PC keeps locking up..

I built a mini PC a few months ago for my mom.. however the past month it's been locking up or locking up with artifacts or the latest one tonight was locking up with a greenish type screen with orange lines running diagonal across the screen (frozen)

the mobo is a Zotac any ideas? everything is new in the system.

I would suspect graphics card first. if the vid card has a fan, make sure its operating correctly.

no fan it's a onboard type.. a Geforce.. I'd have to get the model number.

Check for video driver updates, also motherboard BIOS updates. If nothing else, have you kept up-to-date with your OS updates ? If using MS, check out autopatcher.

Ok it's really bad now.. it freezes at the company who makes the board with little tiny squares.. this is with it being off for hours.

:-/ bad motherboard I guess? I'm clueless here.

sounds like something is overheating? Have you checked inside for clogged heatsinks?

Yes I checked I blew everything out with a air duster which the case had very little dust in it at all.

start checking your ram... take all sticks out except 1 and run memtest... if it passes, try your other sticks the same way.

Simplify your system as much as possible, then start troubleshooting.

hmm before I do that I should be able to get memtest to run right? because right now it's locking up pretty much as soon as anything shows on the screen which is pretty much right after you turn on the power.

Are you overclocking anything? Again, I would take all but 1 ram stick out.

No overclocking it's 100% stock

and I will take the ram out and report what I found
