[Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

I have noticed that the information for unlocking the WRTP54G is scattered around in various threads. I am going to try and condense all of this information and make it as easy as possible to help unlock a Vonage/Linksys WRTP54G with 5.01.04 firmware. This is a multi-step process that will require downgrading and then finally upgrading to the WRTP54G-NA firmware.

EDIT: Please refer to the 4th post down for unlocking the RTP300.

Disclaimer: I am by no means taking credit for any of this. All of the hard work is credited to jetzhu, Velund, the author(s) of CYT, and anyone else I missed. I also do not take any responsibility if you brick your device. Do this procedure at your own risk!

Step 1: Downloads
1. Download Firefox and install the Web Developer Plugin.

2. Download and install TFTP32. This is a Windows based TFTP server that will push the firmware to the device.
»tftpd32.jounin.net/download/Tftp···etup.exe

3. Download the following ZIP file and extract to the folder TFTP32 was installed in (ex. C:\Program Files\TFTP32). It will contain some of the necessary files that will be required for this unlock procedure.
»rapidshare.com/files/145934487/v···zip.html

4. Download CYT.
»/r0/download/1···in32.zip

5. Download the modified WRTP54G-NA 3.1.17 firmware from the following website. Disregard the instructions on that website.
»celiom.googlepages.com/linksys

Step 2: Configure TFTP32
1. Run TFTP32. Click settings, and then setup the base directory. Use the directory you installed the program (ex. C:\Program Files\TFTP32) and make sure the extracted files from the ZIP are in this directory. Change security to none, and set the timeout and max retransmit to 10 and then hit OK.

Step 3: Unlock the Console using Ping Hack
1. Make sure you have downloaded everything from step 1 and ensure the wr file from the ZIP is in the TFTP32 folder. Now disconnect from the internet and connect directly to the WRTP54G making sure the device is also not connected to the internet (ie. pull the Ethernet cord out of the WAN port). Also make sure to disable any Anti-Virus and firewall programs that may be running.

2. Use a paperclip and hard reset the WRTP54G (hold reset for 10-15 seconds). Go to »192.168.15.1 with the username/pass of admin/admin. Go to Wireless and disable it. Once the router restarts go to Administration >> Ping. Also make sure TFTP32 is running.

3. On the Ping popup, right click >> Web Developer >> Forms >> Remove Maximum Lengths.

Enter the following and click Ping.

Right Click >> Web Developer >> Forms >> Remove Maximum Lengths. Enter the following and click Ping.

Right Click >> Web Developer >> Forms >> Remove Maximum Lengths. Enter the following and click Ping.

After a few seconds you should see some information in the output box. Scroll down to the last line and look for CONSOLE_STATE unlocked. If you see this you are good to go. Go to the next post below to continue the unlock procedure.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G WITH 5.01.04

Step 4: Downgrading Firmware to 1.00.62
1. Ensure that the rf file and von10062.bin from the ZIP archive are in the TFTP32 folder. Power cycle the WRTP54G by unplugging (5 seconds) and replugging the power. Ensure that the wireless is still OFF.

2. Log back into the router and go to Administration >> Ping.

You should now see a file transfer in progress under TFTP32. After the firmware has been transferred the power light on the WRTP54G will start to blink if everything is successful. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS. IT MAY TAKE UP TO 2-4 MINUTES TO COMPLETE. WAIT FOR THE POWER LIGHT TO RETURN SOLID AND FOR AN ETHERNET LINK TO BE ESTABLISHED.

Step 5: Unlock with CYT and Load New Firmware
1. Login to the router using admin/admin and leave this window open. Ensure that firmware 1.00.62 has loaded successfully.

2. Open cyt35.exe. Select Option 1. Wait for CYT to provision the WRTP54G. The output for a successful provision will be fairly obvious. This process will take 1-2 minutes.

