IPKall out of numbers?
Attempting to sign up at »phone.ipkall.com/ shows me an empty list under "Choose Area Code ..."; proceeding anyway results in "Currently there are no numbers available. Please check back again." This has persisted for a couple of days.
Anyone know whether this is a technical problem or they are really out? If the latter, why the sudden demand?

Google Voice and Sipsorcery have certainly up the demand. I have secured two Ipkall numbers since getting my GV number(s).

Currently they reclaim numbers that are unused for 30 days.
Perhaps they would be tempted to make that time shorter, that is, to recycle them faster!
If you want to keep an IPKall number, it may be a good idea to call it at least weekly to be safe.

Agree. I futz with quite a few of them. I have them listed in my cellphone, and once a week I call them all a couple of times. They're then happy and so am I. Mine shouldn't be closed unless I take a two month African safari, away from all cellphone networks.
In just checking their website I see the pull-down menu has no area codes to choose from. This looks unusual. Maybe they've gone fishing for the weekend. Hopefully they'll populate their database with numbers shortly.

I just looked at their site, and I can choose 3 different area codes.
206
360
425
You may want to try again. Or it could be your browser. I'm using IE 8.

Oops, sorry that I didn't post an update. On 10/27, some area codes appeared and I signed up. Although I quickly got an automated "pending" response, the approval message didn't arrive until yesterday.
I haven't tried the number yet (it's just for testing; I wouldn't trust this sort of free service for anything important).

Re: IPKall out of numbers?
I just made a test call from GV to my IPKall number and it got the correct caller ID for the first time (instead of the usual fixed Washington State number). Maybe related to whatever IPKall is doing?

More than likely it is related to how GV is terminating the call going to IPKall.

206 is now gone from the list. That's probably the most popular because it includes Seattle.

Four area codes (206, 253, 360, 425) are available now.

Seems like they're out of numbers again. Either that or having technical difficulties.

I wonder if that has anything to do with Gizmo5 closing for new registrations... folks must be looking out for somewhere free to route their GV calls to.

Re: IPKall out of numbers?
Right now IPKALL doesn't seem to be working right. I just dialed all my numbers (I have about six), and half give constant busy signals.

Same here.
I only use one IPKall number, now it is constant busy signal.

Re: IPKall out of numbers?
I am able to register my IpKall DIDs successfully thru my CallCentric SIP-URI on my PAP2T ... Registration State: Online. However, I, too, am getting a busy signal when I dial in from PSTN, Cellular and VoIP numbers.
IpKall-side = 1777xxxxxxx@in.callcentric.com
CC SIP-Proxies (inbound and outbound) callcentric.com with matching UserID 1777xxxxxxx
Addendum: May I point out that at the bottom of the IpKall home page one sees a Copyright date of 2003-2006 ... and the comment "Ipkall has no connection with freeworldialup.com". That would tend to suggest that this company runs on "automatic" with no need for day to day (or even year to year) intervention by the CEO. All of the technical stuff has been in place for years ... even the automatic cancellation after 30 days of non-use. So there appears to be no incentive for the owner(s) to make any changes to the setup. We've seen IpKall outages in the past (as recently as Sept of this year) and they always seem to bounce back ... but it's anyone's call as to whether the IpKall service will return or just disappear (as did FWD and FreeDigits and SR and so on and so on, etc., etc.).

my ipkall numbers either ring busy or if they do answer the quality is terrible. looks like some bandwith issues on ipkall side.

If your IPKall service stays "up" for more than 4 hours, call your doctor.

Hey! All my IpKall DIDs (one from each of their offered area codes and all ending in two zeros :uhh:) are working fine now. And all four area codes are now shown on initiating the sign-up process.

Is this their secret..when they run out of numbers the service goes down until enough people cancel their numbers then its working again?

Uh, maybe. I just dialed through all my IPKALL numbers, and they now work. Just now I went to the IPKALL website and see 206, 253, 360 and 425 area codes are now available.
