new large size cable going up in atlanta
This week and last week workers from att have been installing this really large sized cable on the utility poles in my area. Some of it seems to come out of the ground and some of it is going down to other poles. What is this cable? is this for uverse or maybe it's fiber optic cable? I thought that komrade phone company didn't want to innovate and use that expensive useful fiber optic cable. We are supposed to be using slow and outdated equipment here in america so why are they so willing to actually upgrade now?

Well it was on the side of the road and that side of the road is very narrow and their trucks took up that and some part of the first lane of the road so I didn't want to get ran over, in my area we have a lot of people that can't drive correctly and some of them don't even pay attention to what is directly in front of them.

If it was a large cable, then it's probably not optic fiber. As for what it's for, unless someone on here was actually working on it, there's absolutely no way anyone can tell you if it's for Uverse or not.

That might depend on the OP's definition of "large". I can see how someone might describe the flexible conduit used to protect the actual optic cable as a large cable.

I have seen many of these rolls in Memphis, TN.
They installed a small cabinet box (VRAD?). It is next to a utility pole where that roll was sitting.

Yea, that looks like the kind of cable that was being installed underground when the idiots hit a gas line and closed down a main thorough fare in north Cobb county, GA less than a year ago. I haven't gotten any improved service except for mailers claiming I can get Uverse. HA HA! It hasn't happened!