3. Open a new window and head over to »192.168.15.1/update.html. Login with Admin/Admin or admin/admin.

4. Locate the modified WRTP54G-NA 3.1.17 firmware and initiate the upgrade process. Wait a few minutes and the device will reset itself and take you back to the login page. Username and pass should be admin/admin. Ensure that the firmware is 3.1.17.

Congrats. You now have a fully unlocked WRTP54G!

Thanks, no problem. Yes this method will work for the RTP300, but some files need to be substituted. Other than that follow the directions above for the rest of the unlock procedure.

1. Download the following to replace the von10062.bin file contained in the ZIP archive at Step 1 - Part 3. Rename this new file back to von10062.bin. To ensure a proper download use a DOS prompt. The wr and rf files from the ZIP archive are still used for the RTP300.

»httpconfig.vonage.net/rt-11.1.0-···0327.img
or
The DOS prompt will take 5-10 min. The file size is 3,866,632 bytes.

2. This is the RTP300-NA Firmware and will take the place of the firmware at Step 1 - Part 5 and Step 5 - Part 4. Go to the following website, locate and download the firmware. After that you must edit the file for it to run on the RTP300. Use a hex editor and change offset 0x17 from 4D to 4C and offset 0x3B0004 from 85 DA 20 BB to 3B A5 4D DA

P.S. - When using the hex editor simply overwrite the file once you are finished.

You should not unlock your device which is currently in service with Vonage. Doing so may violate vonage TOS!

I am not overly concerned with the TOS... What I am concerned about is that fact that I have an additional port that I could be using in conjunction with my asterisk box, and I have no access to make changes.
Unfortunately, I am stuck with Vonnage for historically reasons, but I really need access to my second port.

You should be concerned about it. When Vonage pushes an update, it will (1) be rejected, or (2) overwrite your settings. They do have the ability to access information on the box, so if they feel you violated the TOS, they'll cancel your account, charge you termination for violation of the TOS, and the whole reason you stayed with them will go up in smoke.

Yes, you will lose all settings. Do not do this procedure with a Vonage box that you are currently using, Vonage will not be able to re-provision it.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

I am a newbie in the Voip Unlocking world. You are telling the entire process, step by step marvelously. One thing you miss though is whether the device from Vonage (in my case RTP300) will be opened and we will be able to see the entire page with User id & Password, domain and port OR does this process wash every setting that was made by the provider and once we do it, we will just be able to use this device with other providers and not (or maybe) with Vonage? I understand your concern about legalities, which do not bother me as such. All I want to do it to be able to see the following:
User ID (generally 1+my Vonage phone number)
Password
Domain
Port (generally 5060 or 5061)
My Firmware version is 5.01.04 or maybe 5.01.14, basically it is the latest firmware. My understanding is that this information is contained under the disabled (by Vonage) Voice button on device's page.

Any help, and I will pray for you, your ancestors, and your later generations.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

You will lose all settings and Vonage will not re-provision the device. This process should only be done with routers that are no longer being used with Vonage. Once the device is unlocked you can use it with any BYOD SIP based VoIP providers.

Unfortunately with 5.01.04, I am unaware of a process that will allow you to view the VoIP/SIP settings when the device is in use with Vonage.

That is a hex edit that will allow the router to accept the non-Vonage firmware. Not too sure what you are trying to get at.

But what I'm actually looking for is the way to flash the box with OpenWRT, not necessarily to fully unlock it. It seems that ping-hack does the trick, and who cares about Admin password if it will be running non-Linksys firmware anyway.
Thanks for the tip though.

OpenWRT may be capable of running, but it's still very preliminary for this platform. You also won't have any of the phone features at all in OpenWRT. So far, the FXS ports are not yet working on anything but the Linksys firmware.

