Questions on porting out of CV?

Sorry if this has been asked before, if so maybe a FAQ stickied at the top of the forum?

I've been looking at other VOIP providers after getting my CV letter and I'm ready to move over to VoicePulse before the influx of CV users jump when the end gets near.

When i sign-up for VoicePulse, I know I'll get a temp number while they port my CV number. In the past when I went from a land line to CV, the port request was enough to close my account with Verizon. Is that true with CV or do I have to do something (call/web/write) to AT&T to close out the account?

Thanks

Re: Questions on porting out of CV?

In the case of porting out of CallVantage, the port completion is sufficient for your account to be closed. That said, however, your best bet is to verify account closure within a day or two of notification that your port is complete (if you don't receive a confirmation email from AT&T within that time). You will know your account's terminated when you can't log in to the customer portal or control-by-phone.

Finally, do NOT contact AT&T to close your account until you have confirmed that calls to your number are properly ringing your VoicePulse phone (and not forwarded from CallVantage, if you set up call forwarding to your temp# while you wait for the port to complete).

Re: Questions on porting out of CV?

My port to VoicePulse completed on 5/26 and all my calls routed to VoicePulse. On 5/27 I got an e-mail from Callvantantage confiming my account closure so it seems like it's automated.

As Fisamo said, you might want to verify after a few days if you don't get the e-mail from Callvantage.

They will close you out at port completion. You will get a disconnect notice once that's done. It took a couple business days for me to get it.

Don't forget Voicepulse has a $50 competitive rebate if you're porting from CV.

My neighbor just ported from CV to Voicepulse and since I am a former CallVantage subscriber, I volunteered to process everything for them.

They chose the Limited 14.99 plan and we were sent a rebate coupon for $30.00, although this page above (thanks to mbowling) shows a $50.00 credit on the same page where it offers the 14.99 plan or the 24.99 plan and implies it applies to both.

Call and ask them.

I submitted my port request yesterday and here is the response I got back from VoicePulse:

"Hello,

We received your LOA and will be able to start the porting process. This process will take a minimum of 30 business days to complete. Once we receive a date for the port to be completed, you will be notified."

Perhaps they quote a "worst case" scenario and the actual porting of the number will be much sooner than 30 business days.

They quoted me the same time-frame. The guy said they were swamped with port requests from CallVantage.
I was surprised but then again, I did provide them with the port form, the copy of their latest bill and now it is done.

They are very happy with the plug and play nature of the service. We just plugged in the adapter and 45 seconds later we had dial tone.

They were having fax issues with their HP 6210 All-In-One machine but I slowed down the fax speed and now it works.

I also selected the 64kbps bandwidth setting when I set them up so they would get good sound quality.
They are on Fios and have a 10X5 meg connection.
