Whole House DVR

I've been happy with my WOW service but one feature that a competitor has that I really like is Whole House DVR....the ability to watch DVR content on any TV in the house. That is one feature I really wish WOW would add and that I would be willing to pay for.

I believe Scientific Atlanta makes DVRs and cable boxes that are capable of this. Anybody think WOW might add it someday?

Ah, unavailable where I am.
WOW was playing with some idea, I thought maybe a year ago.
Some channel that another cable box could access.
On-demand DVR sure seems like a doable thing if it could send on some channel. Might need a few channels to accommodate more than one DVR.

Perhaps someone here will help further foster a rumor of this capability? :)

I do know on Comcast, if you pay to view an on-demand movie, its available for 24hrs, and can be watched by all the cable boxes in the home within that time limit for the one charge. That is nice too. (Never seen that in my WOW days either.)

What you want sounds very marketable.

It certainly is, considering many major providers are working on it. DirecTV's implementation, which uses your existing home Ethernet network, has been in testing for a few months now. And just last week, they announced new adapters that will allow you to use the coax cable instead of Ethernet, so no additional wiring is necessary. That is what will enable the masses to take advantage of the service.

I think whole-home DVR is going to be a big marketing point in 2010, so if WOW isn't already investigating the technology, they should probably get moving. Or they can just be left behind like they have been in other areas, which is probably the more likely scenario.

They were testing SA's implementation a while ago and weren't too happy with the results from what I understand. This was a year ago or so. Things could have changed by now.

At the price at which WOW rents DVRs now, I just swapped out the other boxes for DVRs. lol

imrf - That works OK if you want DVRs on all your TVs and record everything the same on each one. I never know which TV I will want to watch a show on so it sure would be nice to be able to watch a show I have recorded on any TV I want.

Re: Whole House DVR

I know and very understood.

Most of the solutions aren't very simple. AT&Ts works pretty well, but only recently. Before the other non-DVR boxes were just dumb slaves, all they could to is watch. Couldn't delete or setup recordings.

I would be very happy, even with that!