I don't care about FXS, I just need this particular Linksys box to be able to run an ipip tunnel and a couple of VLANs. Just like my other WRT54GS do with FreeWRT. I'm pretty much aware of the situation with OpenWRT and TI AR7-based models, in fact, I was among the first to talk to guy who finally booted OpenWRT on WRTP54G and I'm actively working on it using his patches ;)

Were you saying your WRTP54G is running with OpenWRT? If so, that will be great. Perhaps, you guys need to download the Legerity GPLed driver source for the FXS port and start working on it. By any chance, did you know if anyone managed to run the OpenWRT for TI AR7 on a PAP2v2?

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

Hi.
I´m having problems unlocking my wrtp54G from vonage.

I´ve followed the process by the book at least 20 times, and all the times, when transferring the file to the router, it reaches very fast about 94% (sometimes 93, sometimes 95), then goes veeeryyyyy slow for a few minutes, and then times out. Over and over, so I can´t get to the next step, which is watching the router installing the software.

Any hint?

THANKS!!

That usually happens when the wireless is still running. Make sure that the wireless is off before performing the firmware update.

Worked for me with an RTP300.

One thing not mentioned is that you either have to unplug any other device other than your PC which is connected to the RTP300, or you need to change the IP address it is using for the commands. The instructions (and the RF file) assumes the PC is 198.162.15.100. Your TFTP server window will tell you what the IP address is.

The illustrations are of the WRTP console. The RTP300 Ping console looks a little different.

On my box, the Admin and user logins don't seem to work, but the voip configuration page is available.

Thanks to all who figured this out

Phoenix2088, first of of all, that's for reply and helping me out.

To answer your question, yes, I get the "illegal ascii code" error on the first ping entry and the two that follow it. Just to be sure, here's the first line I paste into the ping field after removing the maximum lengths with the Web Developer plugin:

127.0.0.1 &&cd /var/tmp &&wget 192.168.15.100/wr

I even double checked to make sure my computer was set to 192.168.15.100

This may sound stupid but it's almost like I have the 5.01.04 firmware with a hidden revision that blocks any characters in the ping field that aren't numbers or periods.

I appreciate your help.

IIRC, && means logical AND in Linux/Un*x. & means to put the process in background. That said, you will need to put the ping process in the background before the change directory process can be executed. This also applies to both the ping and the change directory processes before the wget process can be executed, and so on.

Phoenix2088, thanks again for the reply. I'll try your suggestion tonight after I get home from work and report back with the results. I have a feeling the error is caused by the letters or special characters in the commands but we'll see.

Does anyone happen to have the link to the original WRTP54G unlock post by Velund, I can't seem to find it. Maybe he can help shed some light on the problem.

Thanks again.

Phoenix, I tried your suggestion and unfortunately, it didn't work. I did notice something that got my hopes up for a second, though. When I clicked the Ping button, I'd get the error popup message I was getting before but if I just hit enter, I didn't get the same error. Instead, "Unknown Host" would appear in the large status box below. When I pasted the second line and hit enter, it'd disappear from the ping box and no other messages would appear, same for the last line. I waited but nothing ever showed up in that box. Does this info help any? Thanks.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

SUCCESS!!! :D

Since I thought I was getting the error because of the letters or special characters in the commands, I started out with 127.0.0.1 and added commands one by one to see when I'd get the error. That's when I figured out that if I typed the whole line instead of pasting it, it worked! I have no idea why the pasting was messing it up because I was pasting from notepad. So, if anyone else has this problem, type the ping commands in manually!

I'm really sorry, this was my own stupid mistake. Thanks to everyone who helped.

One more question, I'm currently unlocked at firmware version 3.1.17, is there any advantage to going to a newer firmware (3.1.24)? If so, what is the highest firmware I can safely install? Thanks again.

European Telecommunications Standards Institute
Basically, the ETSI firmware is one that follows the standards they've set to guarantee a reliable and uniform response from the WRTP54G no matter which country it is in and what country's phone devices are connected. There is speculation on whether or not it holds any value over the other standards if used in North America, but no real answers yet.

The 5.01.04 firmware is a provider locked firmware. It is not an NA firmware.

