Recently they were happy to annouce 8MB speed "upgrade", first ensuring that they upgraded the service fee by $1. The good speed lasted only 7-10 days averaging to 5MB of download, instead of 8MB, the only upload was close to the promised of 500KB.
Right now, today, 02/05/2008 the speakeasy.net/speedtest shows between 150-200kb of download. Isn't ridicilous? I hope one day the rear end of the folks who own the company and city comissioners who ignore the poor service that this company delivers will get fried.
If you have any other options do not choose ABB!!!!

| Miami speeds Did you call tech support about the speed issue? They will fix that problem. Also, Miami has an offer for the MAX HSI service (now 12Mb); it's only $35.95/month for 3 months if you sign up before Feb 15 and is good for any Atlantic Broadband customer. | |

Being a network engineer myself, I can usually relate to issues and problems, and understand that not all issues may be resolved immediately.
In this case, however, thorough care was taken to make sure the service that was fading in and out would not be fading back in.
3 appointments later, the company and their techs still cannot follow the simplest instructions when it comes to reading scheduling and contact information. They systematically call the wrong number. And they don't understand that the system needs to be looked at at the time it's off. Not when it's convenient for the techs.
Maybe the work orders are written in a foreign language?
Once on-site, they disappear again without mention of when they would reappear. They leave connections and cables in disarray, for you to guess on what might hapen next.
Trying to get any help from the office staff on the phone appears useless, since no communication seems to trickle down to the actual techs. (are they even listening?)
Finally they make appointments without telling you about it. Nice idea, but it does not help since they need access to the premises.
In short, don't waste your time. Never mind the money.

I moved from Dallas, TX to Miami Beach, FL in June 2006, and was trying to order Comcast when I found out that I can only get Atlantic Broadband in my area for Cable modem service. Since I was used to Comcast and the great service and speed I was getting in Dallas I decided to get Cable Internet Service. Twenty four hours after they turned me on the service was down. The service then was fine but it gets very slow at times, and it goes down once in a while. In the 7 months that I've been here it has gone down about 5 times, which to me is poor service. I had Comcast for years and it almost never went down.
I have also called for strange problems and they blamed my computer settings: I was not able to get to weather.com for 4 days and finally after troubleshooting the problem myself found that I had to turn my MTU for my router down to 600 for me to get to the website, I called them to tell them there is a Black Hole Router somewhere and they told me not to mess with my MTU, I switched my modem out and still the same problem, on all my computers. Fortunately after a few hours of phone calls I got a hold of someone out of the Pennsylvania network center that knew what I was talking about and they said they would look into it but since I was the only one with the problem they could not give it priority. The problem has fixed itself but I have very little confidence in the service. The tech support guys here in Miami Beach are absolutely terrible, but at least the guys up in Pennsylvania seem to try.
I am realizing that if I'm the only one with a certain problem down here then very few people in my neighborhood or close area must be using Atlantic Broadband.
I'm waiting for other options to become available but for now Im stuck with them.

When I first got ABB, everything was okay, after a few months the online gaming sucked 50 - 98% packet loss, slow slow connections, even with the 5 Meg it sucks, done speed tests on multiple sites, they all came up any where from 1120 - 2100 mbit/ps, called tech several times, no solution has been made yet

Atlantic Broadband is overpriced, but the service is reliable. The few calls to customer service have been horrible, with conflicting responses from each Customer Serice Representative I speak to.
INTERNET: After a horrible year of fluctuating speeds (the issues were with their AT&T backbone connection, not local issue), things have been great for the last couple of months.
TV SERVICES: Limited options, overpromoting HD-DVR service with no equipment availability, and over priced. I don't forsee things improving quickly, because there is no competition, in an urban area where many customers can't get Satellite due to obstructed southern views.

For years we had no broadband options in Middletown. Now we finally have the option of internet via the local cable outfit, Atlantic Broadband. Problem is it's not a good service. I subscribed to the top level service which was advertised as 5/512. Never achieved better than 1.8/350. And for this I was charged $65 a month. In my first month of service I enjoyed a 1 week outtage. First service call available was 2 weeks out. After a month of this service I cancelled and got Fios. Now I pay $45 for 15/2. Couldn't be happier now.

| completely agree horrible is an undestatement for the costumer service, in particular the internet people. They don't really help or want to help because it is your computer and not the ISP, everything is always fine on their end. I will go back to Bellsouth as soon I can, because they at least have nice outsourced costumer support. | |

| Agree Atlantic BB in Miami Beach Lacking The service is terrible and the uptime is worse. For someone who relies on a stable constant connection to work from home, I cannot rely on this service. Outtages are frequent. There is little the guys on the phone can do from PA when the local techs pretty much do nothing (I have got shoulder shrugs and someone else will have to fix). DSL is the only other choice even though BellSouth only offers 1.5MB in Miami Beach.
I would stay away. | |
