I noticed immediately on HD that the picture quality wasn't comparable to my DirecTV HD picture. The picture was several shades darker and I noticed that in darker areas of the picture, the entire detail was lost into a black blob. I'm not a picky audiophile or anything but this was noticeable enough that both my partner and I could see it. Also I had been waiting for AT&T to resolve the audio drops with Dolby Digital but I noticed that I had that problem when hooked up via HDMI. All that in mind, I unhooked the TV boxes on Sunday and cancelled the TV portion. I kept the internet. I have the Max12. It's the same price as Comcast for a similar package but it doesn't have a modem rental fee which is now $5 from Comcast. So I don't have power boost, but I'm saving $5/month. The speed is fast enough for me without power boost. I also like the fact that with AT&T the modem/router is all in one package. This cleaned up my network area a little bit by not having an additional item. One more note about the TV. The SD picture quality is the best I have ever seen. On cable or satellite. It was crystal clear. Also the user interface was excellent. I think it's one of the best I've ever seen. Overall I think Uverse has the capability of being an awesome product. Once they work out the HD issues, they'll have a great product on their hands. My gateway syncs at about 60mpbs so I think with pair bonding, there really will be no lack of bandwidth available for the foreseeable future. Followup comments:

After Install: I have had ATT U-Verse for TV and high speed internet for about 2 months.. I have the 6MB down plan along with UV400 TV plan. I was given a discount rate for 12 months on the TV My complaint about the sales staff is their insistence that WEP is a safe security encryption, when in fact WEP encryption was broken a few years ago. The install went smoothly and took only 3 hours, when they had estimated 6. I have 2 complaints on installation. The installer refused to hard wire one of the computers insisting all computers needed to be wireless and he also refused to set the RG to WPA mode and would not let me change it while he was there. When he left, TV was sharp and clear and my internet speed was great. After setting up one computer with a hard wire connection myself and changing the encryption to WPA, I noticed a distinct drop in speeds to less than 1MB down. After tinkering with some settings I get good speed most of the time, but have a high rate of disconnects that I never had with straight ATT DSL. Overall, I'm happy with the service and happier that the monthly bill has gone down for TV and internet combined has gone down. Followup comments:

| »next review in page (previous review) I am getting around 17.3 megabits down and 1.5 up (on the 18/1.5 package). The upload is pretty pathetic for VDSL considering in Japan I had 100/100 through VDSL. I switched as I believe they would be offering 24/2 soon which hasn't happened due to the 32/5 profile being rolled back and because of the fact my DSL lines deteriorated causing constant reboots and eventual lost of sync. My biggest complaint with u-verse is the interleaving. My line supports up to 55 meg down so I don't even see why it has to be enabled or for everyone at this point. I get 25ms latency to my server in Los Angeles when I got 7-8 with DSL Extreme. My pings are generally 20ms higher everywhere with u-verse than when I had DSL Extreme. I am really hoping that I can get DSL Extreme installed now that I already have u-verse up and running or if AT&T is going to block the order like they did when I had DSL Extreme and couldn't get u-verse. We shall see! Followup comments:

