Though the hard drive needs a serious upgrade for HD. 160GB? That's it?

Re: New PVR

I'd settle for a firmware update that would allow for a Widescreen menu and the ability to use the USB port for an external HD like Bell offers there customers.

Re: New PVR

As someone who suffered (and complained vocally) for two years about the problems of series recording, I'm just happy to have a PVR that does what I want it to do.

Sound and picture dropouts aside, missing the whole program is so much worse.

Now, if only they could fix the LONG PAUSES WHILE USING THE REMOTE CONTROL problem (without messing up anything that works), I'd be a very happy camper.

The 6416 is a capable box. Now StarChoice, on the other hand...

I enjoy the artifacts and sound drop outs on recordings.

That's not the 6416 that's Cogeco who blames Rogers who are their "Source" or the client that Cogeco gets their signal from.

It almost seemed like the problem was fixed 2 or 3 months ago but now it looks like it's reappeared again, but hey that's another thread.

USB, 1394, eSATA - anything! Just gimme an option for when the internal tiny drives finally decides to crap out.

The firmware exists for eSATA ports to be enabled on the 6416, 3416, 6412 phase III, 3080. You just gotta get Cogeco to roll it out.

Re: New PVR

Are you using this firmware in your system yet travisc. I know I talk to the same guy from Motorola you do and he wasn't aware that anyone was using it yet. From what I understood the guide see's the added drive and the internal drive as one big drive. If I'm correct you won't be able to disconnect the external drive and dump it's contents or use it with anything else but the set top box. Something the broadcasters had insisted on before their legal dept would give the ok.

Any suggestions on how we can get that to happen?

Re: New PVR

OMP, yes, we're using it. Have you talked to Victor from Motorola? He knows all about it. We found that a lot of Moto guys were completely clueless about it. And yes, you can only use the external drive with that box, it encrypts it to that box specifically or something along those lines.

chdude3, OMP sounds like he works for Cogeco, maybe he's your guy to whine at?

I'm pretty sure that Shaw has got this up and rolling, you can use an eSATA drive on most of their PVR boxes. I'll try and confirm with my buddy in BC.

It would be nice though if Cogeco got this going.

Pace for sure; I thought I'd seen mention of Motorola as well but I could be wrong because my info currently isn't even secondhand.

These posts claim that with Shaw, the Motorola 6416 units do support eSATA:

Pace already worked, it's been enabled on Motorola boxes with an eSATA port on firmware version 16.74.
