[Split] Can get IP but cannot browse

Not to thread jack, but I have a similar issue. I can get a IP, but I cannot surf/browse.

If you can browse by IP address, then you might have a DNS problem.

If you cannot even browse by IP address, then check your line statistics to see if you are having line problems.

Re: Westell 6100 and linksys WRT54G cannt get an IP address

I can browse if the modem is hooked directly to the computer and taken out of bridged mode.

When hooked to the router, and the modem in bridged mode, I get a public IP, but cannot browse the web.

I tried putting in a generic DNS server into the router, but it still doesn't work.

I have a thread about this over in the Linksys forum.

Re: Westell 6100 and linksys WRT54G cannt get an IP address

I found your linksys thread. It appears to be this one:
»[DD-WRT] Have an IP, but no browsing/surfing

It provides a little more information.

When you set the modem as a bridge, make sure you set it as an unrouted bridge (not as a routed bridge). And make sure you enter the PPPoE authentication information in the router and configure the router for PPPoE.

Apart from checking those, I'm not sure what else could be wrong. I have not heard of any problems using the 6100 with DD-WRT.

Your other alternative would be to set the linksys to use a LAN IP range of 192.168.2.* (or anything 2 or greater for the third octet). Set the linksys to use DHCP on its WAN interface to pick up an IP address, and leave the PPPoE on the 6100.
