I just had my SBC Ameritech DSL connected, why are the speeds so low? (#5452)
You must keep your modem powered on for the first ten days after getting your DSL installed. This process is known as "ramp-up". SBC Ameritech will test the line for errors to determine the maximum speed the new line can handle and adjust the speed accordingly. This usually takes 10 days or less to complete. Please wait out this adjustment period before contacting the techs about it. They can't do anything but tell you to wait until the 10 days passes.
