WOW versus AT&T U-verse

I'm looking into a new internet and cable provider for my apartment in NE Ohio. I found some of the rates and speeds to be reasonable... but had some other questions that current customers might be able to answer.

I couldn't find any BBB info on WOW... but I found their "pricing and packaging" page. The package I was looking at for cable/internet was about $70 (8Mbps + basic cable). I have a nice LCD HDTV so I may bump to the digital cable w/ HD package in the future.

Look at all these hidden fees:

Were you charged an installation fee? For each cable card, HD DVR, receiver, HD pak, trip charge, etc? How does this stack up? Any other recommendations?

On a new install or added service, they usually never charge for the actual installation. I think back in 2002 I was charged $5 for the installation of TV and internet. I've since added DVR, then HDDVR, Phone etc and never paid any installation fees.

there's nothing "hidden" about those fees. you don't even have to pay most of them.

installation fee for me was i think $20, because they had to rewire all the coax cable and also ran a line up an exterior wall and made a hole thru the brick for a new outlet. pretty reasonable to me for all that work (took like 4hrs)

i do pay extra for the digital variety pak and hd pak, but that's obviously going to be charged, since they are extra channels

the hddvr and 3 extra digital boxes were all thrown in when i renegotiated my contract, and there was no install fee or anything (unlike comcast)

My installation was free - I guess it just depends on what you need done

all cable co have cable card rent and box rent fees.
