I'm bailing in a little over a week

It has been a good ride WOW, but I have to leave you for Comcast.

You are just not keeping up anymore. My brother-in-law just got Comcast and I could not believe how much better the TV service was. Nice DCX3400 HD/SD DVRs, Tons of On Demand, lots of HD, Powerboost (great for my internet usage), Phone with VM I can access via the web, nice program guide. I wish WOW would keep up but I know they are the little guy. If Comcast was not beating them on PRICE as well as features, I might stay but they would really have to undercut them hard. $99 per month for 2 HD DVRs, one digital box, 8/16 PowerBoost Internet, + phone is just too tempting to pass on. Sure, it could go up by $20 after a year but we all know how to negotiate that stuff. I have to do it every year with WOW too. Plus I can now get Little Einsteins On Demand for my son, now. :-)

I called my brother's Comcast rep this morning. BAM, he was here at 7PM tonight to sign me up and gave me his personal cell to call if I ever need anything once I am signed up. WOW could take a lesson from these guys. My number will be ported and everything should be done by the 1st week in November.

My rep. said he heard WOW is losing ~2,000 customers per day to Comcast. Hope they can do something to survive and keep competition alive.

It has been great, WOW, but you need to keep up with the times. You need to WOW us!

Good luck to you all here in the forums. It has been great conversing with you!

comcast starter or preferred / classic?
if starter then if wow full digital you may end up with less tv channels.

and how did you get 2 HD DVR at that price?

$114.99 is the stating point for Triple Play with plus / preferred at $139.99 and the HD dvr are any from $10 /m to $20 /m each. You bill may go up more like $20-$30+ after a year.

Re: I'm bailing in a little over a week

It's Digital preferred. Forgot to mention I also have HBO, Starz and Encore (part of this package deal). The sales guys that come to you have deals not available online or if you call. He can get discounted pricing on lots of stuff. He told me to call him if I need additional hardware or channels later and I can get discounted pricing on it.

The base package I got is $89.99 per month for the Digital Preferred Triple Play + HBO, Starz, Encore. It comes with one DVR (same box is either HD or SD) and 2 more digital boxes. Since I wanted two DVRs instead of one, my monthly rate is $99.99. Contract states monthly rate won't increase by more than $20 per year.

He also instructed me to call him if I had any customer service issues and he could take care of me since he has direct access to the support people.

I have had Comcast for over a year and very happy. It's nice to watch Hockey Night In Canada in HD (rebroadcast on the NHL Network HD) instead of in SD on the Canadian channel.

Internet has been fine up to last week. Going to sort that out soon. The speeds are great still even with the issue. Never seen these throttling thing and Comcast is going to roll out VOD on the Internet.

If I was a big guy on DVRs/HD channels I'd probably agree with you on comcast vs wow. Don't get me wrong, I love my HDTV and wouldn't give it up for the world. However I use the 'net for most of my content, so I'm much more particular about internet than cable.

If comcast hadn't already shown a willingness to use shady filtering tactics, as well as put a cap on accounts-I'd probably be with them as well. However, I love me some usenet, and I'd rather not be stopped from downloading the obscene amount of media I do =/.

Re: I'm bailing in a little over a week

I don't think WOW could possibly be losing 2,000 customers a day to Comcast. If they were, they would be out of business in just a few weeks...they don't have that many customers to being with.

As far as products go, I was always happy with Comcast when I had them. However, when I had a problem with anything...it was a nightmare trying to get it resolved in a timely manner. That is the sole reason that I left Comcast for WOW. Even if I pay a little more or get a little less....it's worth it in the end for me to get better service when I need it.

For many people they won't hopefully experience the problems with the Internet that I saw with Comcast. I would get periods of 40% packet for for 6-8 weeks about 2 times a year that they never were able to track down without sending about 15 trucks to my house and eliminating everything in the house. Of course, this never actually turned out to be the problem. But try to convince them of that.

Oh well, hopefully WOW stays in business...I would hate to be forced back to Comcast simply because I had no other options. (the way it is for many people).

WOW does have a lot of customers. Not as many as Comcast. Both sides loose lots of customers each day so it all kinda balances out.

Some time next week I'll be riding on Comcast pipes. :o

My WOW promo is over and they simply will not be able to match the services I will be getting with Comcast for the price I'll be getting, thanks to Clocker1000.

WOW is a great company and I wish them well, but they just can't stay competitive enough for people like me.

I'm not 100% sure about the value part. I have digital with WOW, a single HD DVR, a standard digital box, the 15/1 internet service, unlimited phone, and I have HBO, Starz and Encore and my monthly bill is and has been $181 for quite some time now.

And the only time WOW has lowered my price is when I noticed that after the faster internet speeds came out that all of their packages had reduced in price. I called them on it and they lowered my price.

I had 6/1 internet, Digital cable & 2 DVRS for about $90 on WOW.

There has been a few more PPV spent on CC and I am averaging ~ $130 with similar equipment. (HBO instead of Starz)
Closer to $100 without PPV.

Each are different, but for what I use, not that different.

hahaha... I've said before price/performance(value) will win me. It's come to the point that WOW can't stay close enough to the competition. The crappy DVR guide, horrible VOD selection(and a lot of it is pay and very little free), lack of HD channels and so on help make my decision. The awesome customer service I got from them just can't make up for their shortcomings.

Comcast sales rep showsup Gives me hd_dvr, 2 sd boxes, voip 16/2 internet for 99 per month for a year and then the 2nd yr at 107. Called WOW and the best they could do was 115 per giving me the same thing, good for only 1 yr. I have been with them since 1997, back when they were Americast and I hate to leave, but when your can't compete on price or services, good bye. As far as crappy cust. service and wait times, thats what speaker phone is for. GL guys,if WOW ever catches up, a lot of us would come back.

Both companys have thier good points. I miss the speed from CC for the same price im paying for wow. When they (comcast) came to do the "Transition to Digital" witch they claimed i must have to keep the service. They slapped an extra $250 on my bill for the install. After 2 months of back and forth BS'n with them i went with wow. I brought my box back to the office and thought i was done with them. About 3 weeks later a cable tech showed up at my house and cut all the wireing off the ouside of my house (witch i installed myself) and left my house cabeless and phoneless. The wow service was already up and running at that point. I'll never go back to comcast. Wow ISP ain't no better with a 5gig NewsGroup D/L limit, and Band throttleing. I have no other options though other than the open wireless connections i can hit from my nieghbors, college, and the library. If you use CCast and ever need tech support ask for level 3 tech support right off the bat, it should save you about 20 minutes and 20 times of explaining your problem too and dealing with inadequite
morons. Over the 7 years i had them they replaced my modem 4 times- no questions asked. If wow wont replace the modem i have now i am going with a haxoware modem from ebay. The wow arris modem no longer gives an address to my switch. I have checked the modems config file and routing is turned off, i don't know if it was allways like that or not. The switch works, i used it in this location about a month ago and was working yesterday i took it back from my sister's house

Good Luck with CC

The HD DVD is listed at 12.99 month
HBO and Showtime are listed at $15.00 month each
Digital Converters are $6.99 month

Add all that up, and it's $174.97 a month. Then of course, you have taxes, fees, etc on top of that which make up your total bill.

Thanks, Clocker1000 for posting this. I am switching after 4 years with WOW. It was an easy decision -- way more HD channels, much better video on demand, and $40 per month savings.

I'll miss WOW but they just can't compete on the video product.

You can either take the equipment back to them, which will cancel your services. They will then send a truck out to disconnect you at their leisure.

Or, you can call and they'll schedule a truck to come out and pickup the equipment and disconnect you at the same time.

Either way you gotta contact them somehow.

I do not really care about the voip, so when I figured they can't match speed, on-demand, HBO, etc. I mainly focused on what they can do for price. I was able to get a few bucks more off each month.

Maybe I will give WOW another year, but if they do not improve their services soon to make themselves more competitive, I think they will be losing more people in the future, including me.

He told me to watch out after my first bill from Comcast as they usually try and screw you over after the money back guarantee is over (I'm just telling you what I was told, lol)...Believe I will be watching as my rate is supposed to be locked in for 12 months.

Anyway they left the door open for me to return to wow with no strings attached, etc. I'd say they (wow) have been really classy about this whole deal...

There are deals that can be had when you get the right person.
There are just as many who report no deals when calling.

Last post for me on WOW. Being hooked up this week. When I called WOW retentions they couldn't even come close to this deal And when they saw that I had been with them 12, yes 12 years, they were stunned. Retentions rep said in his dealings, never saw some there that long. I go back to the Americast days before WOW ever thought of buying them.

Now here is the deal I got for those who im'd me about the deal. You can only get it from the door to door sales person.

1 hd dvr
3sd boxes
16/2 internet
unlimited phone
hd pack, HBO, starz encore etc

99 per month first year
107 per month 2nd yr
all in writing and nice and legal

Sorry to go from WOW, but they are a dying company geared toward the value customer. And they ain't doing that very well. I would have been switched before this, but WOW was playing games and refused to release my number. Twice.

So Joker, this board is all yours. Enjoy your substandard everything you are getting, and when you want to run with the big dogs, come on over, always room on the CCpipes for even some one like you.

Peace all

pparks1 @ 21st Nov 12:36AM:
Re: I'm bailing in a little over a week

I don't post all that much on this board, but I am still with WOW. The best part with everybody bailing is that there will be less load on the WOW network...so that cannot really hurt me.

My speeds have always been pretty much satisfactory with WOW and this is where they are right now.
Download Speed: 14314 kbps (1789.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1087 kbps (135.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Sure, I pay more and I get less services..but I was NEVER happy with Comcast customer service for the years that I had them. When I had problems, I hated dealing with them. And for me, this was twice a year like clockwork. Packet loss of 30-40% making Internet unusable. Always lasted 4-6 weeks and I had to call, and call and call. People had to come to the house 100 times and always had one excuse or another. On the 4th incident, I called WOW and switched services. About 2 days before WOW hooked me up, got a call from high up at Comcast saying..."yep, sure enough, it was a bad card in the headend.. Sorry for the inconvenience and we look forward to serving you in the future." They are a huge corporation and have huge corporation policies, politics and methodologies. I don't see how any of this has changed. I also have friends who work directly for Comcast...so I've heard some of the inside stories.

These are the reasons that I am on WOW. These are the reasons that I am willing to pay more. And I have many services and such set up using my @wowway.com email address and the hassle of switching all of those is worth some money each month as far as I am concerned.

I don't blame those who have left. That's their choice to make. But I also don't like to hear members just insulting each other back and forth. Let's just keep the personal insults to ourselves, ok???? I don't get upset and feel personally defeated when somebody posts a higher speed test, I don't have a need for powerboost like technologies, nor do I download anywhere near enough to get a letter about arbitrary limits.
Who cares if my internet speeds are substandard....and why do I have to "want to run with the big dogs". If the big dogs mean Comcast, I'll personally just politely pass and tend to other things.
