Long Shot- Life After DSL

I have been using DSL with westell DSL modem/wireless routers for the past few years.
Soon I will be moving into a Cable modem household. That does not have a wireless router. I have an old stand alone wireless router but it is not nearly as fast as the westell DSL modem is when it comes to moving stuff around wirelessly from a home network standpoint.

Is there any way to use my cable modem and use the westell DSL modem as just a wireless router?

You can check whether this FAQ is useful:
»Westell Equipment Forum FAQ »Guide to Using 327w as a router for Comcast

It may depend on the firmware as to whether that applies to your modem.

Wow thanks for that.
Maybe it is possible.

I read that post and the configuration all makes sense but from a hardware/physical stand point it still doesn't make sense to me.

The Avg router has an "in" port to the left which is where you plug your rj45 cable coming from your modem into the router. Then there are usually 4 separate ports to the right where you plug everything else that uses the network into.

The westell 327 does not have that "internet" port.
I guess you would just plug it into one of the 4 slots since they are 2way streets, but it is hard to imagine that would work.

My Mistake.
I read it closer and you do use the router hole 1 and need to change the software from looking at the DSL entrypoint to the Ethernet 1 entry point.

Thanks again for the guide.

You've got it.

You should be able to check whether the needed config option is present on your modem.
