[help] Terrible speed at nights & weekends 07110

For the last month or so, I have been noticing incredibly slow download speeds in the evenings. I keep on calling help and telling them that day-time speeds are around 10Mbit/s but night time it drops anywhere between 600Kbit to 2.5Mbit....

Helpdesk personnel is horrible and would not listen reasoning. They insist to send someone to waste my time. I called friends living in the near houses and they all have the same issue.

It's probably that many people are now watching videos over the internet and Shared Cable like Optimum is not able to cope with it.

I am extremely disappointed with the service especially b/c they are not honest about it and their helpdesk is not really helpful as they simply follow a checklist which does not seem to include escalation other than sending a tech.

Too bad. This used to be much better than Comcast but seems like days of Cable are counted now...

I notice the bad speeds all day. Thing with OOL performance has been getting worse. They need to do something or they will loose customers. I used to get better speeds with DSL years back than what I am getting from OptimumOnline today.

You're not willing to go through the repair process, so don't expect them to fix it. Find another provider -- clearly this isn't working out for you.

My evening speeds have not been stellar recently, but for a Saturday night, this is the fastest I have seen it in some time here in Nassau County

HUH? They are willing to send a tech but you are saying they won't escalate? How are they supposed to fix it then, by long distance magic? LOL!!!

"I want it fixed NOW, and DON'T send a tech to do it". :uhh:

Hmm, did you read my msg at all? A tech would be helpful if the problem was isolated to my connection.

In this case, it is simply waste of time because issue is not with my modem or cable connection but the whole area I am living in is slow at night.

The way they can fix this is by looking at the available bandwidth in the area I am living in and by increasing it as they should recognize that this is a capacity issue.

See what folks are saying here... A tech keeps on coming but of course there is no solution to the actual problem. It's just lip-service not service to solve such issues

You have no idea what the cause of your issue is. It may be a bandwidth issue or it may be a mistuned laser somewhere on the HFC in the outside plant.. The reality is, absolutely nothing will be fixed if you don't feel like following their established repair process. Like I said, time for you to find another provider. Move on.

I have a pretty good idea where the problem is not and I don't need to waste my time knowing that there is nothing their technician can do for me. If you look at other threads in this forum, many people are complaining about the same issues and some of them have been visited 15+ times without a solution of course.

I am telling "the doctor", hey I used to run miles but I cannot even walk now, I have no breath... and they say we have a procedure for that "we will check if you have 2 legs".

Cable companies are monopolies in may areas. I do want to move on but I am stuck with these guys who won't listen and that's why this is even more frustrating.

If you don't have anything useful to say, save your breath and please move on.

It doesn't matter if you think you know where the problem is, or if you called 100 other customers and they all agree with you, or if you think you're a computer guru who knows everything about everything. The call centers get 100s of people like you every day saying that they know what the problem is. They never get their problems fixed either.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that no matter what you tell them, they need to see for themselves. Any company would go bankrupt if they did repairs based on what customers told them. How many calls do you think turn out to be bad cables, something not plugged in, etc...? You are not special. There's no reason to think that you will get treated any differently than anyone else, especially since you won't even attempt to let them start their process.

Here's some advice: Every time they send someone out, it costs them money. The more they need to send someone out, the more money it costs, which means the problem gets escalated and they look harder to fix it, so it stops costing them money. Get it? You won't get anywhere with them until you start following their rules.

P.S. This applies to all companies, not just Cablevision.

but thing is- they send tech in regular working hours, when everything fine and dandy. And customer end up looking like a tool with no problem discovered.

Yes, this is how it will work. They will send someone, no problem will be found, then they will leave. Then when you see the problem again, you call about it. They send someone out. If they find no problem, you call again on the next problem. Then they finally realize that something else must be done, and they get higher level support people working on it.

And what do you care what some faceless company thinks about you? First and foremost you are a paying customer to them. Do you think they have some flag in their internal system that says "[X] This customer is a tool". Get real.

What they WILL do, however, is write down if you are rude or non-cooperative in their call notes, and that will make a difference on how nice they want to be with you. This is not a company policy, but human nature. So ALWAYS talk to the phone people with respect and courtesy. Same goes for the guy who shows up to fix the problem.

Exactly.

Cablevision knows what the problem is because everyone is having the same issues. It doesn't require a home visit. The f*cking problem is that the nodes need to be split in certain neighbourhoods and Cablevision has been lazy in doing so let alone even admitting it.

Established repair process my ass. Don't waste your time taking a day off from work for it and losing a days pay. You'll get some lazy ghetto a-hole tech that will come early during the day when the kiddies on the block are all at school and your speeds will be perfect and then he'll say, "no problem, bye!"

There's no f*ckin problem in the home if you're speeds drop down to 1mbps during the nights and weekends and magically goes back to 13-15mbps during the day. The problem is Cablevision and they know it. My advice, switch to Fios if you're lucky to have it. If not, try DirecTV and Verizon DSL until fios does hit your neighbourhood. Sadly, Verizon's 3.0 DSL is faster than Cablevision nights and weekends and speeds are always consistent. If you're lucky and happen to be close to one of their CO's, you might be even eligible for 7.0mpbs service like my friend has. He got tired of CV's bullshit, got 7.0 dry, DTV and a magicjack and he's pretty happy now. At least you'll get much better picture quality from DirecTV as well as an added bonus

Gres7 nailed it on the head. I keep telling these guys that sending someone during the day is useless as my speed is just fine.

To play their game, "I" have to waste my time waiting for them, taking a day off from work. Some people can afford it and in the other threads some said they have had up to 15 visit without a solution.

So, yeah it may be costing them money, but apparently not enough to upgrade the bandwidth. It looks like the only way they will start "listening" to people is when they really see people leaving.

The reason they are so comfy in their chairs is because they have monopoly in countless neighborhoods and they know there is no competition anyway. So they screw us and force us to play their game.

The good news is that FIOS is probably a few months away now. Verizon is no better as a company but it's some competition at least...

This is also how they weed out the "real" problems. If it's not such a big problem that you'll wait for the tech, then it's not really such a big problem.
