Odds of U-verse Availability

U-verse becomes available in my area tomorrow. I am located very close to the central office, less than 2 miles. What are the chances that I will be able to get U-verse? I'm being tempted to go with Charter who is offering digital cable, phone, and 5Mb for a lockin 2 year rate of $118.00.

Your distance from the CO is irrelevant unless the VRAD serving your location is actually in the CO. You will need to be closer than even one mile to the VRAD (cable distance, not as the crow flies) in order to get U-verse. I think the max distance is ~3000 ft. Find out for sure where your VRAD is located, do the math, and you will have your answer.

BTW, I am just under 2 miles from my CO too (and that is where my DSLAMs are located). I figure the chance of ever having U-verse offered at this location to be about nil.

Your best, most accurate information is going to be someone that works that area. If you see a tech working in your area, ask them.

WRT the distance issue, the relevant distance is to the xbox (oops, we're supposed to call it an SAI) your line works out of. Depending on the wire gauge, etc, that could be anywhere from 2800' to 4200'. A rough rule of thumb is about 3000' on 26 gauge.
