I had the exact same problem you're having (Springfield IL). After "many" calls to Comcast over a two week period and trying different ideas, I decided to buy the SB6120. That was three weeks ago and I've not lost connection once.
Yeah, I think I might just go the 6120 route. Plus it looks really cool. :D

dropped again at 2:30pm. always during a phone call, like there's a little man inside the cable modem waiting for me to make an important call... self restored within 2 minutes.

Re: Longmont Colorado HSI Cable Modem Issues: Locks and Drops

This may be related to this:
»SB5100 constantly losing upstream channel

And possibly related to the recent SB5100 firmware update if that is what you are running..

Re: Longmont Colorado HSI Cable Modem Issues: Locks and Drops

I don't have a SB5100 -- have a Scientific Atlanta little black box. Service has also been stable since my last posting (at least I haven't noticed any drops); so maybe the Comcast butt crack boys have worked out their issues.

Re: Longmont Colorado HSI Cable Modem Issues: Locks and Drops

Same here in Louisville, CO.

Comcast is screwing around with their network, ostensibly working towards DOCSIS 3, but each time it returns it's just a little bit slower in accessing the Internet, perhaps due to new DOCSIS 3 customers hammering their existing connections.

Thus connections to "real" sites are slower, but connections to speedtest.comcast.net are as fast or faster than before.

Except for their unannounced multi-hour outages overnight. :(

Fort Collins, as well. Dropping fairly regularly.

Re: Longmont Colorado HSI Cable Modem Issues: Locks and Drops

Hi, I have seen 2 different symptoms in this thread - one where a disconnect repairs itself after a few minutes and another where the only fix is a power cycle of the modem. Which issue did you have? (I have the 2nd, have to power cycle.) You posted it fixed on 10/21 - is it still fixed?

I am in Longmont and am getting regular drops overnight that require a modem power recycle to fix. Are others still having this problem? Any fixes?

Same problem here. This began this past weekend. Will get dropped and require a modem restart to get re-connected. Big downer for playing online games. It's inconsistent in that sometimes I will get several hours before the next drop, and sometimes it will be 15 mins. Signals all look good.

I had 2 drops yesterday and called Comcast. They are coming out today. I also had 3 drops today. So far it has only been happening to me in the mornings.

Re: Longmont Colorado HSI Cable Modem Issues: Locks and Drops

In Colorado Springs I have been having the same problem - loss of access to the internet - the router is fine (linksys with dd-wrt loaded), the cable modem does not always show the issue - but if I do a remote reboot it seems to be happy(er). (some times it will auto recover if I don't do anything - no pattern on length of outage, etc)

Last night Fri 13th --- I had at least 15 drop outs - reboots, resets, and nothing seemed to make it happy for more than 10 - 15 mins.

I was only using IM - so that's no big bandwidth hog. Earlier in the day I could not bit-torrent a copy of Fedora 12 beta - however, I was able to download the image directly with average download speed for me.

A friend that lives 10 miles away was having similar issues - drop outs, reboot's of modem / router.

I figured it was time to buy a backup modem - stats on my old modem
Software Version: SB5100-2.3.8.0-GA-00-NOSH

MIB Version: II

VxWorks Version: 5.4

Common error messages

2009-11-14 04:09:10 3-Critical R005.0 Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out
2009-11-13 21:19:06 4-Error C401.0 DCC-ACK not received
1970-01-01 00:00:04 3-Critical R002.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out

The 1970 date time stamp was due to a re-load of the base conif of the modem.

My guess is they are fidding around but after 5+ years it was time for me to have a backup modem on hand

The DCC-ACK is interesting. That implies it tried to do a Dynamic Channel Change, but something prevented it from finishing?

It looks like you have a port 25 blocking config file. Comcast thinks your computer was abusing mail?

If they were - they forgot to tell me - I use web mail vs pop3 or other setup.

Until I get a fixed IP address I don't do local mail.

I figure it is to prevent people setting up their own mail server.

Nah. It's to prevent a spam botted computer from spewing spam on to their network.
