[RI] The Cox email gremlins strike AGAIN!

I only use 1 cox email account now because of all the problems I have had with them in the past.
Now, they are screwing with that account as well!
Since when has Cox been scanning our out going e-mail and deciding, according to thier rules, if it is spam or not?
Now I cannot even e-mail to my own work address as Cox blocks it and bounces it back to me as "possible spam".
And before you try to say it's my job bouncing it, I am the person who runs and maintains my work e-mail system.
Cox also so helpfully includes a link for "more information" which only leads to a download link for that crappy "security" suite they try to pawn off on us.
End of rant, now can anyone answer since when has Cox taken it upon themselves to scan our our going e-mail?

Re: [RI] The Cox email gremlins strike AGAIN!

I get mail blocked or dropped by the Cox SMTP server quite often, anything important gets sent with a BCC to another account so I can verify the server didn't dump it with no notice.

My usual fix is to paste in a block of text about having to add this text to get the fouled up Cox mail server to send my message. It gets the message to send, makes me feel better and is about all I can think of to do since the tech support fellow I called on this had no interest in me or my problem.

Hint to spammers, a tiny bit of text with good words leading off your spam will get it past Cox's outgoing spam blocker.

I know this is off topic a little but why dont you use Gmail instead? I can set it up as exchange pushmail and can send large attachments. What is so great about Cox mail that you prefer using it over anything else?

Re: [RI] The Cox email gremlins strike AGAIN!

I don't prefere it at all, but for some mail it's a necessary evil.
I have my own domains with my own mail servers that are far superior to anything Cox has, or gmail for that matter. I don't like and will never use gmail, as I dont like or trust google to handle anything confidential or sensetive. I despise Cox as a company, but they are the only game in town until they stop thier crap and allow fios in my area, but that's another story.

Suffice it to say that I am forced to use my primary cox address for some purposes. I am just sick and tired of thier cluless admins and techs screwing with it when they clearly have no clue what they are doing. Legitimate email gets blocked, massive amounts of spam gets through. That's poorly configured spam filters and poorly administratored servers.

If they are unable to supply the service they we pay for, how about crediting our accounts for the services we are unable to use due to thier inability to supply them properly?

I use Gmail for some things but it is much slower to send a big message or multiple small mesages using them than Cox. I prefer to use my own domain's server but Cox is blocking port 25 making that a less than optimal solution.

No SMTP Auth, SSL or other ports available? That seems like a poor provider if that is the case.

Their outgoing e-mail was never an issue until I moved to Cox, they are pretty upfront on the SMTP service so I wasn't surprised and I've been there for a lot of years with otherwise great support so I can't see moving over this.

I smell bull dung here. You don't trust Google but you trust Cox? You say they are the only ISP around, yet it looks like your from West Warwick. I have friends that live in West Warwick, on behalf of them....huh? You have your own email server yet you use cox's smtp on the standard port? And your email system is better then Googles. Riiiiiight. Don't get me wrong, I think cox's incoming spam filter is junk. However, their outgoing email filters really only get red flagged when there is a blatant breach of TOS.

I just don't buy the whole "Cox is bad but I have to use it story"

West Warwick, RI Working with CoxTech1, we found our IPs where listed.
I had to run a security audit and tracked down the rouge machine. So this confirmed in our case atleast, the problem is on our end and not Cox's.

Hmmm, now that I agree with. ;)
