Hiya my friends!
Just a short note to let you all know that I am still fighting the fight. This one has been a bit more difficult than the first, but none the less, I will still come out the winner.
Surgery is done, as well as another round of radiation and chemo therapy. I have had so much radiation now that my radiant personality will never need recharging again. No, I have yet to begin to glow in the dark yet though.
I am now in process with physical therapy. Apparently a nerve was damaged during surgery that caused a muscle in my neck/shoulder to atrophy to near nonexistance. Lifting my left arm is a real task these days. Hopefully it too will be repaired in time.
Some time in the future I am going to get started with speech therapy and with any luck learn how to eat real food again. No food is the worst part at this point. I do not hole a lot of hope for that to change, but will find a way if there is one.
I still think of you all daily, though much of my time is spent sleeping. Thank you all again for your support through my battles.

Great to hear from you and that your spirits are still up no need to chew just take in a liberal amount of Boston ale it is like mothers milk and besides that it has a tendency to get you blurry eyed and shit faced. That is not a reference to your looks because they are and have always been a wee bit strange but acceptable to us for we know you and love to have you here with us.

I know times are tough for you sir, but what a lift to my own spirit to be blessed by your post here! You are in a tough fight, no doubt, but it is great to hear that positive attitude. With a determination to succeed, you will likely outlast us all. :)
Stay strong and take heart that so many are cheering you on, and offering up prayers. Trust in God, but do the things required to treat this, and the combination should hold great power. I hope you feel all the joy and hope we feel in having seen your new post.
Post, or no post, the prayers continue on.

It is great to hear from you. It sounds like the major battle is done and now the healing begins. Your high spirits and the strength you showed in the battle will help you through the healing. It is so wonderful to read this update.
Perhaps you do recall that I once told you a personal story which you described as being 'movie material'.
Every time I see your posts and updates I'm thinking: 'now THIS is movie material'. It's a story about someone who is never, ever going to give up. A story about a knight with a true warrior spirit who will not accept defeat even if the path that must be followed is far from easy. And if there is no path, he'll create one because this will power knows no bounds.
And as you might have noticed, the entire audience is supporting the knight all the way through the trials and tribulations. They are all rooting for him, all the time.

Yes my dear dear friends, I still breath. Life here in the land of the tundra, or so it seems to my freezing butt, continues as does my recovery. It is long and slow but thus far there have been only minor setbacks.
I have said it before, I'll say it again, and attempt to keep my word this time. I will be around more frequently from now on. It may be at really strange hours as sleep is something that only occurs when it wishes to.
Again, thank you one and all for your steadfast support. It still carries me from day to day. I love you all.

Greetings of the New Year my dear friends!!
Although I have suffered a few minor setbacks, which resulted in the onset of some additional pain, the new year finds me well. One very major plus is that the years of accumulated body fat that I had/have are disappearing, and are slowly being replaced with body mass, muscle. My body has found a weight that it apparently is now comfortable with. I have traveled the gauntlet from a high of 226 pounds and a 44 inch waist down to a low of 125 pounds, to rebound to 150 and a 32 inch waist. I am extremely pleased with this!!
Most of you already know that I lost my dad a few weeks ago after a very long illness. His passing, though sad, was a blessing to all of us. He is now finally at peace and free of pain.
Last week my mom had a severe mid-brain stroke. She was in a coma when she arrived at the hospital and after many tests and exams done by the ER docs and neurologists we were informed that there was little if any hope for her. Our decision was to make no decision that day, but rather to wait for a day to talk amongst ourselves regarding further treatment. Her wish was for no life support systems to be used on her.
Upon arriving in her room the following morning my sister said good morning to her from the side of her bed. Mom opened her eyes and moved her fingers as if to say hello. My sister then asked her how she was and she responded, "I'm just fine." I nearly passed out from the joy of once again hearing her voice.
I had been cheated in life by not being with her and having her love as I grew up, and I feared that death would cheat me of that again. As you all know, I have only been back here in Massachusetts for a year. During the past year I have been blessed by having spent a lot of time with her. I had been enveloped with her love and she shared much about the past with me, many thing I had never knew. Thanks to what I can only accept as a miracle I will be able to continue with the new and fantastic relationship I have found with her. I say miracle because one of her doctors said to me that he has seen things in her turn around that he has never seen before. He told me that he had honestly given up hope for her.
During the past week she has progressed from the ICU to where she was transferred to the rehabilitating unit today. There does not seem to be any apparent damage done to her speech or physical movements and she has been out of bed walking about on her own.
Though 2007 ended with far too much emotional stress, 2008 has begun with just the opposite. I look forward to a year of much joy in my life. I wish the same for each and every one of you. As I said perhaps several hundred times during that first night, just keep thinking positive! None of us know what tomorrow will bring, and fortunately doctors are not always right.
We have work to do. There are cures to find. They are out there waiting for us to find them. Perhaps one will be found tomorrow. It could happen.

It's so good to hear from you. And while it seems that you've experienced a rollercoaster gamut of emotions and physical trials in 2007, it seems that you've also found/rediscovered a closeness with your mom. In my mind this is an exquisite gift. Too many times we take people, situations, things, for granted. We forget to live and be present in the moment. Bill, you present and in the moment. Well my friends, we are quickly approaching one year from my surgery, and I am still here, thanks to all of you.
Unlike the first battle when a scan was done three months following treatment I have yet to have one to check the score between me and the beast. My first post treatment scan will be done next Tuesday afternoon. I do not look forward to good news, I expect it. My visual exam was done the day before yesterday and I was informed that "everything looks good." Unfortunately the beast did not reside on the surface so that report was totally expected.
It may be several weeks before I know any results as my followup appointment with my doc is not scheduled until the end of February. I trust that she would contact me sooner if there were reason to, but I do not expect to here any news until I see her in February.
I cannot thank you all enough for your continued support. It is what has kept me going, and here. You will know just as soon as I know. Expect good news.
