[General] I wanna change my primary member ID
How can I get this done? And before you say it's not possible, I read in one of the Bellsouth newsgroups a while back that this one guy managed to get a BS tech to do it for him, but when I called about getting mine changed, the witch
I talking said flat out "no."

So you say, but it seems to me that it would be a simple thing to do.Just change jrsellers3000@bellsouth.net to johnrsellers@att.net, or even johnrsellers@bellsouth.net (yes, I went there...spammers don't scare me) which is currently my "alias" e-ddress.
I don't think it's a matter of not being possible, I think they just don't to bother.

Re: [General] I wanna change my primary member ID
Sorry mate, it isn't that simple, the info you rec'd was not correct. Your UID is specific to your account and cannot cross domains as per a "change this to that". Your scenario of ID's may work, but may not due to the fact that it may be a UID for another customer's account.
UID's are now established at the end user level w/ the self install kit that is sent to customers. What's the point of this anyway? With alias creation and multiple mailbox setup availability what's the need to change, it's only an ID for your account access for the DSL service, not something that has to be used ???

Re: [General] I wanna change my primary member ID
As what i've said changing primary member id is not possible unless you disconnect/reconnect your service. However you can add additional 10 more email addresses on top of the primary member id. So i will suggest doing so instead of disconnecting/reconnecting the service. Reason behind not possible changing the primary ID is because the primary iD is stored on the system that is being authenticated to give you DSL service. Any changes you make to that account will affect your connection especially with ATT for it uses PPPoE protocol.

How is that any different than an alias e-ddress...besides costing me 2 extra bucks? And can you guarantee it'll got to my mom's Yahoo inbox?

Re: [General] I wanna change my primary member ID
Alias is different from what im talking about. Alias is somewhat like you just changed your "skin" or publicly announced email address to maybe avoid spam etc, but still the same email. What im talking about is a totally different email that you can add up to your account..

It is a totally separate email account, not an alias.
It does not cost you a penny more. Where did you get the "2 extra bucks" idea?
Nobody can guarantee that your mom's Yahoo account (or your mom) will not reject your email as spam. :uhh:
Here is how I setup multiple bellsouth.net email accounts. If you have an att.net account, the entry point will differ, but the end result will not.

Yesterday, someone called the AT&T helpdesk (I am the one who happen to answer the call... hehe & I can still remember his Full Name) asking if "his friend" can change his primary email address/User ID because the said email addy is the one being used for "business" and it sounds like unpleasant to his friend's boss... The primary email sounds like a swinger's email address. :D
I am sorry to tell you, but you can't really change that primary email because it is also used as your user ID and it is the one being recognized by the AT&T system.
Just create a sub-account or an e-mail alias. Go to »att.com/internetaccount
If you really want to have a new primary email address, you need to deactivate your AT&T internet service and register a new one. :)

Yes AT&T can change it for you,but be warned you will lose all e-mails on main ID.They will have to delete your current main ID and create a new one this is what was done for me.

The reply by geektitan is correct. The only way ATT is going to change your UID if there is some problem with your UID or in rare cases if you are determined, annoying, and stupid enough the right person or handful of people might could delete your account and have you setup a new one (if they set it up, they can be fired). I don't see any reason a sensibly minded person would do this and if you do this, I hope your modem blows up.

The first part just proves it is possable to change it.
the second part there are lots of reason there may need to be a change. ANd why would you wish there modem to blow up??? if they changed there main user id.

Just out of curiosity, why are you so adamant that your primary ID needs to be changed, rather than simply creating a sub-account with the email address that you wish to use? If you enjoy beating your head against a wall, that is certainly your choice, but an easy solution is readily available.

Just want the name I should have gotten 3 years ago when I ordered my service...I prefer using my real name as my e-ddress.
As for sub-accounts...let's just say that's not an option, and leave it at that.

I am really wondering why sub accounts are not a option??
Was there a reason you did not use what you want 3 years ago??
FYI: i would never want to set up a account using my real first and last name for a email id.
As with a little seaching online with said email address your real home address could be found really easy.

Definitely. Why? Because you're trying to rule out every option except one, changing the primary uid. Why can't you make what you want as a sub account or alias? You're the kind of person that gives tech support agents a headache as can be seen from your first post. You call the agent a witch because she gave you the answer that is required by her job!!! Also, because of people like you that call about something so trivial as a primary uid because it's not your name is part of the reason tech support isn't better, because they have to hire 1000 Indians to tell everyone like you no over and over and over.

FYI, I never call tech support. Why? Because their no help. Why are they no help. Because they'd rather outsource to India to save a few bucks than keep it in the company where they know what they doing.
Anyway, I know it's technically possible for them to change PMIDs, they just don't want to; and what I want to know is how Oleg got them to do it.
Incidentally, I wouldn't have even bothered posting in here if DSL support would ever answer their damn email.

I'm startin' to wonder if you really did this because I was just chatting with an AT&T eAgent, and he even said this wasn't possible, even after I told him it was.
Even if you did, I don't have time to keep calling them until I get "lucky."
I'll just stick with my alias.

When was this Oleg? Before February of this year, changing a primary uid, moving uid's, etc. was all fairly simple. ATT changed a lot of things in February and took away the power to make these changes so only a handful of people have the power to do anything to an UID anymore and they're not allowed to except for very specific reasons.

Well that's not exactly true. Maybe some over seas agents told you no but before Feb, doing uid changes was no problem but only American agents did them and only a small group did them. Depending on the time you called it could either be done right then if they put you on hold and the group do it or they would setup a callback and it would be done the next business day.

no acually it was possable untill they foud out who i was,
which against the F.C.C. rules and regulations.
which states one customer can not be treated any differant than any other customer
and this was not from teir1 this was from tier 2 or directley from NOC

The primary uid can still be changed, but its not just for anyone(ie someone in the state of mind that starts a thread like this) and it can no longer be done in anyway by the technical support desk, the request has to be forwarded to another department.

Please don't tell what department it is. I can imagine the OP calling in repeatedly and badgering tech support to get with that department. To the OP and anyone else though, even if you know that department you don't speak directly to them and they will not, under any circumstances, just make a change because you want it. There is no reason to know what department it is, because if they're actually needed, tech support will contact them.

Correct only Bellsouth tech support can contact higher level and talk to them, but they will never let costumer speak to them.

even if ther is a problem there still has to be a disconnet order issued which will also disconnect and disable any subaccount on it.. there is no change email address orders in the system.. the id is also connected to billing hense ther id appears on the inttenet services page of the ATT bill.. if you call Tier2 to do this they are suppose to transfer you to sales or biling where an order can be issued but keep in mind the service willbe disconnected and i think it takes up to 10 days to get it back due to the order processes
