https access
Please support https for people who would like to access the site using an encrypted connection.
I'm not asking for a verifiable SSL certificate here - just an encrypted connection.

Re: https access
there is an encrypted login page but that is the only thing encrypted.

I know about that one. Hence my new feature request.

It would be nice if folks who object could state a reason especially since this feature would not impact them in any way if they didn't use it.

Re: https access
it is an ok idea and has come up before, but I am reluctant to put resources into doing it because it probably requires $$$ and new hardware (an https accelerator) and would distract me for a week or two.
The site is public, there just isn't enough critical communication in either direction that needs to be encrypted after login.

To quote the other new features forum:
Make your suggestion as clear as you can so others understand it. Those discussing the suggested feature can follow up with *sign* or *object*. Supplying reasons with your post is helpful, but not necessary.
That being said:
Encrypting the whole site is a waste of bandwidth and additional processing strain (or hardware).

I'd prefer secure login to be the default, but there's nothing sensitive here that would require encryption surely?

Re: https access
Some people may need to use firewalls to access this site. Sometimes these firewalls are confused about content not being appropriate.

Change the firewall rules for access to this site. Much easier and less resource intensive for an individual to do this than require the entire site to change.

We don't always have control over the firewalls.

If the firewall is blocking you and it's not your system not much you can do. I still OBJECT.

What ever I post is/would be seen by everybody, so adding SSL to the whole site is moot/unless.
SSL for PMs, Direct forms, log-ins, sign-ups, changing e-mail address/password (ETC..) would be a lot better.
Is it going to ever happen? No idea.. :uhh:

I agree, if a firewall or proxy server is blocking you from accessing sites at a location, perhaps it's up to the admin of that network to decide whether or not to allow it through.

Maybe not but it's a privacy issue, especially with forum IMs.

Then those that do have control of the firewalls, set it that way for a reason.
