Incoming calls problem
I've been using Vonage for a few months but this problem had just started recently. When an incoming call comes in, our phones ring once only and the call will get dropped or sometimes the caller gets a busy signal. Outgoing calls seem to be fine. I called Vonage, they asked me to connect the phone adapter directly to a phone instead of a phone jack like it was before. Ok sure it worked. But my other phones no longer get a dial tone since it's unplugged from the wall jack. Vonage didn't want to do anything else since they think problem is on my end. Does this sound like an inside wiring issue? I can't understand why since I can make outgoing calls fine. I think the only option now is to buy a cordless phone with multiple handsets. Or else I will have to switch back to my local phone company.

Yes. If it works fine with the phone connected directly to the ATA and the problem only occurs when the inside wiring is in between, the wiring is most likely the problem.

Which you should do. The current-standard DECT 6.0 phones are great. I could never go back to corded phones. And I was one of the last holdouts.

Did you first disconnect your home's internal phone wiring from the local phone company at the Network Interface Device (NID) before connecting your Vonage device to the home phone wiring?

i did. I can make outgoing calls, it's just incoming calls get dropped right away when the phone adapter is hooked up to the wall jack instead of a phone base.

You are doing old-style thinking. (And by the way, you DO use a phone company....)
Rather than pay money to somebody to fix your wires, get some DECT 6.0 cordless phones such as WAVZuser suggested. It will most likely cost you LESS money than hiring a repairman!

I lolled.
But seriously, I doubt that you and I have diametrically-opposed world views. I'm just wary of the less-expensive VoIP providers due to having been bitten in the butt by a couple of them (but none of the ones listed under your name.) When my contract with Vonage is over in 1/11, I might wade into the waters again if you and others are still happy with your lower-cost providers at that point.

Allow me to also suggest using DECT phones.
I just recently started using the GE Cell Fusion Cell Manager DECT 6.0 - Dual Handset model (which is expandable to six handsets). This model can connect to your Vonage line and up to two bluetooth equipped cell phones. We can now just park our cell phones near the Cell Fusion controller, and any of the DECT phones can make and receive calls on the Vonage line and both cell phone lines. The only problem I have noticed is that the bluetooth auto-connect does not work very well (at least with my phones), so I just set the controller for manual connect and when a cell phone is removed from the area and then returns, I have to manually re-enable the bluetooth connection.
