[MOJO] Surgery Mojo

Hi,

Contrary to this post »[OT] Arthroscopic Surgery for Torn Meniscus ?, I'm having a surgery that's quite a bit more complicated than originally assumed. I've gotten the opinion of 3 Ortho docs and the consensus is that I need a procedure that does indeed involve an arthroscopy.

However, although I do have a torn meniscus, I have other "complications" as well. My symptoms are not from the torn meniscus, rather, it's from a slightly dislocated kneecap coupled with the joint bones of the knee grinding against each other. The procedure is called Fulkerson AMZ which is a form of tibial tubercle osteotomy. It involves cutting bone and repositioning my kneecap.

I cannot express how frightening and disappointing this is for me. I have been through more than 8-9 surgeries in my lifetime already. I had numerous surgeries as a child (about 4) and 4-5 surgeries as an adult. So, at this point I feel rather traumatized by the previous invasive surgeries I've had. I'm tired of being cut :(.

I'll be outta commision for some time (6-8 weeks). Thanks to the folks here at TD, I'll have access to dslreports because I have a laptop :). Please send some team Mojo my way. The surgery is scheduled for next Friday, September 19.

My blades will continue to crunch throughout my surgery.

Dangit Jacquie - - you're supposed to have that artho-peek-a-boo and head back to work in a week or so.

You tell that doctor you have friends in low places and one of 'em will head up I-65 to reposition his kneecap if he puts you through any more pain that is absolutely necessary.

I wish there was a way for me to take some of your pain and anxiety. Hope our thoughts 'n payers added to the other folks' will do.

- Mike

Re: [MOJO] Surgery Mojo

Here's an update for everyone.

First, thank you all for your Mojo and well-wishes. I sincerely believe that your support has helped me make a difficult decision.

I canceled the surgery that was scheduled for Sept. 19th. Honestly, I just wasn't ready to do it. I was filled with dread and anxiety and didn't want to go into surgery in such a negative emotional state. After much thought accompanied by knee pain, clicking, popping, and creakin' :hmm: -- I have rescheduled my surgery for Thursday, Sept. 25th. I'm doin' it this time so please continue to send Mojo -- it gives me strength.

Thanks again to each of you.

Jacquie

I don't blame you for putting it off - - if it doesn't feel right, don't do it 'til it does.

I still wanna know if your rehab will be in a pool. :D

Yep, after 6 weeks of no-weight bearing, then it's on to the pool :D

OH, northern Illinois...6 weeks is about mid-November.

Should have found one some ice and a scarf!

Everything will be fine and I know that pre-surgery feeling of dread, but honestly it will all go by quickly, leaving you wondering why you fretted so much. :)
What a difference in therapy, they had me up and walking with 100% weight bearing the day after surgery on a total knee. Keep us posted....

A huge "Thank you" to all my teammates for all the powerful Mojo, prayers, and well-wishes :). I appreciate each and every one of you. I'm back on the right track now. I'm into my 4th week of recovery and doing much better. Still no weight-bearing for at least another 2 weeks but I feel so much better than I did even a week ago. Sometimes the healing process is frustratingly slow but I have the patience to wait it out and I'm confident all will be well.

Thanks again for your unconditional support.
