Att DSL Speed Slow + Disconnects Review

Att DSL is a scam. Although they advertise a certain internet speed, they frequently reduce the speed and disconnect the line to prevent you from downloading or even just using the internet too much.

I've been monitoring my modem frequently in the past week and I noticed that Att lowers the speed of the internet from their end so that even restarting the modem won't help most times in resetting the internet speed. To make things even worse, Att disconnects the line briefly (a short period 30 seconds to a minute to make it seem as if it's a problem with your computer) from their end often to directly stop any internet activity.

This is from the Att's TOS, if I had known that ATT promotes this kind of service I would have never signed up for it:

" h. Speed of Service. The actual speed of the Services experienced by you may vary and depends on a number of factors, such as the location of your residence, the amount of traffic on the Internet, the ability of your computer to process data, environmental factors, and other factors beyond the control of AT&T. AT&T reserves the right to monitor or change your current plan speed at any time. No minimum level of speed is guaranteed. "

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ATT DSL, YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH

i must oppose your post. since January of 2000, i have nothing but the best service from AT&T DSL.

and another thing, your registration shows that you are in Lexington MA. AT&T doesn't service that area with DSL. you so are either wrong about who your ISP is or you are lying. i suspect the latter.

This isn't the first time that Att did this kind of thing. The difference is that now they've changed their TOS.
(btw SBC is now ATT)

No, I do have Att DSL. For some reason, a month after my service was activated, they took off the ability to sign up for the service in my area. My guess is that they've reached the max capacity for bandwidth and now juggling their customers with poor internet speed to save costs.

you don't have true AT&T DSL. what you have is Covad DSL being sold by AT&T. you're problem is with Covad not AT&T.
Covad sucks for residential, plain and simple.
why don't you do yourself a favor and go with Verizon FiOS or your local Cable TV company rather than being unhappy with Covad?

I would if I had read Att's TOS earlier. Covad, SBC, who cares what the titles are. If it is being sold by Att they're responsible for the service.

Besides even if it turns out that it is 100% covad's fault, ultimately it is Att TOS that protects Covad's poor service.

I'm starting to think that you work for ATT.

I've had generally good results with resold Covad service for eight years.

If you want help with your Covad service, post [politely] in Covad direct and be patient.

i don't work for AT&T, but i did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
i am very happy with the AT&T DSL service that i have received for the past 9 1/2 years.

If you live in Lexington Ma WTF are you doing getting DSL from ATT sign up for FIOS with Verizon and get some real high speed access.

Sure wish ATT had gone that way here in CT.

I should have gone with RCN but im stuck with ATT for now. In the future, I'll probably stick with cable internet.

lmao.. I do know i have a year contract. If the TOS wasn't so restrictive I would have used a technicality to cancel the contract. I love how you've been trying to discredit me for the past few days.

I've said what I need to say because I've seen a lot of ATT posts by people with slow dsl internet and others have suggested that their computer are infected with viruses, the phone line needs to be replaced, modem this modem that.. blah blah, and it's clear to me that the internet is being throttled from the provider.

I think I'll just accept my losses and end my continuation with this thread. Good luck bud.

att business dsl has contracts, residential is term free
It sounds like you may have "worldnet" dsl

i haven't been trying to discredit you. i've helped you find out the actual service that you have and then helping you to find better options for you.
so much for that though if you are in a year long contract. guess you'll have to suck it up and deal with it.
i would use the correct routes and get in touch with AT&T to see what they can do to 'help' you with your issues. coming here and slamming AT&T doesn't get your DSL service to work optimally.
