U-Verse TV stuck on Orange AT&T U-Verse screen at startup

I was watching a DVR'd show and decided to start a different DVR'd show... After selecting the second show, the screen went black. I tried going back and starting the earlier show back over; however, it wouldn't work either. I rebooted the IPTV box and now it is stuck on an orange AT&T U-Verse TV screen and will not do anything really.

Actually, as I am sitting here, I saw something flash up briefly... I was not able to read all of it, but I saw the words "Due to recent changes..." (or so I think that is what I saw) in a grey bar at the top of a black screen. When I hit guide, I get a screen with the blue bar titled Guide and the time (as I usually would) only no guide below. Menu shows most of the normal options but no recorded video and when I try to access VOD or whatever through the menu.. nothing.

Any ideas? I am going to call support shortly if things don't change. I have a lot of unwatched stuff on my DVR and I would really like to not lose it. If I lose it, I am thinking I may just have to get rid of the TV service... :-/

I just looked under system resources and it says N/A for Disk Usage.

I am on the phone with Tech Support and I am being told that I will probably have to preform a factory reset which means I will lose all of the stuff I have recorded... I have a lot of stuff recorded! There are several shows I haven't watched yet. She is telling me that there was most likely an update for the box that did not complete properly.

Have many others had this issue?

The rep mentioned a disaster recovery and told me it was different than a factory reset... She is sending a tech out tomorrow and said that he would be able to do that. Does this sort of thing exist? If so, anyone know how to do it?

Any way to force a firmware update?

Sounds like you might have lost your hard drive. Maybe the software just refuses to recognize it, maybe the drive is bad, maybe a cable came loose.

Have you tried rebooting your RG? If not, unplug the DVR, reboot the RG and after it's synced up, boot the DVR.

Also, if you could, post a screenshot of your line stats for us to look at. You could be dealing with a signal issue.

I've lost my DVR. They pushed through enough of an update to get the live tv to work on the other tvs, but not on the DVR TV. They talked me into killing my dvr... now I get the RedX of death and they are going to send a Tech out in 3 days. Turns out my support neglected to mention that the system reboot could make things worse. How Happy is this customer.

I did try rebooting the RG and the DVR several times of course. No luck...

Same thing happened to me. Happened the first time yesterday afternoon... i turned on the tv and just had black screens... pressing the guide gave me a blue bar at the top with the time, but nothing else. I turned off the RG and the STB and turned them back on. Yesterday, that did the trick... however, this evening, the same thing happened. I've rebooted the RG and STB multiple times, but it keeps coming back up to the orange screen, and then the black screen with blue bar if I hit the Guide button...

i'm calling them now. so pissed... they better be able to fix it before monday night football!

I did consider that; however, corrected blocks aren't necessarily a bad thing are they? It is definitely something I will have them look into. Outside of this and a little digital artifact (which I have not seen recently), the service has been pretty great.

I really just don't like the idea of losing the data on my DVR, I think there was an update pushed out while I was out of town this weekend. I think something maybe became corrupt and things just got worse from there... I am behind in the shows I watch... I guess I can download them if I have to do the factory reset.

If you need to do a factory reset, it's pretty simple apparently. It seems that you just need press DOWN + OK + PWR then let go of the PWR button after about 6 seconds and wait for the "Gear Screen" to come up.

Alot of the prem techs have had good luck on saving the recordings on the DVR by hitting the menu button,options then restart. this works on the regular stb's aswell. For some reason the new updates did not take this past week on quite a few stbs, between that and vdsl2 being pushed out today on new orders, prem techs are keeping us pretty pretty busy lately since not all there jdsu's took the the update for vdsl2 correctly.

It seems that it was an issue in my local area..... I received a pre-recorded message telling me that my tech visit has been cancelled and everything should be working. It works!

Well that's good that it works now.

There was a recent update from UI version 4.4.4 to 4.4.5, so there could have been a problem with that where you are.

The update changed the blue "Welcome" screen to the orange screen. I don't think anything else really happened though.

Nah it's fine. "Corrected" errors were fixable. The faster corrected errors roll in, the greater the likelyhood that you'll have some uncorrected, and those are what cause issues. Even a handful of those is probably not a big deal.

Some people have posted extremely high amounts of corrected blocks and don't really have problems.

When I first got service I got corrected blocks at a very high rate. It tapered off after a while.

Now I have, after 13 days:

Corrected Blocks: 61279 449 0 0:45:47
Uncorrectable Blocks: 112 2 0 1:06:16

But this is without TV service. When I had TV service, there was a lot more data going through the pipe, so the numbers were higher.

I have all 3 services and Matt's been helping me pinpoint an issue of freezing during heavy rain. Lately no rain :(
