End of chemo feedback
That silly doctor - - she had me get a CT scan of my whole abdomen and my chest only to tell me that all the furry critters I was growing have disappeared.
Heck, I couldda told her that if you mix:
•chemical agents,
•biologic agents,
•a couple of weird prescriptions some of which are placed in unmentionable body cavities
• and a MAJOR dose of mojo and prayers from people who don't judge but accept you because you share a hatred for cancer and other nasties
well....the nasties don't stand a chance!!!!
Cured? Nope. I've been told that a stage 4 adeno carcinoma doesn't get cured....it either eats you up or goes into remission. It's major habit is to spread to the lungs and brain....in my case, they must have had the map upside down.
In remission? Nope. Can't declare that for 5 or 6 months after the chemo stops. Then they decide which RE to use RE-MISSION or RE-TRY.
Symptom free? Nope. The neuropothy (numbness and tingling in fingers and the bottoms of the feets) lingers. Heck, I haven't had this much tingle in my body since my first date with...uh, never mind...young people and nice ladies visit here.
Lose my hair? Nope/Yep/I'm not sure. The drugs in my first five cycles made my hair very thin but were not supposed to make it just fall out. The drug they substituted in my last cycle has a reputation for making hair fall out. They tell me it usually happens within 18 days of the treatment. Well, I'm well beyond 18 days from my first round and nearing 18 days from the last one. Hair is pretty thin, but it's summer and I like the gray hair contrasted to red scalp. :uhh:
So, where's all this long-winded gibberish going? No place.
I just wanted to say thank you.
And, I want to apologize again to folks who haven't experienced my good luck with treatment or my results (so far). Hopefully the contrast I offer is that our work is useful and some day, all of them will be more like me.
Heck, some day we might just whip this crap and have to focus on the second greatest scourge known to mankind..... national politics. :D

Old Grouch, I'm just looking forward to that post someday that says "remission."
Have a 26 year old son-in-law who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the liver. That was three years ago, and he currently shows every indication of being in total remission.
Will have you in our thoughts and prayers.

As always, I appreciate all of your thoughts and good wishes.
Went in for a quick flush on my port and asked the oncologist if I had been off the chemicals long enough to have a colonoscopy. No joke, it's been three years and I got my reminder in the mail.
Seems a bit strange to have a metastasized colon cancer and go in for a colonoscopy. :uhh:
Any bets on whether I use the GI doc who has been doing my colonoscopies for the last 10 years? :D
In case any of you are still thinking....the answer sounds like uh, NO.

Re: End of chemo feedback
Thanks folks.
I continue to feel embarrassingly well.
My follow-up (just a SAY HI visit) with the Oncologist is next week.
I did decide to have a colonoscopy this year but NOT with the same folks who had been doing such a stellar job the last 10 years for me. :huh: Gotta have something to look forward to in the middle of the month.
I think I'm getting tired of seeing docs...darn good thing they all hire good lookin' wimmin in their offices. :D
The thing I like about my situation is that it lets me focus all my thoughts 'n prayers on the folks who have newly-discovered issues or are continuing with older ones. Sortta gives you a whole new perspective.
Crunch on!

Thank you nice lady. Thanks to all of you out there!
Something has made a difference - - this month's colonoscopy was the first in 10 years that I was told there were no polyps. I ALWAYS have polyps- - - lots of them.
Hmmm, guess I can't say that any more.

Ode To Vegetables
Cabbage always has a heart; green beans string along;
You're such a cute tomato, will you peas to me belong?
You've been the apple of my eye, you know how much I care;
So lettuce get together, we'd make a perfect pear.
Now, something's sure to turnip to prove you can't be beet;
So, if you carrot all for me let's let our tulips meet.
Don't squash my hopes and dreams now, Bee my honey, dear;
Or tears will fill potato's eyes, while sweet corn lends an ear.
I'll cauliflower shop and say, your dreams are parsley mine.
I'll work and share my celery, so be my valentine.

Aye sire...doing my best so I don't let you down. Fruits 'n veggies every day...many times each day!!!!!
Potato - - vodka
Tomato - - bloody mary
Orange - - screw driver
Limes - - margarita
Cherry - - rum 'n coke
I've got a trick or two that use lima beans and celery BUT, I don't want to scare away the wimmin.
Yep, I'm going to get healthier no matter how much I have to go through.