Where did you come up with this idea? it's not at all the case. The ETSI version of the firmware is specifically designed for the purpose of complying with the communications regulations pertinent to the European Union (as defined and set forth by the ETSI), so that the device operates in accordance with their laws and may be legally sold and used within their territory. It has no relevance whatsoever to guaranteing anything with respect to quality of reliability or response in any other country or territory. In fact, improperly operating (and in particular selling) a WIFI device designed according to ETSI standards in the US, can produce interference in a frequency band allocated for other use, and is illegal. That said, if you make sure to operate it within FCC specified limits, you'll be fine. In particular, do not operate it on any of the extra channels beyond those that are available in FCC compliant WIFI equipment.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

That is what a standard means, is it not? It's little more than a listed definition intended to ensure devices of different design and manufacture produce a response that will reliably fall within certain parameters. I do not dispute that this standard does not guarantee reliability of signal transmission once it has left the device. My previous statement should have been worded differently. My apologies.
To clarify another point that may have been misinterpreted, the device's output will not differ based on its physical location, but as DogFace05 stated, it does not guarantee the response will be within standards of nations outside the jurisdiction of the ETSI.
The point on legality is well taken. I should have specifically mentioned that it would not guarantee operation within the guidelines of the FCC, and as such, could and likely would be illegal in the USA.

Hi, I am able to unlock the RTP devices. I am now interested in the configuration in md5. It started with LMMC and we can unzip it with zlib. I just cannot find how to get the CRC checksum. If we can generate this checksum we should be able to generate valid configuration file.
The reason is we should be able to skip the CYT tool for device like VT2442. VT2442 can upload configuration and if we generate legal config then the missing GUI to config the VOIP part will not be big issue any more.
Does anyone know how to generate the checksum of the configuration?

Yeah, I've been using JTAG for months with the VT2x42 devices. I just don't see what would be the use to read/write information from/to the mtd5 partition (the primary xml config) or why would someone bother about the checksum.
Once unlocked, these units can be provisioned easily through HTTP ot TFTP, which is what people on this forum have been doing for years.

Just found this thread today and I have been trying for the better part of several hours to unlock my wrtp54g.

However, I seem to be overlooking something.

My router has the 1.00.62 firmware so, I started at step 5

I can run tftpd32 and it SEEMS to finish the provisioning.

It is when I use another tab to login, it gives me the following message

Error: User not allowed to login this user level.

I can log back into the router using the default passwords but, I cannot get into the voice tab so I may upgrade the firmware.

I am sure I am missing something but, cant figure out what it is.

Could I buy a clue?!! : )

From my experience (I've seen at leat 3-4 doing the same), that router not bricked. The firmware loads properly if the wireless light goes on.
The voice part however may have gone bad. It may work with a better power adapter (a switched power adapter with regulated voltage).
If another power adapter doesn't work, you can desolder the part labeled Q5 (the voltage regulator for the Legerity chip - see the picture) and it should become stable but will work only as a wireless router (kind of an "unorthodox" solution, but I applied it successfully to 3 or 4 routers so far)

No one here seems to have a WRTP54G-ST, except you. That said, it will take sometimes before you will be able to find someone with a WRTP54G-ST to attempt such an unlocking. AFAIC, $100 is pretty steep. So, when in doubt, I certainly would recommend that you ought to return this product and get your money back to buy a WRTP54G-NA (non-customized).

I have an RTP300 that was given to me by someone who stopped using Vonage. Everything I've read says I should be able to connect to it at 192.168.15.1 but that doesn't work. The only connection I've been able to make is with a reversal cable directly from my PC to the RTP300 Internet port. It is then that I learn that the RTP300 says its address is 169.254.226.127. When I connect to that address I get a login window but cannot get in by using admin/admin or Admin/Admin or user/user. Instead I get a screen telling me my login doesn't allow me access. Pushing the Reset button, powering off/on, and the combination of the two do nothing. I can't run CYT because it only works with addresses in the 192.168 range. So, how can I talk to this unit and make it take new information?

