Ah, an oft-asked question.

"Which is the best?"

"And also the cheapest?"

Pick one ;) and then check out »/gbu . There are plenty of providers there with Canadian DIDs and voicemail.

If you're looking for a full service provider, take a look at »www.acrovoice.ca

Coming soon (2 or 3 months away, maybe?) is a do it yourself model which I've just ordered a pair of new servers for.

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

If it doesn't have to be a Canadian provider take a look at Inphonex and Callcentric. I believe both offer numbers in the areas you want, and both have voicemail. Inphonex has a great deal for US$20 a month on unlimited calling to the U.S. and Canada, plus more than 60 other countries. It includes a DID--your choice of locations in Canada or the U.S. I've been using his plan for a couple of weeks and am quite happy. I've also used Inponex in the past with no problems (except for Brazilian DIDs, which are a problem with that company).

I also have good results with Callcentric and the Canadian provider already mentioned, voip.ms.

Another possibility, if you want to mix and match providers, is to get a Voxalot account, and use their voicemail service. Works well, too.

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

I didnt see this before...InPhonex has a trade in plan for your old adapter
The choices are
Linksys PAP2T Phone Adaptor $64.95
Linksys 2102 Phone Adaptor with Router $64.95

I not sure which one is best but you have to get their unlimited plan to take that tradein plan.
That PAP2T I read somewhere that PAP2T-NA is the better model but that is not listed.
Hmmmm I wonder if they will take my Broadvox adapter.

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

I actually dont need a plan for outgoing calls so I am really just looking for an incoming DID number that includes voicemail and free incoming calls

Gizmo is about $3 a month

anything else?

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

VBuzzer is US$25.00 per year. Voicemail via e-mail. I have been using them for over a year without any major problems.

Localphone is US$3.00 per month with $5.00 setup fee. You also get a free UK number. Voicemail again via e-mail. I am mainly using them for calling out.

How many minutes of incoming calls we talking about?

I'm usually not a Voip.MS booster, but if you need inbound only, and your usage is moderate, they could be great value for you on a per-minute plan.

In the "Popeye" movie, Olive Oyl sang a song about Bluto being LARGE. That's his main attribute.

Well, in that same sense, Gizmo5 is CHEAP. Yes, indeedy. But don't come to us when your Gizmo5 service does a Monica (goes down) or goes OOB altogether. :D :p :o

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

If you're OK with using a softphone instead of ATA, freephoneline.ca has London DIDs for free.
Then if you like the service and want to use an ATA, you can pay the $50 fee to get the SIP credentials.

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

Why does your original question include the word BEST when it is quite obvious that your only criteria is CHEAP?

Enjoy.

The VBuzzer plans are split in two: $25 for "Buzz Out" (unlimited outbound to a certain area) and $25 for "Buzz In" (DID with unlimited inbound caling).
I believe Buzz In can be purchased without Buzz Out, but not the other way around

WELL in this case since it is for voicemail only then the best is really the cheapest

I really just need a number that will forward voicemail to email

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

How many incoming minutes do you expect per month?

And is $3 really too much to bear per month?

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

very few incoming minutes
under 500 mins
so since it is limited use why pay more if I dont have to?
many thanks to all for your help

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

For limited use you could get a Vancouver DID from Voip.ms for $1.99 and then pay per minute for incoming $0.0149/per minute. 100 minutes would take you over $3, but you get the idea.

I think thats going to be hard to beat for a Canadian DID.

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

Vbuzzer is about $2 a month and includes voicemail and free incoming mins

their outgoing rates are 1.5 cents a minute but I will probably not ever use outgoing

works fine so far

so I am good!

cheers

Re: Best and cheapest incoming Canadian with voicemail

I just got vBuzzer DID for my friend, and one for myself since they finally got Vancouver DID (been waiting for years, as we've been their customers since early days).

vBuzzer is above average in both reliability, performance, and customer service, but not completely flawless; however, still better than many "big" providers though. What makes them interesting is their diff. approach and some new features not commonly found from other providers.

I think they just ran out of 604 area code DID, but probably still have 778 area code DID left. It's rather strange that some days they show 604 on the list, and some days they don't. I am lucky to get one, but not my friend.
