Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
Hi guys,
I've been having very slow connection speed every night from 5pm - 2am every night. After 3 month of cleaning my cookies, restarting modems, bypassing routers, and technician visits; they finally told me that it's because of the server that I'm connecting to is running at 99% capacity every night.
And now I'm stuck again waiting for their Network Operation Center to "investigate" the problem. Anyone else had this problem and had it resolved? I don't know how much longer I can sit around and wait. Anything else I can do or someone I can talk to?
Thanks!
William

Don't want to jinx it ... but all is well here. Better than normal, in fact.
Edit:
Suppose I should add - Santa Monica area here.

Re: Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
This started several weeks back and occurs ONLY in the evenings. The neighbor also has RR with similar experience and test results.

Re: Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
Been having the same issues... I've had to unplug my router/modem because my internet goes down completely... or otherwise some sites won't load at all.
It's the same old DNS crap... I swapped in the OpenDNS numbers again tonight, haven't needed them for months, but everything's loading fine again.
TWC really, really, really SUCKS!!!

Re: Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
I just got my RR installed yesterday afternoon here in LA. At first everything was blazing fast. Last night, not so much... pages hanging, sites not loading, and this morning, much of the same. Less than 24 hours with RR and so far unimpressed.

Re: Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
I give up.
After a 3 month of waiting and a week straight of calling every single day. I was told every single excuse possible from time warner / road runner's level 3 tech. They won't even give me a refund.
"We do not have a direct line of communication with our NOC team. You just have to wait."
"Our supervisor is on your case, he is the only one with the ability to escalate your trouble ticket but he is not in today."
"It looks like you are not on any server right now, they might be in process of moving you to a less busy blade. Just wait another 72 hours."
"I need to verify your social security number (when I didn't even use it to sign up)"
"I don't see any ticket open on your account."
"I just emailed our NOC team, I'll call you back when I hear back from them (I was told this from three different reps, of which zero called back)"
Anyways... Can anyone recommend an ISP for zipcode 91745? Except Verizon, they don't service my address for some reason.

Re: Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
My neighbors saw the same thing for many weeks until one switched to AT&T DSL. She's never looked back. The other neighbor hooks to my wireless connection when her TW doesn't work-which is just about every night.
Hmmm..I guess it wasn't THEIR problem after all, Hob! Many others here are seeing the same problems that they did.

Re: Extremely slow speed at night (Los Angeles)
After three month of non stop calling. I was able to get in touch with one of the tier 3 tech support supervisor. He was kind enough to write directly to the network operation center regarding my slow speed issue.
Two days ago I received an status update from him (yes, he actually called me). He told me my server is getting decombined and it will take couple of weeks to move and balance out modems connect to that specific server blade.
So far I've seen some improvement, instead of constant high ping and slow speed, I get lag spikes and download speed has gone back into 5mb/s range with occasional drastic dips.
So, I suggest you guys call tier 3 and demand them to look into your servers' utilization. If it is too high, demand a supervisor to open a NOC decombination ticket.
Also, speak with cancellation department, usually you can get some compensation for the slow speed.
