if this is done with the IM list then why not with the "watched by" listing also.

You have to reactivate it yourself after 30 days.

The difference is I can go see everyone who I'm watching, but I can't see everyone whose PMs I've ignored (which is nobody, but that's beside the point).
People often block PMs temporarily, but few people decide to watch a person temporarily. It would just be a hassle to have to re-add my buddies every so often.
Heck, even if you block someone's PMs with no intention of ever unblocking them, the odds are that they will stop PMing you before it expires anyway.

If you mean how long does "Ignore Instant Messages" last, I don't know. Someone above mentioned 30 days.

ok THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY,it has never happened in 6 yrs or so, and NOW all of a sudden it starts, just surprised me,co-incidence bothers me..
HAS this happened to anyone else on here.,

This happens to people that have an inordinate amount of unread IMs. The system can only take so many before it has to do what happened to you.

No, the normal location for the IM block list is on the IM page. It's not the same as ignored users.

I wouldn't think ignoring IMs from the owner of the site is altogether the best idea, but that's just me.
As for your original query, I have not experienced that issue ever.
