YouTube (just YouTube) really slow
YouTube is ridiculously slow when loading videos that aren't "SD", to the point where even if I leave a tab open with the video loading for a few minutes, they don't load in a reasonable amount of time. It's like this pretty much all hours of the day. It only occurs with YouTube. I can torrent/usenet my ass off (not while on YouTube) at top speed, and pretty much any other site is as responsive as expected.
I was trying to watch an Assassin's Creed II video in HD, and on YouTube it was loading too slow to watch. So I go over to GameTrailers and it buffers for a few seconds and then plays from start to finish without buffering at all.
What gives? YouTube is (obviously) THE video site. Everyone in the house is complaining that it's too slow. Anything I can do?
I live in the Cleveland area if that matters. I forget what plan we have, it's the fastest one available here. Top speeds after the speedboost wears off are about ~1.7 megabytes a second.

It's often times slow here too while loading SD videos too. They need to add more capacity.

And here I thought TW was 'throttling' YouTube because it competes with their own TV service :uhh:

Working fine on TWC Albany. I'm also not using Adobe's junk flash player to boot. Probably has nothing to do with it, but Youtube seems fine to me.

That is quite an assumption mate, considering the astronomical amounts of other possibilities like poor network configuration, lossy router, poor flash install, many other computer issues. Are you psychic? I am on RR standard(10/1 with powerboost) from TWC and already stated no issues(and I'm on wireless atm to boot!). I do believe the OP is having issues, but to assume throttling is just passing the buck because it's easy.

could be flash player it self 10.0 is buggy and slower then the older one
so you think the modem has a bad config?

As to the first, it's possible. I would remove all traces of flash and reinstall from square 1 to be sure. It shouldn't be that big of deal. As to the modem, very much not likely. It could be a bad router on the path. Bad network config on the pc. Some conflicting program. The list goes on. I found the new composite rendering engine in KDE conflicts with Flash 10(absolute rubbish). My solution? Installed gnash, as it can handle youtube and several flash games. Enough to fill my need for flash.

YouTube was down for maintenance last night. As of the last month or so on Verizon and Frontier I haven't had any issues with buffering video. Been just like the older days even with the HD video.

I was being sarcastic and poking fun at people like you. You have no proof, so stop spreading your garbage on these forums. It really gets old.

His 2nd post before the third edit admitted he was trolling because he was bored. While I agree with you, don't feed the troll. They only get bigger when fed.
Ironically, his first suggestion in his last post is kind of on the ball. Adobe Flash 10 has been much more troublesome than 9, in mine and my clients' experience. Some experience stutters that seem like buffering to them due to Flash 10 going into full software render mode blah. This applies to both Windows and Linux and can depend on things like your driver. Open source drivers for Linux are troublesome in this case due to a vendor line that says "SGI", which causes Flash to disable hardware acceleration. This is a horrible way for Flash to determine if hardware acceleration is available. makes Flash+3D desktop a no-go on many of my machines. Since Youtube is my biggest Flash app, I mentioned gnash because while it's developmental, it works just fine with Youtube with hardware acceleration.
Just thought I'd pass that along while I was on the subject. Maybe it'll help someone. Flash 10 has some other issues too, but that one is all too common due to Adobe's stupidity.

If any of you are using OpenDNS or custom DNS servers, you might want to fall back on RR's and see if the problem goes away....
It's happened to me in the past. OpenDNS was the culprit.

Been using Level3 DNS servers here and still have not seen an issue with Youtube to date. I do know what you're getting at(local cdn server), which Level3 seems to account for by giving you a close resolver. Not sure if OpenDNS has such a system in place.

I just switched to OpenDNS on a hunch and it fixed all my YouTube speed problems! RoadRunner's DNS servers suck.

That has been known for a long time. Just look how long ago I cited that fact in my review of Roadrunner. It's a non-issue for me since I like running my own resolver. I use Level3 for the laptops.
