[DSL] Dynamic IP address management problem
I have had a problem that has been occurring for a while, but I have neglected to get it fixed since I used a simple workaround that has worked for a while.
I run a set up of 2 computers (lets call them compA and compB) behind a router with the router set up to act as a DHCP server. One day (sometime in the last 6-9 months) something happened to the router and it did not work at all. I took the router out, and direct connected compA to the DSL modem. DSL service like this continued as normal, and I did not get a new router for a week or so. Got a new router, connected the router to the DSL modem, and connected compA and compB to the router. No net service even after waiting 10 minutes after changing the current dynamic connections from 1 to 2, and back to 1 after an additional 10 minutes on a seperate tethered connection though my cell. Tested with compB only connected to the DSL modem, and still no new IP address, but connecting compA still has the same address and connects. I then got an idea of Mac cloning compA's mac address to the router. Net access came back to both computers, and no problems after that.
Now fast-forward to today. I have another new router, connected it to the DSL modem, still the same problem with the dynamic ip addresses not being assigned to the new router. Cloning compA's mac address to the router makes everything work again as normal. Is there something that can be done to "fix" this problem of me not getting a new dynamic IP address besides only mac cloning?

Hi vileP -
Have you attempted to increase the number of DHCP connections on your account? You can do this under the Members section of our website at »www.dslextreme.com/members
Thanks

Re: [DSL] Dynamic IP address management problem
Yes, I have increased, and I have decreased the number of connections and have waited between 10-20 minutes between switching. There has been no change. I just currently increased the number of connections from 2 to 5 now, and and currently on my tethered connection waiting for my router to pick up a new IP.

Re: [DSL] Dynamic IP address management problem
Can you send me a PM with your account info? I would like to try to clear your session in the router and rebuild you to see if that works.
Thanks

Re: [DSL] Dynamic IP address management problem
Now I am getting a new IP address for compA's mac address and mac cloning compA's mac address onto the router, but nothing responds from compB's mac address or the new router. The current number of dynamic connections is now 5.
