Cannot left click using mouse properly
From yesterday onwards my mouse is facing sensitivity problems with the left click function, whenever i left click using my mouse there is no response, so in order for my mouse to sense the left click i have to hold down the left button for around 5 seconds and then only it can sense it otherwise not
I dont have any problems with its right click and its movement over the screen
I have not tried replacing the mouse as i dont have an extra mouse
so is this a power surge problem (caused due to heavy rains) which must have defected my USB ports or is it a virus, my AV's dont detect any threats
the reason why i may say its a power surge problem is because my "usb bluetooth dongles" driver (installed software) is missing on my PC, but my bluetooth dongle glows its light when its connected to my USB port

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
Have you rebooted the PC?
Have you tried plugging the mouse in to another USB port?
If you've tried those two steps and the problem persists, I'd suggest going in to Control Panel > Mouse Properties and reversing the buttons. Set the left button to "right click" and the right button to "click."
If you reverse the buttons and the right button works ok for the click function, it's 99% likely the problem is the mouse has failed.
If after reversing the buttons the right button still has to be held down for 5 seconds, further troubleshooting will be necessary.
Good luck.

Yes, But still the same problem

Yes I have set and yes now i can use the left click function by pressing the right button of my mouse and as usual my right click function wont work properly becoz of the left button which faces a sensitivity problem as i said

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
Then I'd say you've confirmed that the problem is likely that your mouse has failed. The next step is to replace the mouse.

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
Good troubleshooting jefe.
I agree it's a pretty sure bet that your mouse is failing and you need to either replace it or develop the habit of using the mouse buttons reversed.

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
oh no what a problem
i will have to reverse the functions for time being and then i will have to replace the mouse
i think a cordless mouse will be better don't know whether its good in bluetooth connectivity, as it may loose connections as its wireless
anyway thanks a lot jefe and asdfdfdfdfdf for solving this simple problem as i thought it could be a problem with my USB port

pc problem or mouse problem
ok so i used the mouse for some more days and one day, i faced a big issue, when i turned ON my PC , all the lights glew plus my fan was working but my pc couldn't boot and of course no beeps
later i just removed my mouse and connected it to some other USB port and everything started working fine so just the next day i bought and connected a new mouse and then i found something annoying my computer booted with the beep sounds but suddenly it went blank then i just removed this new mouse and connected it to some other USB port and then my computer booted normally and now with this new mouse i dont have any problems with left click
but i am facing a new issue using it, whenever my pc starts up (log on screen to select account) my mouse doesn't respond i.e. even though i move the mouse the mouse pointer on the screen doesn't move and then it starts moving after i wait for around 2 mins, so then everything goes normal
So there is a delay in my mouse laoding on start up for around 2 mins,
I use zenith PC and this new mouse is called as "enter" (company name) mouse my older mouse was "zenith" mouse
so is this problem related to my mouse, PC or USB port, dont u think it could be a power surge problem if this problem is related to my pc

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
see if you can delete any old mouse software from add/remove and just use the MS driver.

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
ok i have not done anything but now my mouse pointer does not delay on start up, its fine
and the next thing is that my pc was not booting as i had mentioned before in my message actually the thing is that my power supply had gone and i replaced it with a new one and my pc boots fine now
but now the problem is that my mouse pointer automatically starts moving a little bit, but sometimes even to the extreme end of the screen even though the internet is disconnected and i have found it as normal as i have done a google search on it as optical mouses are of poor quality many of them face the same issue

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
I stopped using optical mice a couple of years ago. They are strange. Plus, when mine was dying, it had very odd symptoms that one would not connect to a mouse dying and it took me a long time to figure out that it was the mouse causing the strange symptoms. I went back to a standard, corded three button mouse and have been very happy as I have had no problems with it. When it decides to die, I will know it is the mouse because it will have symptoms connected to a dying mouse not weird symptoms like the optical mouse had. Plus, I never liked how hot my palm became using the optical mouse.

