[DSL] Intermittent sync and LOW connection speed.
Approximately 3 weeks ago I started having problems getting my modem to sync and I noticed when it did the speed was way down from what it had been for the last year. I have been a DSLExtreme subscriber since August of 2008. My service is for 1.5 Mb downstream and this is what I experienced for most of the first year. Now when I can get sync (several reboots of the modem are required usually) it is at 200 - 400 Kb. If I am really lucky, maybe 800 Kb. I have called Verizon out and they say that my line is OK (rated at 1.7 Mb downstream). It held that for maybe 5 minutes then I lost sync again. Verizon and the DSLX tech I talked to (ticket 3691742) suggested replacing the DSL filters on the phones; I have done that and installing a NID splitter where the signal comes into the house. I was told that DSLX would not provide this (I understand this to a point) and that I should be able to find it at Fry's (they said "What is that?"). I have gone ahead and installed a new jack that goes straight from the NID to the DSL modem. It does not seem to have made any difference. I have tried 3 separate modems (a Westell 7500 that has served me for the last year fine and (2) DLink 2320Bs) all with the same results. Is there anything else I should check or should I just resign myself to this? I find it odd as I just renewed my subscription a month before based on the reliability of the past year.

Re: [DSL] Intermittent sync and LOW connection speed.
Hi Steve,
I took a look at your line and current line readings which look extremely marginal. Based on the note in the last ticket it appears Verizon came out and was able to obtain sync at the NID/MPOE at the full sync rate with the inside wiring lifted. This would indicate a problem with the inside wiring causing the modem to sync lower. Based on what you indicated above it sounds like you have done your due diligence in installing a NID splitter to help eliminate that problem. I would recommend that at this point we open another ticket with Verizon to have the line further tested and dispatch out once again if necessary. I have gone ahead and opened a ticket with our support team on your behalf. They will get the process started and give you a call to further trouble shoot.
Thanks

Re: [DSL] Intermittent sync and LOW connection speed.
Well it has been 2 days and my speed is back up near 1500Kb downstream. I have done nothing extra here so I wonder what caused the change. Hopefully this will continue. I have received 3 calls from tech support, but have not been able to call back yet.
George, thank you very much for responding so quickly.