Power on the router and let it run for 2-3 minutes, then push and hold the reset button for at least 8 seconds (until the lights start flashing). After that, your router should be reset to the factory settings and should have the IP 192.168.15.1 on the LAN ports (unless it's defective).

Since, then, no connections. Otherwise, this unit won't give a steady connection indicator light on any of the LAN (Ethernet, yellow) ports. After a power up and with the WAN (Internet) port attached to my router, the RTP300's LAN port will turn on and off at a slow rate that infrequently allows me to display the Linksys login screen. I found that by using Admin/Admin to login it says I'm not allowed at that level. Using admin/admin or user/user have not been successful because the LAN port connection doesn't stay up long enough to see a next screen. Mazilo, I can't use CYT because I can't establish a connection to the RTP300 through its LAN (Ethernet, yellow) ports. Those ports give highly intermittent, very short-term connections. The only data port on the unit that seems to work correctly is the WAN (Ethernet, blue) connection. Either I coax the LAN ports into working or find a way to log into the WAN port to program it.

I was able to establish a stable connection to the RTP300 LAN port but it required that I have a second computer connected to another of the unit's LAN ports and a fan blowing air into the bottom of the unit. Yes, I'd say the unit is having hardware problems. Once I established the stable connection I was able to login with admin/admin and manipulate any parameters that were allowed. Tried to login with user/tivonpw but that didn't work. Then I tried the CYT Unlocker versions 3.9 and 4.6. Let each of them run multiple times for up to 5 minutes but nothing happened. Recommendations?

If your device runs on a firmware v5.x.x, then CYT_Unlocker isn't going to work. You may have to resort to the NAizer for CYT by DogFace05.

If you can downgrade its firmware, perhaps CYT_Unlocker will do the trick.

Recently got similar unit (from eBay). Turned out to be broken soldering joint below TI BGA chip. If you don't have professional BGA rework equipment handy, I would recommend to ask someone equipped to reflow whole board. It may be more expensive than another used RTP300 of course.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

Hi,

This is great thread! I just unlocked my RTP300 that I bought for $5 on a garage sale. Along the way I found much much simpler way to do it. Here it goes:

1. First of all you need to be able to login as "admin". If you cannot do that then reset the router by pushing reset button for 10-15 seconds and after it reboots you should be able to use default username/password "admin/admin".

2. Download CYT unlocker
»/r0/download/1···in32.zip

3. Save The following code into a file rpt300_unlock.txt. Remove any code and comment lines that you don't need. If you are using Windows then add a space to the end of each line. DOS style line endings do weird things.

You can download 1.00.62 firmware directly from the Vonage servers or use local tftp server.

Bare minimum version of the script looks like this:

4. Login into the router GUI as "admin/admin" at »192.168.15.1/ (if you are using local tftp server you restart it now).

5. Go directly to this page: »192.168.15.1/cgi-bin/firmwarecfg
Browse to rpt300_unlock.txt and click "Update Gateway" ignore any errors.

6. Now go to back to the main menu, Administration tab, Diagnostics, and popup Ping tool. Run this command: "0.0.0.0 &&sh /var/tmp/config.bin"

This must be a little secret of one of the system developers - this command is exactly the length of the input field - no need for web developers plugin. :)

7. When router reboots disconnect it from the internet and run CYT as described elsewhere in this thread.

If everything works then after one more reboot you could first login as "admin/admin" at »192.168.15.1/ and then as "Admin/Admin" at »192.168.15.1/update.html and »192.168.15.1/Voice_adminPage.html pages. If you hooked up serial console cable to the RTP300 motherboard "Admin/Admin" will work at the linux login prompt as well. If you still having problemsrepeat steps 5 through 7 exactly as been written. Built-in busybox is quirky and one space character could make a difference.

