you have no cable, so there will be a charge...you may be able to get it waived....only the CAE you talk to can tell you.....1800-comcast

There is usually an installation fee for new installs, whether video, data, or voice. The first cable outlet is included with the installation, though.

In other words, your install fee covers the connection from the pole to your computer.

Sometimes you can get discounts on install fees or use self install methods to save money, but a customer service rep will have to set that up for you.

I had the HSI only installed in Jan 09, the ran the rg11 up to my house and a rg6 from the box to where my router was sitting in the Bsm't - Hooked up the cable modem and that was it.

No extra charge for wiring just for HSI- if they were going to do the whole house for comcast TV I would think that would run into some $$.

Not sure where you are (not near me since you're using Verizon DSL apparently) but my HSI installation was $100ish, despite the fact that all wiring was in place to my apartment. Then again, I hear the fee *might* be waived or lowered, and policies may vary between my region (Denver) and others.

What I would do in your place is

Buy some RG-6 cable (or if it was me some RG-11)
put the cable in place (ie run it through the attic, ect)
and then when the comcast person gets there have them put the ends on

What is this Overkill that you speak of

I just feel if you want a clean install (ie not cables stapled to the ceiling, ect then put the cable in place beforehand but let the pro put the ends on

then if your going to lay the cable then use the best cable (within some measure of reason)

but ya I do like over doing it because I don't like re-doing it
