To use with VOIP? I don't think any option is available. In India there is no VOIP service. Most popular are prepaid mobile phones, POTS and then fixed wireless (called WILL - wireless in local loop). If you explain your need in detail, more people may pitch in.

Yes, I was looking for a VoIP DID, I had no idea they don't allow VoIP over there.

This article suggests to me that at least as of last month, VoIP does exist in India, but may soon be banned:

That's going to be rough for companies that go to India to fill their product/service support needs.

Cannot say that I feel sorry for them though.

Re: [General] Cheap DID in Bangalore ?

PX E. Your reply triggered my curiosity and did some searching. As VOIP cannot co-exist with PSTN due to regulations, I don't think any VOIP providers are there. The article shared by you talks about several VSPs, but search doesn't provide any names or details.
I think the VSPs mentioned in the article are providing International callers to call India and not providing DIDs or service within India.

Cisco case study »www.cisco.com/en/US/solutions/ns···t-1.html shows how several multi national companies are using VOIP for internal communication. But these calls cannot be terminated to a regular PSTN line.

Well now I am real confused.

What is this about---which I found after about 23 seconds:

This just seems to be one example. And they DO list India as a country where service is available, and they do process payments in Rupees.

Perhaps you can look into this further.

Re: [General] Cheap DID in Bangalore ?

Sorry. I think I am hijacking the thread and I am not up to date on the services available. However in FAQ,
Are the incoming and local calls free?
No, we charge incoming, local within USA, long distance and most international calls at the same rate. Calls from other subscriber are free. Local and STD calls within India are not permitted by the law at present . This service is designed as a secondary phone line which may not be used every day. Due to this, the tariff has a low monthly minimum but charges for incoming and local calls. You will find that overall, the service is cheaper than the rest.

I may not be right, but I do not think they provide DID numbers in India. The service is only for calling international numbers.

you just want a DID number into a SIP trunk, or full service with adapter and two-way service? I'm talking to a provider based in Bangalore, so I can ask him about the lay of the land for you.

my guy in Bangalore told me that it's not legal for an Indian telecom company to offer DID numbers for VOIP termination. my guess is that somebody probably does it, but if there are phone police in India it would get shut down.

Indian DID's have never been generally available as far as i know. at different times t-pad, sipbroker and some calling cards have had Indian break in's. these were very quickly shut down.