It is also worth to mention here that on some of the LinkSys routers after you reset it and login as "admin/admin" first on the main page then subsequent combination of Username "user" and Password "d6nw5vlx2pc7st9m" or "AB2ChJScbtR5I" could let you to the /update.html page.

Enjoy!

Hi
Just wondering if this will help me just use the router without voip. I don't have vonage, don't want it. But I got this router from them when I tried their service, which was terrible.
I can't sell the router - I actually did sell it, but the guy I sold it to was not allowed to use it for vonage and they would not transfer it to him. So I had to take it back.

so I have no need for vonage, but have this un-useable router - and would just like to use it for my home network without voip functions.

One thing that keeps coming up is it is an .img and I have to rename it ....bin so the router will take it. The router does nothing.

I will start over and see if I can follow the tutorial again. The only error I can think I made would be failing to mod the firmware as needed. I would be grateful if someone could write up a "dummies" guide to editing the original firmware.

I finally downgraded to 1.00.62 on my old Vonage RTP300-dont ask how I just kept screwing with it-and can login with a second window/tab using "Admin/Admin" (yes big "A" and must already be logged in with "admin/admin" in another window simultaneously). I think this (»/forum/r22207937) is what helped me with the downgrade.

I am now stuck at Step 5-4, where it says: Locate the modified WRTP54G-NA 3.1.17 firmware and initiate the upgrade process. Wait a few minutes and the device will reset itself and take you back to the login page. Username and pass should be admin/admin. Ensure that the firmware is 3.1.17." When I try this the router gets to about 11-12% and stops indicating "Status: invalid code pattern." I have tried replacing the current firmware (1.00.62-modified) with the firmware 3.1.17USmod and the one from Linksys at 3.1.24 and I get the same error. Do these images/bins need edited to work, if so how?

Can anyone help me out? Just my luck now stuck on the last step!!

Note: If you can get your router to the point I am at (1.00.62) you can manipulate the Voice settings by:
1. Running CYT 3.5.exe and pressing 1 and wait about 1 minute.
2. logging into the router as admin/admin.
3. Copy paste "192.168.15.1/Voice_adminPage.html" into another tab/window where you login with "Admin/Admin"

Getting the tools I needed, I have tried using the JTAG cable, and am able to communicate with the Spansion chip on the board and successfully flash cfe.bin but to no avail. ping 192.168.1.1 does nothing.

I am using TJTAG and the Bootloader creator from Skynet so that I can enter my MAC address.

As it sounds insensible to try to upload a whole flash file via the JTAG before even getting the bootloader to work, I would like to know if anyone has succeeded with a completely dead WRTP54g to breath it back to life.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

One of the best resources for addressing would have to be the OpenWRT site for the WRTP54G.
»oldwiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs(···ardware)
They have all the addresses listed on where to place the bootloader, environment, and firmware images.

I always used the custom addressing to ensure things were set properly. The WRTP54G is a very different machine than the WRT54G. I have also never used the Skynet output, so I'm afraid I can't advise you there. One thing to consider when using a mass-produced code image is that it may change your MAC addresses. Those are coded into the bootloader segment.

Yes, the firmware now loaded on my WRTP54G is the one from the Linksys site. To load this unmodified firmware, the bootloader code must be altered to remove the hard-coded information specific to the provider. It must also have the NA counterparts to this information put into place. Specifically, the product code must be changed at a minimum, and the default password set to something sane.

"Use a hex editor and change offset 0x17 from 4D to 4C and offset 0x3B0004 from 85 DA 20 BB to 3B A5 4D DA"

Also... after an upgrade to the modded 3.1.24, the "Admin" password (for firmware upgrades) is simply blank

All I get is a continuous blinking light! This is not the type of behaviour that I was expecting....

