Cable Modem Question

I'm thinking about switching to WOW from TWC due to the higher upload speed. The prices are about comparable, except that TWC provides a cable modem. I already have a router running Tomato, and plan to continue using it. However my question is A) how much is it monthly to use the modem? B) What are the chances of them giving it to me for free if I tell them it is a determining factor? C) Can I disable all router functions on the modem so I can use my router?

And a side question, for people in the Columbus Area is WOW as reliable as TWC for internet speeds? I have maxed out my connection on TWC for a week downloading a (very) large file.

Re: Cable Modem Question

$2.50, good luck getting it waived, and you can use your own router.

WOW is very stable in NW Columbus near Hilliard/UA. I've had it since 2002 and can remember only one intermittent outage for about 8 hours in that span. I am always able to max out my connection with multiple threads.

A) $2.50

B) You have a better chance of hell freezing over. Or winning the lottery.

C) There aren't any to disable, so you'll be all set from the getgo.

Re: Cable Modem Question

Having been subscribed to a cable/internet package for years, my parents recently decided to bundle WOW's phone service as well. Up until then they'd been using a modem I set them up with so they were able to avoid the monthly charge. However, because the phone service supposedly required WOW's modem, they had to have one "installed". Not sure how they did it but they were able to get the first year of the modem charges free. That's probably the most you can hope for.
