Call forwarding with Ring Control

I am strongly thinking of ditching AT&T, both voice and DSL and switching to a local WISP, Skynet360. They are offering a $50/mo no contract offer of both internet and voice. They use Vonage for VOIP.

Now under my current AT&T voice, I have a basic line + call forwarding with ring control. I know that Vonage has call forwarding, but I want it to ring about 4 times before forwarding to my cell phone. I do not see that mentioned on the Vonage website.

Does anyone know if this exists with Vonage?

No problem. With Vonage you can set the delay for forwarding. If you set it to 20-25 seconds it should be around 4 rings....

I would be cautious running VoIP over a WISP. It can be tough, just an FYI. I have used Vonage over 2 different WISP's at remote locations, and was never happy. You may want to think about dry xDSL service.

Re: Call forwarding with Ring Control

The latency on my AT&T DSL is 100ms +. It drops or degrades often and it is really pissing me off. I am currently using the same WISP for a remote location 10 miles from the tower. I see 30ms latencies and it has a 1Mbps upload. The download for me would be in the 2-3 Mbps range. It is extremely reliable and cheaper. Plus we have a VOIP line at the site through our local Fonality server. We have had no problems.

A dry DSL line would still cost me the base line charge. Plus I am at 14K feet from the CO, solid copper. The change of any fiber upgrade is zero in the next 4-5 years.

I figure I would stay with the WISP until something better comes along. This is a no-contract system, so other than the $99 install, there is really nothing to lose.

The price of an AT&T (SE) DSL Direct line is only $5.00 more than a line share DSL circuit. I don't know of any AT&T POTS that is available for $5.00.

Of course if your current line shared DSL service is not reliable, then it would be a crap shoot as to whether a new circuit using a different wire pair and DSLAM connection would be better.

The problem is that there is no DSLAM. It is straight copper from my neighborhood straight to the CO. The cabling is old and terrible. Frankly, I even have Comcrap as an option. But I refuse to use them. I have DirecTV with a basic package for $35/mo.

Anyway, despite the negatives about VOIP over WISP, I have yet to see an issue. Frankly I use my cell phone more and that is why I want the call forwarding. Plus with the Vonage call transfer option, I can always transfer the call off of the cell.
