[CATV] Proper Lehigh Valley Guide For Windows Media Center
I"m excited to get the improvements that have come with Windows 7 and Windows Media Center. I installed my home premium version without a hitch and got to the point of selecting the "guide" for the Lehigh Valley area. If anyone has gone through this before you'll know that there are several options to choose from and usually its a guessing game which one is correct. I live in Bethlehem Township and our area has been upgraded to the latest digital service which includes the channels for ABC, CBS and NBC HD in the 1003 - 1010 range. It seems that none of the guides I choose during set-up has this channel line up. All channels end at 999
Has anyone found the proper selection for their guide?
John

not sure this is an issue with RCN, as it seems more of an issue with Microsoft and Windows 7. Have you tried asking them over at their forum?

/methinks he might be in the right place, though I'm afraid I don't have any answers..
I do see others asking similar questions on the net

Though I always hate to dissuade anyone from getting their answers here, where they posted..this community looks like it deals exclusively with that type of question.

on second thought, after reading the post again, he's been crushed. Meaning everything but certain channels won't work. And I can't confirm, yet, that the HD channels are available unencrypted post crush. He needs a box to get the channels he wants. I do not believe RCN will offer support for this.

Im not sure I can help but I can try.
Often with setting up Media Center Guides you are offered quite a few options to choose from for your cable provider. For example, in my area, NYC, I have perhaps 4 or more options like:
RCN - Fiber
RCN - Digital
RCN - Digital - Digital
RCN - Digital - Digital Rebuild
RCN - Digital Rebuild
And there may be more that I have forgotten. However one must chose the right one to have the right guide / channel information. In my case its now "RCN - Digital - Digital Rebuild" which indicates the completed digital transition. So its not a crap shoot or a flip of a coin type of thing.
You could try going to zap2it.com then going to TV then TV Listings. then see if they give you a Change My Location options which should list your provider in your area as well as the sub-options they offer. Then you can go through each one in the web page to find out which one matches your lineup.
BTW, my HD channels start at 602 and I dont think I have anything that goes beyond 999.

If they're fed data via Tribune/Zap2it, see if there's a listing like:
RCN Cable Allentown - Digital (Lehigh Valley)
That one seems to go over 1000 for HD.

Re: [CATV] Proper Lehigh Valley Guide For Windows Media Center
Thanks for all the postings...yes I debated weather this was the proper forum or not yet its really a matter of what "RCN Guide" to use not really a technical Windows 7 issue. With some time to spare last night I did go through the following without luck
Lehigh Valley (Digital)
Lehigh Valley (Digital, Upgrade)
Lehigh Valley (Upgrade)
Lehigh Valley (Allentown)
All this worked prior to being "crushed" and now I can't find to find the channel line-up that matches the new written guide provided to me.
Yes...we have HD channels over 1000 according to their information and in fact it works just fine on another TV upstairs connected to one of their HD boxes only.
Yes...I know about the cable cards and I have two cable card tuners in perfect working order on the Media Center TV (installed by RCN no less)
I will try the Zap2it and see if I can come up with some answers there. It beats going through the tuner process again and again which is the only way to change the guide and takes about 20 minutes at a clip.
Thanks all

John,
Any luck with the guide? I also live in Beth Twshp and upgraded to Win 7 and with the new crush cannot get the new channels over 1000. I'll head over and check things out at zap2it as well to see if I can find anything.

Re: [CATV] Proper Lehigh Valley Guide For Windows Media Center
Used the RCN Cable Allentown - Digital and it got me most of my channels. I'm having issues with the HBO's but it looks like it might be a signal issue on my end. Otherwise everything else at the moment looks great.

when you want to try a different Media Center guide, do not let it find your signal....do that manually. That will cut the time down to a few minutes.
My guide is LV-upgrade (not crushed yet). The guides are provided by RCN and I think they are not quite on top of that all the time.

That is actually good advice. I'll try that....
No I haven't solved this yet. I believe the right choice for me (us) is "Allentown - Digital" but despite Zaptoit.com showing channels over 1000 they do not show up on my guide. This leads me down the path that it might be a windows 7 issue because this DID show up under Vista Media Center. I'll be poking around thegreenbutton.com to see if there are similar issues.
