[Need Info] Defrag analysis differences Auslogics & Vista
Just ran Vista Defrag, checked through the command line interface and it said drive was 0% fragmented, (what I expected) Ran an analysis with Auslogics Defrag and it said disk was 52% fragmented. Why the large difference? Which is right?

Re: [Need Info] Defrag analysis differences
Is Auslogics set to remove temp files prior?
if so..that may account for it :)
Edit: It may also have consolidated free space

Don't know about the free space but it is not set to remove temp files.

Remember an article some time ago(sorry no link)
"Vista [defragger] is actually less efficient than the one that was bundled with XP.....says Diskeeper who wrote the defrag (Lite version) for WinXP.

Re: [Need Info] Defrag analysis differences
I read a MaximumPC article about a year ago that said the Vista defragger worked better than most 3rd party defraggers.

LOL... I read it also and the better are the comments - not the article...

IMO diskeeper is pretty notable for overhyping the importance of defragging, and namely their continuously defragging tools. It's no wonder that they would say that some other product is not as effective as their own.

I think there may be an issue with the current version of Auslogics and some Vista computers beyond the difference in what the two defraggers displayed for you.
This version isn't playing nice with our Vista computer, though all past versions have. Immediately after the update, it displayed 44% fragmented. I know it was wrong. Perhaps the same thing (whatever that is) caused what you saw? No problem on my my XPHome.
Hope the next update makes it all better. You might want to try again at that point. Auslogics is faster and easier. :)

Just upgraded to the latest version. Auslogics and Windows Defrag both now say drive c is 0% fragmented..............which is what I expected. Must have been the swine flu.

Interesting. The latest version (in the thread w/ the post I linked to above) is the one that's having problems in my husband's computer which runs Vista. Go figure.

Thanks for mentioning that. Wonder when/where the new version was announced. Will look for it. Am having problems in Vista with version 3.0.2.40.
Edit: Found it and downloaded to this machine. Will check it out on the Vista computer tomorrow.
2nd edit: No improvement. It's still displaying the same 44% fragmentation.