After looking more at the Openwrt page, it does not look even if I wanted to, would be able to recompile the bootloader. Apparently incompatible with the mini-pci bus and incomplete.

my command line entry for TJTAG

tjtag -flash:custom /window:b000000 /start:b000000 /length:10000 /fc:85 /bypass

It was rather quick ( just over 10 minutes ) but when reset, the light blinks continuously. I to get it back to communicate with TJTAG, I have to short pins on the NVRAM. Otherwise it seems like it is totally toast! I tried with address 90000000 like i saw via a hex editor in the bin file, but JTAG just hangs at that address.

Does anyone have a bootloader dump or image?

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

Keep in mind there's a big difference between bootloader and firmware image. The bootloader is what makes loading the firmware possible. Most people will be looking to modify and replace their firmware image. The bootloader, once in place, is modified only to permanently change hard-coded values, and even then, very rarely.

Since you've burned the bootloader, you'll need to replace both bootloader and firmware image code in your machine. The bootloader code is licensed by TI, so you won't find a binary of that uploaded here, either. You might want to begin searching for 'pspboot', which is the name of this machine's bootloader code. I could likely prepare one for you, but it would be subject to extreme delays before I could get it to you.

I orginally had .101 from the ata (no other device connected, it just wanted to start with that even with numbering starting at .100) wf worked on that with the 101 substituted appropriately but somewhere in the rf it tells the ata to look at 100 regardless.
It eventually took the bin which had to be downloaded by cmd prompt rather than windows link and renamed.
I used a hex editor from cnet downloads hex workshop v6 which was fairly simple. entered the line address in a search box at the top which took me right to the spot to edit values which show in red after editing.

Did you use the same power adapter with both? I've seen this happen once in a while with a bad power adapter that under/overpowers the router. Is the power light on? Is it flashing?

I just got a WRTP54G from a resale shop for $5. I figured it was something to play with but now I'm curious. It has 1.00.62 firmware on it, and I can login as admin/admin. But it has the same problem with the ethernet ports cutting on and off. The Internet port and wireless work ok. Ethernet ports are normal until it warms up, then no good. I have another 12v power supply I can try, and I can try fanning it or ice cubes in baggies. So far it works good as a wifi acccess point. Plugging in a phone gets a message about checking my account status. I have a Magicjack already so maybe it's worth messing around with.

It sounds like it's either overheating (check the voltage output from the power supply and see how far off 12V it really is) or that you have a bad solder joint on the board.
If the wireless and internet never drop out even when ethernet does, it's most likely a bad solder joint.

Taking a hint from other posts here, I have found that plugging in 2 or more devices to ethernet ports gives somewhat better connections. Probably a bad solder connection. Gonna try unlocking this thing, not much to lose.

There is a chain of resale shops in my area run by Goodwill Industries. I check them regularly for used networking junk. I got lucky this time but there is no predicting what will be there on any given day.

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

I have a RTP300 and have been following the tutorial exatcly as it shows and have downloaded the RTP firmware from Linksys then hexedited it but I never get that far. I do the commands and see the File get downloaded by the router the file "von10062.bin" goes to it then nothing happens. the power light never starts flashing it just never reflashes the router at all. What can I try? I really want to ge this thing unlocked.

**EDIT**
I wanted to add that I did get it done. I didnt rename the img file I downloaded for the RPT300 to von10062.bin. I renamed it then did the steps again and it worked. i then ran cyt35.exe and it did its thing then I was able to upgrade to my hex edited image file I got from the linksys web site and now I am unlocked. I set it up with MagicJack and all is good. Only issue I get sometimes is the adapter sometimes thinks my phone stays off the hook when I do a phone call. But I really appreciate this guide. Thank you to all that made it possible. Vonage told me that since I didnt have Vonage I should either send them back the router or throw it away. LOL! The guy told me if I didnt get Vonage service it wouldnt even function as a router.

After reading the post by Kavalco, I hooked up an old 10mbit hub in between, and that seems to have solved the problem with the ethernet ports. I wonder if this thing was meant to support 100mbit, or is it just a hardware problem on mine?

