[CA] D-Link Modem Not Approved - Please Help
I purchased a D-Link DCM-202 cable modem form my new Cox ISP. Tonight I found out Cox will not allow this modem and my new service does not work (browser navigates to the Cox website ONLY).
Now the odd part is my other address in the same city here in the OC I have the same D-Link modem and it WORKS!
The modem is not on their list of approved modems - neither was it listed when I purchased it for my other address. I only found this out tonight - would think a clear link to the modem list would be easier to find.
When my wife talked to Cox they told here to simple purchase a cable modem - no model, MFG limitations. On top of that the Amazon product link list this modem as "Cox Approved Modems" :(
What do I do I am now stuck with this modem and no ISP. When I spoke the technical support I was told sorry can not help you. Seems like they do not want my business at either of my address. I'm getting a head ache from this poor communication from Cox.

Please advise. :p

Cox only told my wife to get a cable modem - never told her which ones. Today will go into Cox local office and ask for help. Yes the Cox website gives a list of modems - if you only speak to a Cox rep. they telll you nothing. Very poor communication - guess they expect you to purchase the mega-dollar modem from them.

We can't officially recommend or endorse any particular brand/model modem which is why we refer customers seeing more information to the list of approved modems on the website. As long as the modem is on the approved list it can be provisioned on the account regardless of whether it was supplied by us or an independent retailer.

odog if you get back on the list or find out was it was retired update this post please. I still don't understand why it was retired in the first place. Even though I got a SB5101 as a free replacement.

OK - here's how it settled out. Today went in to Cox customer service office and was given a used Motorola SB5120. Made sense since I was inches from going back to DSL-Extreme here in the OC.
If Cox is some kind of super hero why can't they offer a free modem like DSL-Extreme. Yes, they are cable and it is a good product - it's the customer experience that is important. Is the money the make on the modems worth the sour representation they get? Oh- and DSL-Extreme's modem really is not free - it is recycled - I like the GREEN idea - good business model too.
Penny wise and dollar foolish.
Looks like the Cox digital guy was exposed to kryptonite and made him lose his power.
thanks for the nice responses :D

Be thankful, you could have been given a piece of junk webstar.
moto is currently the gold standard of cable modems.

gc128 how long has the dlink been working at the other location? Cox within this past year removed the dlink from the approved list, but mine kept working since mine was grandfathered in.

Re: [CA] D-Link Modem Not Approved - Please Help
I've been having issues with my Dlink DCM-202 cable modem as well. The Cox technician told me the Dlink modem was no longer on the supported list. They are upgrading systems for DOCSIS 3.0 and this modem is not compliant any longer. FYI, the web site has not been updated yet, but the Linksys BEFCMU10 v3 will no longer be supported either.

It would be nice if Cox could be bothered to send a notice to users BEFORE they have issues.

What isues have you been having?

D-Link DCM-202 Modem IS Approved
The Dlink DCM-202 is again a supported modem. The website is just slightly lagging behind what is actual fact.
If you have any issues with local support personnel allowing you to provision it have them contact DOCSIS operations in Atlanta.(I am part of that group)
PWF feel free to PM your MAC address to me, I will be happy to upgrade your modems firmware. If that doesn't help/resolve your issues I'll be happy to put you into contact with local AZ support.

Re: [CA] D-Link Modem Not Approved - Please Help
When I try and do anything more than just browse the web (view video, or upload or download files) I lose connectivity and drop my IP address.
I've already upgraded my firmware to the latest version from Dlink. Cox support said the Dlink model was supported (and is still on the supported list on their web site) but that it is not supported any longer. It's already provisioned on Cox's network, and has been working trouble free since 2007. Until this week anyway.

One other thing, when my connection and IP drops, I pick up the 192.168.100.2 address from the cable modem for 30 seconds.

Nope, just that they were doing some upgrades and that this modem was no longer going to be supported. I still can't even run the speed check without my modem dropping it's connection. :(

Re: [CA] D-Link Modem Not Approved - Please Help
Ok, I managed to find an old Surfboard 3100 and that one appears to be working somewhat better. I still have some latency issues and dropped packets, but at least I'm not dropping the connection each time. It's strange, if I ping www.yahoo.com every 15th ping or so times out. I get 3 time outs in a row and then it starts the same pattern over again.

:)
The 3100 should work for a couple of weeks till I can afford to buy the 6120. I can deal with some packet loss, it's better than a dropped connection every few minutes.

shoot me something I can look at your account with(email address), I'd still like to try upgrading the firmware. The Dlink doesn't need to be on you account, just hooked up to RF and syncd up.
