[Connectivity] RCN Cable In Chicago - Packet Loss/Choppy Connect
Greetings all. First time posting here.
I'm on RCN "High Speed" Internet on the north side of Chicago. Since day 1 of having this service we have been experiencing a terribly choppy/intermittent connection lately that has become very annoying. In short, a web page will load for about 10 seconds and then stop loading before it finishes. If I'm lucky it will continue to finish loading in a minute or two, but for "high speed" internet this is a joke. Downloads are terrible. Streaming is impossible. I believe I am experiencing packet loss on my main line...I ran a test using the line quality tool which returned results with about 20% packet loss. We're in a three-flat apartment but we're on the first floor, so the cable hookup is right outside the window and doesn't have too far to travel. It is an older building but the tv picture quality is not too bad, so I'm trying to figure out if this is just the internet, my outside lines, a bad router, etc. My questions are:
1) Has anyone out there experienced this issue with RCN?
2) What can be done to improve this situation? Do I need to set up a technician visit?
Any tips/suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've been having it happen to me as well. It's really frustrating because I can't access my work email from home or do any of my freelance work.(webdesign)

I should have said this too.
I live in a 3 flat as well, first floor and this started happening about a week and a half ago. My downloading is fine, but will fluctuate at times from 1.0mb then go to 1kb.
I also noticed that my ping to a chicago server will go from 8 to 200.
I tried calling RCN, but they were no help, as usual.

Me too. The max I've hit this week is 6 (on my 10mb connection) and that was quite short lived.

I'm getting the exact same problems. Speed tests usually give me around 2000 Kbps (supposed to be a 3000 connection) download and ~600-700 upload. I ran some other tests and didn't see much packet loss.
It just took me 45 seconds to load UPS.com. Youtube will stream in the first 10-15 seconds and then just sit there and stall. I've had the service since last week and it feels like dial-up :(

I'm having this problem today. Intermittent loss of connectivity (online light goes off on the cable modem) and massive packet loss while connected. I'm on the North side of Chicago.
Some cable TV channels are cutting in and out too including FOX.
The world series is on tonight. Not having FOX is a big problem. Fix it.