Antman, can you tell me how to set it up with Magicjack? Or show me where is the FAQ on that?

Re: [Unlock] TUTORIAL: VONAGE WRTP54G/RTP300 WITH 5.01.04

It is intended to support full 100mbit, but 100mbit requires signaling on more lines than 10mbit. If one of the traces is poor or the chip is flaky, it may lose that signal or have problems with the data transfer.

here is the guide I found for configuring the MagicJack settings: »www.magicjacksupport.com/linksys···942.html

My only issues I am having so far is that if I dont put 1 plus the area code in the RPT300 locks up like the phone is off the hook and no matter what I do it acts like the phone is off the hook. I have to power cycle the router and wait for it to link back up. Magic jack makes me have to put the 1 plus the area code in for every call I do.

Also I am noticing with the RPT300 there is a kinda high pitch noise that come from it sometimes and a click when I pave the phone off the hook or when I put it back on the hook. Is this normal?

First off, thank you all for the helpful information. I just bought an RTP300 and was not aware that it was Vonage-locked one. Following the steps in this forum I have succesfully gotten from Version 5.1.04 to 3.1.22. I thought I'd post a little tip about something that tripped me up for a while. After I had unlocked the router and reset admin passwords using CYT, I could do the initial admin/admin login, but not the Admin/Admin login on the update.html page. I realized Firefox was automatically switching my captial A to a lowercase. I had to switch over to internet explorer to preserve the case of my username and password. Once I did it was a breeze. Just thought I'd share that in case anyone ran into the same problem.

I may be wrong here, but it sounds like it's trying to fill things in from the password caching service in Firefox. If so, it might happen in other browsers as well. Either way, thank you for pointing out the potential trouble. It could save many users a boatload of grief when trying to get things working again.

Hello! thank in advance all the help it can get from you, I have a linksys RTP300 and have no access to VOICE, is blocked by Vonage, I have followed all the steps above before mentioned but I'm not getting results, obviously something I'm failing, but not in which, perhaps may be in the last file and not edit it with the hex editor, I have not found that RTP300 I transfer files to and not because I have all files in TFTPD32 and TFTP32 works fine, now when I go 192.168.15.1/update.html enter a password I do not work or admin / admin or admin / admin or user / admin that is to say no, besides if I enter the Admin when I go to be alone again; would be kind enough to collaborate with the steps a little more detailed and the files to use, given that am only new to this.
thanks for the help.

When you look at the Info page (main page under the VoIP section) does the status of Line 1 (or Line 2, depending which one you configured) show "registered" ? What about Hook state ?
I've seen a few WRTP54G with the voice module broken, and usually the symptom was that after the port registered with the VoIP service the light corresponding to it was blinking, showing "of hook" even whn no phone was connected.

MagicJack has locked down pretty good the use of SIP devices on their network. Been this way for about 6 months now. Some can do outbound, some inbound, but the last I checked (a few months ago), no one got both.

Check out this site for hacking MJ, since they are dedicated to MJ only:

I found that MJ might have changed the way digest auth works. In stead of username:password they might add another info (call-id) maybe. I used SIPp to play what 401 reponse from MJ server but MJ generate different auth header time. So even we get user name and password we might only need to modify the device we have source for it (like asterisk).

No matter what I am set in the VOIP setting pages, this page is nothing change..

But!
The last night, I download the NA firmware, for Vonage WRTP54g. The version number is: 1.00.??NA. This is the original FW for Vonage WRTP, but maybe modded, because SSH login is enabled..
After unlocking CYT, I logged in with dropbear, and see the VOIP logs..
Set line1, and SIP settings, and tadaaaa Line1 LED is light, and I hear dial tone.. Outgoing call is not working.

Conclusion:
1. VOIP module is working!
2. SIP settings is OK

Maybe error in the FW??

Someone could send me the ssh enabled 3.1.** modded fw for my Vonage box?
Maybe if I analyse the voice logs, found the problem..