| »next review in page (previous review) My AT&T sales associate told me that I would have a 20Mb up and 20Mb down connection speed. I was using Cox Cable's cable modem connection and getting an average connection of 1.4 Mb connection speed down and .4 Mb upload speed average. So a jump to 20 Mb both up and down would be fantastic. I was told this would be a fiber optic connection to the Ped then on 2 wire copper to the house at 823 ft of new copper as this was a new addition with all new wire and the Ped was about 8 months old with direct ties into the buried fiber optic lines, the only slow down would be the cap that AT&T placed into the modem. After the install was completed (5 hours) I began testing the speed of connection and was only achieving a .35Mb connection. I contacted customer support and verified I was listed for the 20Mb connection package (I was), then was transferred to tech support to have the modem uncapped and reset with the new correct cap for 20Mb connection speed. The system was then rebooted several times by them through the network and then by me via direct disconnection from the wall a/c supply as directed by tech support. After approximately 2 hours with customer service and tech support.. I was advised by tech support that I had one of the best connections they had ever seen with idea connection to the modem with the best s/n rates (signal to noise) and the best power db (decibels of signal) rates. And every thing was updated and correct with a 20Mb connection. I then went online and tested my connection speed to servers 183 miles away in Dallas TX (this normally gives me the fastest test speeds) along with servers in LA CA, ATL GA, NJ NJ, CHI IL, the fastest of witch gave me a speed rating of .2Mb (megabits). This connection was solid both up and down with a latency average of 82ms (with Cox Cable my average latency was 17ms). As a Data Base consultant and maintenance professional the latency does not affect me as much as it would a gamer. I then spent more than an hour on the phone again with tech support and customer service to get this situation corrected. Knowing that a majority of customers have not been programming computers for over 25 years (from the days when we used punch cards to program systems) and would not know what a true Mb was and not contest the false advertisements of speed being lost in a grammatical translation of industry standards. Luckily I had not canceled my Cox Cable account, and have years of experience making connections and was able to remove the filters in the 75 ohm cabling that AT&T had placed at every connection, and reconnected my Cox Cable system and was instantly back to my 1.4Mb connection with .4 Mb upload and a 17ms latency rating. My AT&T U-Verse experience lasted about 18 hours, and was a horrid nightmare of lies and deception. I would advise anyone in the Oklahoma City area who is considering a high speed connection to the internet to steer clear of the lies and deception of AT&T's U-Verse and their sales associates, who honestly are sales people not computer tech people and probably are just saying whatever they have been told to say or are reading on the screen in front of them. AT&T does offer a "faster than dial up connection" in this area, but with the cost of service, it is truly a joke and does not qualify as a "high speed connection" by todayâs standards and the market availability in the Oklahoma City, OK area. If you are a fan of AT&T, good for you little buddy! In your area, it may be the best connection available. Here in Oklahoma City AT&T is trying to get one over on its customers. And they will defend it to the death, bashing anyone who gives them a bad review. It's funny how a few people get offended about a bad post about their company, almost as if it effects their personal income to have other customers seeing what is really going on in a given area. Then they compare it to ??? . This review was written for the AT&T U-Verse in Oklahoma City, OK. 07/03/2009 Tried to order UVerse online to take advantage of $200 cash back deal they were having. When the order was almost placed, the system gave me an error saying because I had service through AT&T I had to have that disconnected first then order UVerse. So I called AT&T and talked to a very nice guy to help me getting the order through. First we had to schedule a disconnect on my Dry Loop DSL and then we finished the order process for UVerse. Because I had problems ordering the package online, the nice guy on the phone game me an additional $50 cash back! So now that made it $250 cash back in total (after 30 days and 4-5 weeks after registering for it). 07/07/2009 My Dry Loop DSL has been disconnected 07/08/2009 First I received a phone call 30 minutes before the tech showed up. He came initially letting me know of the package I've ordered and that he needed to connect my house line to the new VRAD. We also went through the house config and showed him where the TV's were setup. For the most part, since I already had DSL and VOIP, I had modified the NID on the back of the house to run the DSL line into a wall plug and then routed the phone line out from the VOIP back to the NID as a loop. Because I had everything central in my basement, he decided to just use the same spot to put the RG (Residential Gateway). I was a little concerned that my distance from the VRAD would be over 3,000 ft. Well, after he found the box made the connect and came back to continue the install, I asked for the distance, and he said 2,200 ft which got me the GREAT Service to the VRAD! Once the RG was plugged in and running (Took about 15 minutes) he got my laptop online and I finished the registration needed to continue getting outside internet. Once the registration was complete, he hooked the first DVR STB up and ran the update needed to continue. Once that was done, he made sure all channels were coming in good quality picture. He then repeated the process for upstairs in the MBR. This was just a Standard STB but he again made sure the picture quality was good and that the Total HomeDVR Function was working. Total time it took from him showing up to being done was about 3.5 hrs. I've never had a problem with my old DSL line going out event during power outages (I Have a Battery Backup on the Modem). So I'm expecting the same kind of QOS for my UVerse's Internet. I know the TV's won't work unless I had battery backup on them, which do NOT plan too anytime soon. I know it's only been 1.5 days since I've had it installed but so far everything has been working great! Really like the option to play recorded shows on any other TV connected through the UVerse setup. Now I'm just crossing my fingers to have 3HD Streams if not 4HD Streams by year end! 07/27/2009 Well, received the Rebate Rewards flyer in the mail. Went to register my Cash back rewards and was told that I was only getting $150 back instead of the original $250 back. So after talking to the Rewards CS and then contacting the Main CS I was able to get $150 cash back and another $100 visa cash-card. I had no problem telling both Call Centers what the problem was and both Associates were really friendly and willing to help (Basically, since I had problems ordering online [Prev. DSL services Through AT&T] that I had to call someone to get the service activated and the Rep. Promised me the $250 cash back). Took only 10 minutes to resolved the issue. So far, my service has been up 100% of the time. No issues with the TV Service in scheduling Recordings online and through the DVR box. 08/10/2009 Received my $150 cash back reward as promised. Still waiting on the additional $100 from them (would take 4-6 weeks to process). So far everything has been working 100%. Not had any issue with DSL or TV service AT ALL! 08/27/2009 Last Saturday we received the additional $100 check card as promised! Already spent all of it on stuff. But what amazed me is the speed on receiving both Check and Check Card from AT&T. I have yet to have any problems with both TV and Internet. Plan to upgrade my TV package to U300 or HBO and Cinema. I'm still debating on this right now. But from what I've herd from people, the package upgrade process is easy and active within a few minutes to a few hours. Followup comments:

-AT&T POTS -AT&T Elite DSL (recent upgrade from Pro) -Comcast Digital Classic w/ HD on one TV -Comcast Extended Basic on the rest (three others) We were considering switching over our Internet to Comcast (before we considered U-Verse), however we tried it and the speeds were very inconsistent (ranging from 2 MBps to 100KBps), yet it was considered normal by the phone support. We returned the Comcast internet equipment preferring to have a lower but consistent speed for our services. When we first considered U-Verse, it was not available at our house initially however our neighbor had it. I contacted a Tier 2 tech from the AT&T Direct board and that was fixed in about a week. We placed the order that night, We went away that weekend (we had a trip to Boston scheduled, stayed in Lexington at the Aloft, I highly recommend it At 9 ish the morning of the install, we got a call that our installer had left the garage and was on his way, sure enough he came to our door about a half hour later. He loved us because we preran cat6 through our house and already had a switch waiting for him in the basement. All he had to do was put on the ends. So he went out to the VRAD to switch us over and see what our service was like. Our initial connection was horrible, 94% capacity (leaving 6% margin for error), and we were about 3495' from the VRAD. They reran the lines to our street and our capacity went down to about 75%. Aside from waiting for the bucket truck and some little hitches along the way (there were three old phone lines coming into our house that needed to be ripped down), everything was smooth and complete. After the install, we noticed that our corrected and uncorrectable blocks were high and the TV was freezing and pixelating often. I contacted another Tier 2 agent on here and a line man came out the next day and shortened 400' from our lines, bringing our capacity down to around 56% and clearing up much of the problems. That night there were severe storms, tornado warnings, the works. So I sent a report back to the Tier 2 agent and he saw some issues with our upload speed so we had a tech come out to make sure our modem was okay. It was, but there could be an issue with the connection at the VRAD. He got a line man, it ended up being the same guy from before. He tightened and twisted our connection as much as possible, and rechecked the lines as much as he could. Our upload possibility is now much more stable, however the pixelation still happens from time to time, and pretty much the only way to fix that would be to rerun the whole length of wire from the VRAD to our house because of the changes in wire gauges along the way. In any matter, the service is much better now and we can live with the little blips along the way. Here is our services: - Max (12) HSI - U300 with HBO and HD - Voice Unlimited - AT&T Wireless Family Plan (don't know specifics off the top of my head) We're happy with what we have because we're paying less than before and getting far more. We now have HBO again, and we're getting all the channels on all of our TVs, compared to just one. I guess we should be considered lucky though because the line man was surprised that we're even getting service at all with our distance so, I'm happy. And if anybody wants to know, the equipment given: 1x Motorola VIP1225 (main STB) 3x Motorola VIP1200 (extenders) 1x 2wire 3800 HGV-B (RG) We supplied the switch, which is a Netgear GS108 Update: We just got our bill and here is a breakdown: Monthly: $199 base features Non Monthly: $39.80 Prorated Charges (If anybody doesn't know what this is, it is a partial charge that is a result from installations or service changes. It is usually only on your first bill) $12.73 Surcharges $11.79 Taxes Followup comments:

On 6/15/2009 - I moved to a new residence and had U-verse installed again. This time I had prerun all the cables, and the install went flawlessly. Adding a static IP block took Tier II magic, but it was done in no time at all. Service is solid and hasn't had a hiccup yet. Followup comments:
