HD Only Package?
Any chance in hell of subscribing to an HD-Only digital package when the analog to digital transition is complete?
With both HD service & HSI running me 140+ per month, the first to go will be TV service, unless of course they can give me an HD-Only package.
When you have two TVs and both are HD, there is no point to subscribing to Analog channels.

Re: HD Only Package?
Many HD channels aren't offered to cable operators at a separate cost. The high-definition versions of many poplar channels are offered at an added fee on top of the SD channel. For example, to get ESPN-HD for the $0.75/mo or whatever it costs, you also have to pay the $2.50+/mo for ESPN.

Analog will be gone soon / very cut down any ways soon.
also hd is free on cable but they hit you with high box rent fees for the HD boxes.

As more or less implied by others, there is no HD-only service. Typically, other than HD-only networks, if you get the SD version, you get the HD version, assuming you have the correct equipment. Local broadcast HD if ClearQAM is still available, other HD with cable box ($$$), or CableCard (often free for one per device and a fee if 2 cards are needed in a device, but few devices support it).

You should call Comcast and try to negotiate for a less expensive monthly cost. The current $139 per month is for triple play with HBO. You can get the digital starter triple play without premium for $114. Both of these include HD. If they give you a hard time, tell them you will leave if they don't reduce the cost.

You mean kick and scream about how I will threaten to disconnect service unless I get a renewed promo price? You know, I did work for Wave Broadband (Kirkland,WA) and found this to be the most annoying aspect of the job as most of the people were not sincere. You could tell which customers were bullshitting by the fact that they had a long list of logged tech support calls.
I don't mind paying full price, I just want to pay for what I want and not pay for all the incredible crap that comes with the boatload of crap I also don't want, but end up getting because its "Enhances the service". I refuse to stoop to the level of brainless idiot, kicking and screaming to get them to give me what I want.
It looks like i'll just drop TV service down to Limited Basic as the soon to be addition of HD channels, doesn't interest me (10-20 new premium HD channels, yeah, uh-huh...). I don't do PPV and On Demand is often filled with crap that I never bother to check it every week or month. All I watch are sports channels and even with that, Comcast has butchered the digital surround sound to the point where that too is now worthless.
I do apologize for being a dick, but I was hoping there would be a slim chance at getting HD only service, that someone out there, where the digital conversion what completed, was getting this type of service.

Re: HD Only Package?
What TV package do you currently subscribe to?
Comcast does offer a Digital Economy package which is $39.99/mo. It doesn't include VoD, or ESPN, but it (at least in my area) it does include HD Channels (albeit just the local channels in HD).
Thank you for understanding how increasingly annoying it is when customers call in demanding x price or they'll cancel. I have seen one customer demand a certain price or they would switch to Direct TV - The rep transferred the customer to DirectTV LOL.
In any case, I would call them and see what they can do, before downgrading to limited or canceling the TV.

Actually in my area, it includes (& even says it on their literature) any HD versions of the SD counterpart that ARE included in that pkg - are you SURE it's not the same in your area???

If corporate was listening in that would = immediate termination.

I agree. In general, with Comcast, if you get the SD channel you get the corresponding HD channel as well.

Re: HD Only Package?
hey dont you get a 10$ discount for having TV & Internet? My promo price expired a few months back, just noticing it.
I do believe I can trim this down to about 90$ a month.
My sister is going to give me her cable modem, will drop Blast (15$ right there). The 39.95 digital starter must be a promo price as that is what I have and its 57.45$ per month (plus HD rental, plus sports pak). I get a bunch of HD channels I dont care to watch and the ones I do care to watch, are butchered by comcast. I can drop the HD Box in a month since local NCAA ends for me and the rest (NFL) are local, which my QAM tuner can pick up.
When I worked at Wave, you could easily get limited basic + HD Pak (about 22 HD Channels) for 40$ Im sure rate hikes or policy has changed since i last worked for them, but you could do that. Looking at the price card, Comcast offers Limited Basic for 12.95$ and Digital Starter for 57.45$ Im sorry, but its clearly not worth 57.45$ Or 60$ (in a few months) and 63$ a year later.
To go from 140$ to 65$ sounds much better to me.
Limited Basic + HSI = 56$ + Tax.
Man, I cant believe I spent that much money and still didnt get BBC America, NatGeo, Science Channel, Boomerang, etc.

Re: HD Only Package?
Cable rates for us have doubled in the last ten years.
As explained above, there are no economies to all-HD that Comcast could pass along. I see this as a service tier issue instead.
At least you could find 4 channels for that extra $16.95. I could find only 1 (Science). No thanks.

Re: HD Only Package?
Well it better stop being a tiered service, because theres alot of people who find 12$ UHF antennas & ATSC/QAM tuners to be a wonderful free alternative to paying 70$ for CableTV.
When I used to take calls for Wave, I used to reply to people getting sticker shock, "Well Entertainment isnt cheap", what a fool I was.
