[IL] modem information page

How do I get to the cable modem information/signal page if I have static IP's?

I have static IP's....that would be the address of one of my own internal routers......

then its really simple,, change that routers ip.

or hook directly to the modem.

because as far as i know you cant change the modems ip.

The modem is not doing DHCP. In that sense anyway...I have specific IP's mapped to specific MAC addresses. It's basically acting as a bridge from what I can tell....I was hoping I could connect to the gateway address to tell me the same thing..but alas, that is not the case. I suppose I might be able to pull a regular IP by connecting something with a different MAC to it...don't know if there are any restrictions from me pulling a 3rd IP or not....hm.

Mediacom uses dynamic IPs except in rare cases for specific businesses. There is only one IP address per modem.

What is the IP range you used for your LAN? Also you should already know the IP address for the modem if you actually have public IP's on your LAN, so that is what you use to access it. Not that hard really.

Re: [IL] modem information page

Why would you use 192.168.100.1 as an internal address? This is reserved for modem access (generally accepted) on a cable system. When I had mediacom business (5 statics per modem x 2 modems) you can still access the diag page @ 192.168.100.1 ... if you weren't silly enough to use that subnet in your internal network.

PS: Modems never do DHCP unless it's not able to establish a connection and it hands out a 192.168.100.XX IP to maintain connectivity to the downstream device. It's a bridge.

OK then, how would I know the IP of the MODEM itself? The modem is acting as a bridge...it is not my gateway. If it were, I would be able to ping it in less than a millisecond anyway. My default gateway is NOT in fact my cable modem.

@beachintech Did not realize the modem would always answer to 192.168.100.1. I'll have to see if I can get a machine setup on that subnet to take a look. I really hate not being able to see information from my perspective to see where problems I'm having might be.

If you change your internal IP structure/subnet to not use that particular IP you will be fine.

Re: [IL] modem information page

I have a couple of statics and the router itself is not serving out any IPs. I'm pulling my statics which are mapped to the MACs of my 2 routers.