Um, if your palm was getting hot due to an optical mouse, that mouse had SERIOUS problems and probably should've been thrown out right away. An LED (or even a Laser) in optical mice should NEVER get hot enough to cause any sort of perceptible heating.
This may end up being a case of 'you get what you pay for'.

As for the mouse moving open up the Control Panel - Mouse - Pointer Options
Check to see if "Snap To" is selected. If it is uncheck it. Depending on the mouse there may be other options available that will move the pointer without user input so look at all of the options available.
As for optical mice or laser mice being inferior that depends on what you spend and who makes it IMO. As having used optical mice and then laser mice for years I would never give up on cordless mice for a wired one. YMMV

What pray tell is strange about them Marilyn?

As Jahntassa said if you feel heat from the mouse then it may represent a mechanical or shielding problem so use common sense and return it for a new one or repair of out of warranty.

Huh? I prefer the old ball mouse. It has a much better feel and far better control. Plus, I dislike big mice and most are too big now. This generic Dell one is the right size for my smalll hand and is better than the optical ones. I have had more than one optical one and they all make your hand hot. I don't like them.

There are plenty of small optical mice, in fact they can go much smaller than ball ones. You were trying some pretty crappy units if they heated up your hand. That's all there is to it. Enjoy cleaning your balls and rollers.

Do tell which brands and models that cause this.
You would be the first I have heard complain about heat issues from a mouse. :uhh:

Re: Cannot left click using mouse properly
I haven't seen ANY small mice in the stores here. All are HUGE. Anyhow, this computer is under extended warranty for two more years so if I need a new mouse Dell will send a ball type free and that is what I like as Dell mice are small.
I never ever have had to clean a ball type mouse in over ten years of having them. They usually last 4-5 years or longer. The optical ones don't last like the ball ones do.

Dell themselves make an optical mouse that's exactly the same size as the one you likely have. In fact you'd be likely to get one of them if your ball breaks.
There are tons of small optical mice, there are very tiny ones for mobile use. Logitech V100 (cheap) and VX Nano (more pricy, laser) are quite small and there are even smaller ones.

Find me a ball mouse that small. Either you are blind or the stores in your area really suck, notebook mice are everywhere.

I have an MS Optical (The original Five button optical) that I bought back in 2000. Still works great.

this is a disadvantage of optical mouse

[/BQUOTE :but hey how can i do that to stop automatic movements of my mouse ! :hmm:
i mean that option is meant to move my mouse pointer automatically to the default button in the dailog box, so it will move my mouse automatically more which i dont want

Mele20 @ 6th Nov 12:33AM:Re: Cannot left click using mouse properlyI don't want a notebook mouse especially nothing from Logitech. I want a standard three button mouse for a desktop. Yeah, I could use a notebook one but I just want a standard mouse for a desktop. Those are not tiny but they are not big either. I need one that is not just for right handed and it amazes me how many are still just for the right hand. I still have a Microsoft three button smaller mouse (PS/2) for my old computer and I always liked it.
Yes, I have had a Dell optical mouse and it is the same size as the Dell ball mouse I am currently using. Dell sent me the ball mouse with a computer exchange several years ago although I had a Dell optical one at the time and continued to use it until it died. I then got out the Dell ball one and I like it better than the optical one. The size is just right ...not too small and not huge like so many I see in the stores. Yes, we have only Office Max and Walmart to shop in for computer stuff. The only thing I don't like about the Dell mice is that the logo wears off really fast (but not as bad as Dell Quiet Keyboard in black where I have worn off most letters but Dell white Quiet Keyboard, after over ten years, still has all letters visible).

Grail Knight @ 6th Nov 04:32AM:Re: Cannot left click using mouse properlyI suggested you look at that option to make sure it had not somehow been selected by default not that I wanted you to chose that selection.
When a user installs a new mouse depending on if the user installs software supplied with the mouse the OS will supply the drivers and select default options for the mouse which is why a user should always look at the mouse options after replacing a mouse.
