I used to have vonage and I still have the voip adapter. When I try to sign up on their site or over the phone they tell me that I have to be locked into their 1 year contract with a $40 cancellation fee. I can understand this if I'm using their subsidized hardware, but I'm not. It makes no sense for me to lock myself into another contract at no benefit to me (and I dont need another adapter). Is there some hidden option to get around the contract if you have your own hardware?

As a former 5+ year customer of Vonage, I'd certainly consider coming back if they allowed BYOD and month-to-month plans.

They have one way of doing business .... that's locked ATA's and long term commitments. That's a real shame. Must be a policy from the Business Prevention Department.

yep, i was a customer for 2 years. I won't come back until they have a non-contract option for people with their own device. Vonage would probably make more money. I would even welcome a $5-10 setup fee since I imagine there is a minimal cost for number assigning,setup,etc.

The contract would only be for the disconnection fee I presume.
