No More T-Mobile Myfavs
With the new pricing plans that T-Mobile rolled out a few days ago has shut the door on Myfavs. Did the use of Google Voice number as one of the Myfavs number, resulting in zero incoming/outgoing minutes being used, had anything to do with the decision to get rid of Myfavs?
If you currently have Myfavs you can continue using it, but no new signups!

Re: No More T-Mobile Myfavs
If I was service provider that profited on overage charges, I would eliminate external My Faves, Family & Friends, and the like as well. If you notice, one provider has advertised unlimited mobile to mobile on any wireless network, subsequently, they exclude any number that is not wireless to prevent VOIP directed calls. I would assume that unlimited incoming would be eliminated soon except on totally unlimited plans.

MetroPCS in my area offers unlimited for $30 at the moment. I'm not sure if they are a regional cellular company or if they offer service through out the US.

Not such a "moo" point when you consider that:
a) You can pay $40.00 for the same unlimited plan
b) Unprecedented call control features (call screening, call presentation, call blocking, etc.) one has with the Myfavs paired with GV
c) Voicemail to email & Voicemail transcription
d) giving out ONLY your GV number and not your real T-mobile number (Free texting from a number that most think is your mobile number).

It's $50/month if you bring your own phone. If you want to buy one from them at the discounted price then it's $60/month and a 2 year contract.

Re: No More T-Mobile Myfavs
It seems like T-Mobile is changing its direction a little bit. Their new plans, actually encourage their custoers to BYOD by charging them about $10 less per month.
T-Mobile has always had a lot of people that just had an unlocked GSM device. But now those people will actually have a cheaper monthly rate. They will now probably get more people that just bring their own device on their network.
While many people seemed to like the myfaves feature, I think T-Mobile is now just encouraging its customers to just get unlimited minutes to everyone instead of just 5 people.
Also, if you look at their SMS addon feature, they have taken away the 400 SMS option. Now it's either unlimited SMS or pay-per-SMS. Instead of casual users paying $4.99 for 400 SMS, they will have to pay $10 for unlimited SMS, or stop text messaging (but I do not think this will happen!).
It seems that these new plans will be a huge benifit for heavy users, but may cost casual users more money.

the BYOD discount are only on the more expensive heavy usage plans. where it would really be more attractive to consumers is if the cheapest plans were available with a $10/monthly discount and no commitment for BYOD users. they are offering discounts to people who are not all that cost sensitive and therefore the most likely to grab a free/cheap phone anyways and absorb the extra monthly cost.

That's not true. All plans are discounted $10 if you bring your own phone. BYOP plans:
$29.99 - 500 anytime minutes, unlimited nights/weekends
$39.99 - 1,000 anytimes minutes, unlimited nights/weekends
$49.99 - unlimited
All plans are $10 more if you buy a discounted T-Mobile phone.

Voice minutes have become a commodity. Take a look at the number of unlimited voice minute plans that have sprung up on MVNOs in the last year for $50 or less. The cheapest at the moment is probably the one from PagePlus and it includes unlimited texting. Since it includes both the Verizon and Alltel networks now, it really is a national plan. Growth and profit is now in data.

I have to agree with you. In my neck of the woods, MetroPCS has a very large chunk of the market and these $50.00 unlimited is probably an attempt to recapture those customers. Of course, MetroPCS is now offering $30.00/month unlimited(?) as a counter attack.
It is interesting that T-Mobile is forcing its customers with Blackberries and (Google) T-Mobile myTouch 3G to have their $30/month data plan.
